I appreciated the awe in her voice because despite this place being Sampson’s brain child it was something we were all proud of.

I’d told Charmy to get dressed and that I was taking her out.

My mama was grinning from ear to ear which told me she liked Charisma as much as she had the first time they met.

That meant a lot to me ‘cause I didn’t want to be the sibling with the partner nobody could stand.

As much as Reecie tried to deny it, she was locked in tight with Runt despite her ass not wanting to put a title on it.

I understood the hesitation and that bitch nigga who made her that way was going to get his, but even still, Runt was family.

I’d done the gentlemanly thing and gotten her a bouquet of roses but that wasn’t enough for my mama.

She’d cut flowers from her own garden to add to the roses to make them pop, since she said that Charisma was too colorful to only deserve one type of bloom.

I didn’t disagree with her but they were the best I could pull off last minute.

I promised her I would start a weekly delivery of flowers for Charisma to the ranch and only then could I pick Charisma up for our date.

I’d dressed in all black from my hat to my boots and put my hair in a braid to denote the formality of the occasion.

Some people thought it was weird that I kept my hair long but the shit grew so why the fuck wouldn’t I?

It wasn’t weird to see a Black man with locs down to his ass but somehow my shit made folks stop and stare.

When Charisma opened the door she had me wanting to order delivery and stay in.

Her naturally athletic shape had been poured into a sundress that was a bunch of bright colors that on anyone else wouldn’t have worked.

Instead of the usual purple tips, her hair was now streaked with gold that brought out the warmth in her skin.

She would use this hair dye gel stuff to change the color depending on her mood and I love guessing what color she would do next.

I was doing my best to get used to people staring at Charisma but it was hard.

She was magnetic. Not simply because she was attractive or that her clothing and hair choices were extraordinary.

Charmy’s aura had people stopping to stare at her like they could sense she was a fairy in a past lifetime and they were in awe at seeing her in person.

During the open house, I’d battled cussin’ out multiple people I’d known my whole life over her.

They assumed since she was with me that our thing was temporary and tried to ask about her.

It was my fault because the company I used to keep wouldn’t have minded people assuming they would be cool with something casual.

But the idea of them thinking Charisma was on that made me murderous.

Hell, Riot’s ass was too fucking friendly with her and I had thought about laming my own horse so he would calm his ass down.

Something was really the fuck wrong with me.

“We love this place almost as much as the ranch.”

“Food that good?”

“Yes, but that ain’t the only reason. Business is good and this place is like a living museum to what our family has accomplished through the years.

It’s a love letter from the current Chisholm-Loves to the previous generations and a way for us to gain new customers across the board.

You keep this up and you’ll have a spot on these walls too. ”

Sampson had already had his solo photo as proprietor taken down and replaced it with one of him and Yzzy’s wedding pictures.

Since he was a prominent bachelor in the state and Yzzy was considered somewhat famous because of her sister and their family, people clamored to get a glimpse of their day.

I could already imagine a piece Charmy was working on gracing the wall here.

I gotta talk to Samp about displaying some of her work here.

Eventually, I’d want a portrait of us to go up right along with the rest of the family.

Setting up the studio in a portion of the house was small compared to all the ways I wanted to help Charmy get her name out there.

The people who attended Rodeos were wealthy as hell and they were always looking for the hottest new thing to spend their disposable income on.

Her art being displayed in the restaurant with patrons of the caliber we had meant she wouldn’t be able to keep anything in stock once folks caught on.

It was what she deserved because she was talented as hell.

“I think that’s the most beautiful sentiment I’ve ever heard about a family business.

So often when people come from wealth they attempt to downplay it as though they have something to prove.

I love the way you all embrace your past and celebrate it by continuing on the legacy.

Y’all are not at all what I expected rich people to be like. ”

I didn’t need to ask because I was sure that fake ex of hers was who she was alluding to.

That man’s entire trust fund probably wouldn’t touch what I kept in petty cash but I’m sure he looked down on Charisma.

I knew she realized we had money especially given the houses and the land but Charmy probably never actively thought about it.

I was just Nate who paid her well and now was treating her right and fucked her good. That’s just the type of woman she was.

“Charisma, we rode here in an AMG GLE.” I’d pulled out my SUV because Charmy had rarely been in a vehicle with me.

She’d either been in my truck or with me on horseback or in the rowboat.

The fact that I wasn’t even driving my girl around had me thinking of what else I’d done wrong while courting this woman but she never complained.

And despite that, I still wanted to give her the most typical but unique experiences that I could because she was worth it.

“Nate, I don’t know what that is.” Her face said she knew she should be impressed but her eyes gave away that she was truly clueless what any of what I said meant.

She sipped her wine as we waited on our appetizers to come through the door.

Since it was her first time here, Charmy had no issue with me ordering for her but she insisted on picking the bottle of wine for the table.

“You’re so damn adorable.”

“Unless I’m being the freaky fairy, right?” Her brow rose and her smile turned devilish. She could keep playing around with me if she wanted to. Charmy must’ve forgotten in the ten hours it had been since I last filled up her pussy how I got down.

“Charmy, I will put you on that damn wall right now you keep on.” It was a warning I was more than willing to back up. One text to Marcus our server and he’d delay our meal for a good forty-five minutes. That might give me enough time to remind Charmy who the fuck I was.

“You did not bring me all the way out here from the Valley to not feed me. But when we get back home, I definitely need you to back up all these promises and make me scream.”

“Charisma!” I had to adjust my dick under the table as the memory of the symphony of her moans and the sound of her wet pussy rushed through my mind.

“Sorry. I had to say what was on my mind. You know how my intrusive thoughts get. If I didn’t speak it they would only get louder.

You don’t want that.” She tapped her temple but didn’t look the least bit apologetic.

“But tell me about growing up in the valley. It seems so idyllic and I might know a little but I want to know more. This is like our first real date so I need the whole Nate Chisholm-Love backstory.” She waved her hands toward her face almost begging me to talk about my life in the Valley.

So I did. Because whatever Charisma wanted she would get from me.

“You’ve seen how things are at the ranch. It’s always been calm and slower paced than in the city. I worked as a ranch hand on this very land. I worked under Samp and if you think he gave me any special treatment because we were related, you’d be wrong.”

“He looks like a very serious taskmaster.” I knew she was speaking about his personality compared to mine because we were opposite in a lot of ways.

“The fucking worst. Then I would have to hear his ass talk about how this was our shit anyway so we had to be the ones working the hardest. Meanwhile, I was pissed cause the other hands were getting paid way more than we were. I wanted to get the family’s money’s worth.”

She grimaced slightly before crinkling up her nose. “I can see both sides.”

“So can I as an adult. But his ol’ forever old ass—”

“Wait a second did you just call him forever old?” She cracked up laughing Marcus walked in with the tray, bringing our appetizers. He set them down on the table and once we helped ourselves I went back to the story.

“Yeah. I don’t think that nigga knew how to smile until he met Yz. He’s been a third parent my whole life. Mind you, he ain’t even a decade older than me.”

“Y’all are really funny. I love the way y’all are with one another. He’s the nicest man and I understand why you look up to him.”

I was happy that my admiration for my family was something she liked because it was never going to change.

“We’re something. Reecie and I are closer but I’ve always felt like her protector.

Despite being older, Sampson never made me feel like a little kid.

Middle kids are supposed to be the crazy ones, but I felt like I had the best of both worlds. ”

“Being the youngest means folks don’t take me seriously. But you all don’t treat Reece that way. It’s refreshing to see.”
