Chapter 5

Dario

Ilet him take our mate and find him in the rubble of Nico’s destroyed living room. The question is how, to which neither of them seems to want to answer. Theia looks perplexed while Enzo looks amused as he usually does.

“Abbie’s hormones got the best of her.” My brother shrugs and points at our mate.

“She’s a goddess and married. I say we kill the husband first before we bond her, but you say I’m impulsive so I’ll leave it up to you.” Enzo grins as Theia rolls her eyes.

“It was a millennia ago.” My vision turns red as my beast tries to take over at the thought of any other male outside of my brother touching our mate.

“Finally, emotion! I thought you weren’t capable anymore. So marry, fuck, kill?” He tries to confirm the order of how we handle the situation Fate has decided to gift us with.

Because no matter the circumstances, a fated mate is a gift, and I plan to cherish it.

“Goddess? Is he always like this?” Theia muses as she looks between us.

We answer at the same time as we did so often as pups.

“Yes — NO!”

Her eyes crinkle in amusement, and her eyes swirl with the colors of the rainbow before pointing at us individually.

“I see. Do you share one brain or just the body from neck down? Because it would explain a few things.” Enzo chuckles as he bravely moves closer to her.

“You figured out what we are?” Theia holds up a hand, stopping his movements.

“The smell of brimstone and pomegranates gave you away. Besides, Hades is my nephew, technically.” I cough on the breath I’d just taken.

“Right, you missed that bit. Let’s sit and catch you up.” Theia takes my hand and then gasps when sparks fly around us, catching the rug on fire.

“Perhaps we should do this on the veranda. Less, flammable.” Enzo opens the glass doors and ushers us outside as Theia runs down her family tree.

Enzo follows suit, and an hour or so later we’re sitting watching the sunset when Theia breaks out in laughter.

“You’re triplets? I should have known. You remind me of my little ones.” So she’s a mother, and my jealousy gets the better of me.

“Children? How many?” My voice is pure growl, which makes her shiver in delight, I think.

“Three, all grown now. It was a very long time ago.” She winks at me, and I feel my cheeks heat.

Am I blushing?

I mind link Enzo, who just snorts at me.

“Wait, how old are you?” he asks suddenly, and I wish I had something to throw at his head.

“A lady never tells —— Ancient.” Theia and I say at the same time, me trying to correct his manners, her matter-of-factly.

“Was he the childhood chew toy?” she asks in a voice full of laughter, making Enzo roll his eyes.

There aren’t many dog jokes we haven’t heard.

“No, but he is the middle child.” She nods at my response and switches her gaze to my brother.

I miss the warmth of her light instantly, and my heart lurches. It’s been hours since we found her, and I know right now that I could not live a single fucking moment without her in it.

Fuck. We’re in trouble.

You think?

Enzo’s sarcastic tone floats away as Theia starts to speak again, and I see why she chose to teach children. She commands the room with her voice.

“Ah, yes. My daughter is a dark one as well. The temper on her. She fucks up the planet at the slightest inconvenience.” My eyebrow raises at that.

“Who the hell is your daughter?” Enzo leans in, letting his hand land on her knee.

Theia sighs and closes her eyes at the feeling, and I want to bite the thing right off him.

Soon brother. She’ll be ours, and no one will take her from us.

“The Moon. Her brothers are my pride and joy. Sun and Dawn are always so cheerful, colorful, and mostly bright. They have their moments when playing with their cousins.” She keeps leaving us speechless with the family name drops.

“Those elements are so volatile.” She giggles, lost in thought and Enzo’s touch.

“So, about this husband…” Enzo starts, and I lean in, taking her hand.

The sparks jump, and our hearts sync. It’s like closing an open circuit that has been desperately searching the universe for completion. How did we ever live without her touch?

“Who?” Theia asks as our bodies tremble, causing Enzo to grin.

“Exactly. He no longer matters. He’s been locked away by Zeus for how long?

I’m sure whatever power you answer to has considered you single for eons.

” The way my brother causally dismisses things set by literal Gods would worry me more, but right now, with the newfound warmth of the bond surging through my body, I’d burn the universe to ash and happily dance on the corpses of anyone who dared to even think of taking Theia away from us.

My eyes look around Nico’s home, finally understanding what I always considered madness.

We owe Nico an apology.

I make sure that the mindlink only reaches Enzo, who nods once in acknowledgment.

“Shit, we need to fix this before your brother returns.” Theia stands, walking back into the house as we follow and we survey the damage.

Her eyes swirl as her palms start to glow.

Every hair on my body charges with static as she slowly lifts her arms, and all the rubble starts to float up.

Before our eyes, she remakes the wall that is split open, and as she flicks her wrist, the light dims as the wall finishes mending and the décor items return to their original positions as if by memory.

“Wow,” Enzo says, making me smirk.

“Yeah, it’s a popular party trick. You should see what else these hands can do.” She looks over her shoulder at us with a playful wink, and my cock swells, causing me to swallow hard.

The mating heat starts to burn in my chest, and I hear Enzo’s growl confirming he feels it too.

“Easy boys. Remember we’ve got the girls.” Theia backs away slowly as we advance.

“Don’t run, little mate. We will not be held responsible for what happens.” Enzo issues the warning as I mind-link Nico.

Must claim, mate.

A stream of cursing in both English and Italian fills my head as we corner Theia, followed by Nico’s quick response.

On our way.
