Chapter 9

With the ground beneath my sparkly pink tennis shoes shaking and shimmying with such fury that I was sure my well-rounded butt was going to hit the floor, I was happy for Kai’s arm that came around my waist. After all, I was Martha Mary Margaret Dellencourt, dammit, and…

Well, that didn’t really mean much, but I needed ot remind myself who I was.

Sadly, the blasted chamber, or maybe it was ‘the one from below’, was not having it. It shook, shimmied, quaked, shuddered, and agitated with a ferocity that left no doubt…

It, she, they, or them… Whoever was pissed.

Huge cracks splintered the stone of the walls. Dust clouds filled the air. The crypt shifted, and the journal slammed shut with a resounding THUD!

“Everybody move!” Theresa ordered in her police voice that left no room for argument.

“Kai is not walking out of here,” Maeve objected. “He’s too…”

“Watch me,” my man interrupted with his chest out, his shoulders back, and his spine straight. He was in stubborn Fairy mode, and I didn’t know how to break it to my sister, but he wasn’t going back down. And just to confirm what I already knew, he growled through gritted teeth, “Watch me.”

Taking his arm from around my shoulders and taking a step forward, I saw the immediate regret on his face. He’d done too much. He was exhausted and in pain and couldn’t use Magic to heal.

Knees buckling, my Mate was about to go down. Putting both arms around his waist, I directed, “Lean on me, Tough Guy.”

As he lifted his head and mouthed thank you, I smiled and teased, Look at that, my badacious booty just saved your life, my big, strong Warrior Fairy."

“Never tell anyone.”

“Oh, Sweetie...” I winked. “I'm putting it on mugs, T-shirts, and bumper stickers.”

After five minutes of Maeve trying to get Kai to say she was right and he wasn’t ready to walk out of the chamber and the Hoopingarner House of his own volition, I gave Zelda ‘the nod’.

In the blink of an eye, she put her thumb and forefinger between her lips and let her signature ear-splitting whistle rip.

The second I saw that both my sister and my Mate had been shocked into silence, I whooped, “Head ‘em up and move ‘em out.”

With Mona in the lead because she knew the way better than any of us, Arthur was right behind. Then came Otis with Chewy padding just under him.

Theresa insisted she was next and was also adamant that she keep her gun drawn and the safety off. Giving her a mock salute, I teased, “As you wish, Officer.”

Maeve was still fussing over Kai until Zelda said, “Either move it, or I turn you into a kitten, and I carry you.”

Looking as if she were wishing for her own fireballs to throw at my bestie, my little sister begrudgingly closed her doc bag and got in line.

Kai continued to lean on me, which I liked… a lot, and Zelda brought up the rear with her Magic at the ready.

“I feel something,” she mentally said.

“Do you know what it is?” I asked, not wanting to alert anyone else.

“No, but I’m walking backward. If the sucker makes a move, I’ll get it.”

“Is it bad?”

“Doesn’t feel like it?”

“Is it a friend?”

“Nope, not that either.”

“So…?”

“It just feels like it’s aware of us and it’s watching to see what we do next.”

Getting to the stone steps we’d traveled down, I chuckled, “Okay, Zel, you better turn around. We’re at the steps.”

“Already done, Goofball.”

Walking behind Martha and Kai, I couldn’t help but keep turning around. The feeling that we were still being watched and maybe even followed was overwhelming. I couldn’t shake it no matter how hard I tried.

I even told myself, “Zelda, get the hell over it. You’re the next Witch in line to be Baba Yaga. You can’t be scared of a Boogie Man you can’t see.”

But it didn’t work. I was still nervous and wanted out of the chamber as soon as possible.

Four steps from the top, I swore I heard something… a voice. It was soft, little more than a whisper. Definitely female, it felt ancient and had an unmistakable Celtic accent.

“Margaret...” It breathed in my ear.

I froze. I turned around. There was nothing.

Shaking my head, I faced front and told myself, “You will tell no one. Now, get the hell outta here, and go hug your hubby and kids.”

Finally outside, I filled my lungs with fresh, Dragoon Bootay air and thanked the Goddess we were all safe. Relief swirled around us as we hugged one another and genuinely smiled for the first time since Theresa had run into the coffee shop with the news that Barney had escaped.

As if reassured, Hoopingarner House stopped shaking. Completely. Totally. Not even a tremor.

If I hadn’t known better, I would have thought it was happy to see us go. But that couldn’t have been right, right?

Still clutching the journal, I pushed all thoughts of ‘living’ houses to the back of my mind and looked up at Kai. Unable to shake the feeling that the house was still looking at us, I looked over my shoulder for a few long seconds.

Gaze falling to the journal, I made a decision, and instead of overthinking it, I told Kai, “I'm postponing the wedding.”

All eyes were immediately on me. They looked like I’d just said that I was canceling Halloween.

Then Kai yelped, “What? You can’t be…”

It almost immediately dawned on me that he was misunderstanding, and I quickly added, “Not canceling… postponing. There’s a difference.”

“You just discovered that you're an immortal, Magical cork holding back the apocalypse,” Maeve recounted and gave me a single nod. “I support that decision.”

“Same,” Theresa agreed with a thumbs-up.

Arthur asked, “Can we please still wear bow ties?”

“Absolutely.”

“Can we still have tacos?” Chewy pretty much begged.

To which I cheered, “Double tacos.”

“BEST DAY EVER!” My little guy happily woofed, dancing on his hind legs and batting his cute little brown eyes.

Back at the house, I got the dogs bathed, including Mona, and found a big, fluffy blanket just like the boys had for her. Leaving them in their room to chill, I headed to the master bedroom to see how Kai was doing.

Opening the door, I was greeted with candlelight, red roses, and a naked Mate that set my heart and body on fire. Closing the distance between us, he took my hands in his and started moving backward.

Following him into our room, I swooned when he asked, “Will you let me love you like you are the sun in my sky, the air that I breathe, and the beat of my heart?”

Not waiting for my answer, Kai sucked my finger into his mouth, closed his eyes, and sighed as he ran his tongue up and down my trembling digit.

Pulling my finger from his mouth, I realized we had been moving the whole time. As he sat on the edge of the bed, I sat on his lap, let my legs fall on either side of his muscular thighs, and slammed my lips to his. Roaring, “Yes! Yes! YES!!” Directly into his mind.

Faster than I could track or even try to, Kai had me naked and on the bed. Climbing up my body, I could only gawk at his muscular body. I mean, I knew my man was built. I’d seen it before, but every time I looked at him, I couldn’t help but acknowledge that my man had it going on and then some.

As his erection touched the top of my thigh, all thoughts of anything but having my man between my thighs fled my brain. Heck, I would’ve given up chocolate, blueberry cake donuts, and BBQ potato chips if only he would stop teasing me and start loving me.

My hands couldn’t, no, wouldn’t stay still.

I touched his chest and ran the back of my hand across his nipples, grinning as he shivered and growled my name low in his throat.

My hand slid between our bodies, wrapping around his erection at the same time he dipped his head and sucked as much of my breast into his mouth as would fit.

Sucking my hardened nipple between his lips, Kai licked and teased as my fist worked his cock up and down until he pulled away, gasping.

Staring up at him, I panted as if I’d run a mile, or what I imagined running a mile would feel like, because I had never run anywhere.

“I need to be inside you. I need you,” he growled, kissing my jaw, nipping at my neck, and lavishing my shoulder with his lips and tongue.

“Yes…oh my Goddess, yes,” I gasped, letting go of his erection and digging my nails into his shoulders as he balanced on the hand that was by my head and slid the other slowly up the inside of my thigh.

Teasing my already wet curls, Kai’s forehead touched mine as he slipped first one and then another finger inside me and sighed, “Great Goddess, you are so wet, so ready, so needy for me. I have to make love to you or die trying.”

Working his digits in and out of my slick pussy, my Fairy King looked deep into my eyes, and as his thumb began to taunt my swollen, throbbing clit, he purred, “Come for me, Martha. Scream my name. Wet my hand. Come, my love, let me feel how much you want me.”

As the last word crossed his lips, Kai squeezed my clit between his thumb and forefinger, and I experienced the best, biggest orgasm in the history of orgasms. Kissing my lips with all the passion and fire I could feel boiling between us, he slowly pulled his fingers from my still quaking body and, with a sensual roll of his hips, slid just the tip of his erection inside me.

Rolling his hips in an amazingly erotic rhythm, Kai raised his head and captured me with his smoldering blue gaze. Slowly, inch by glorious inch, he pushed into my body, filling me so completely that I had no idea where he ended, and I began... and I loved every single earth-shattering bit of it.

Wrapping my legs around his waist, taking just a little bit more of my stunning Mate into my body, I gasped as the blue of his eyes began to swirl, and in the most sincere, heartfelt tone, he murmured, “I love you, Martha Mary Margaret Dellencourt, more than I ever knew it was possible to love another person. I love you more than all the stars in the Heavens and more than I will ever find a way to say properly. But I promise to try every day, in every way, to make sure that you never doubt how much I adore you.”

Pulling out of me until I thought we would be separated, Kai held still for a split second before driving back into my body, creating a rhythm that immediately became frantic and more wonderful with each powerful thrust. All rational thought became impossible.

My nails dug into his shoulders. I yelled in languages that I wasn’t sure existed and let go of everything as I loved my man like there was no tomorrow.

My hips thrust against his. My fingers dove into his hair, fisting the gorgeously red locks and pulling him tighter to my heated flesh.

Opening my mouth, I tried to beg, I tried to plead, hell, I would’ve been happy to form real words, but my brain was in its happy place and refusing to help me say anything but Kai’s name.

Leaning back, my hunky Fairy Man looked at me with his beautifully hooded eyes and asked, “What is it, my beautiful Dragon Queen? What do you want?”

I could see the glint in his eye and knew he knew that he wanted to hear me say it. Needed, for some reason, to hear the words. Slowing his thrusts, he purred, “Say it, my love, tell me what you want.”

“Love me, Kai. Love me like there’s no tomorrow.” My hips refused to be still as my body begged for what only Kai could give me. “I l-love you, Kai. I love you so much. Oh my Goddess, I love you so much.”

Smiling with untold male pride, my hunky Mate resumed the amazing rhythm that made my body hum at the same time that he kissed down my neck, licked my pounding pulse, and said, “I love you, Martha. Forever and always, I love you with all that I am.”

A fiery thrill of love and passion tore through my body. Screaming my release as Kai emptied his seed into my body, I was as close to Heaven as I had ever been, and floating back to Earth, I made plans to surprise him just the way he had surprised me.

Hours later, and after a few more times of making love to my Mate, we were cuddled up together when the sounds of nails pawing at the door let us know Chewy had come calling. Begrudgingly getting out of bed, I threw on one of Kai’s T-shirts, went to the door, and opened it.

Sure enough, there was my little guy, sitting like the proper gentleman he tried to be when he wanted something.

Up on all four paws, he turned to the side and reminded, “You said we could have tacos. Have you ordered the tacos? Are you gonna make them? So we have sharp cheddar and Monterey Jack cheese? You know I like both. Can we just…?”

Looking over my shoulder, I winked at Kai. “Looks like we have to get tacos.”

“Good!” He cheered. “I’m gonna need my strength for your next surprise.”

“Damn, son!” I laughed out loud. “It’s a good thing your Magic started working the minute we left the Hoopingarner House, and you’re all healed.”

“Oh, baby, you know it. I am at one hundred percent…” HE waggled his eyebrows. “Just wait until I have some food. I’ll show you things we've yet to explore.”

“Please hush it up,” Chewy grumbled. “You’re killing my appetite. Save the lovey-dovey BS until the children have gone to bed.”
