Charisma #4
I slow blinked at Sampson watching his brother intently to check his fucking form instead of making sure that he didn’t murder somebody in this guest house. Which spoke volumes to this not being their first rodeo.
“Y’all are the most wholesome band of merry degenerates I’ve ever seen.”
“Thank you. Never take your eyes off your opponent, Nathaniel!”
I looked at Sampson wondering what in the hell he was doing coaching Nate from the sidelines.
Trent was back on his feet and had tackled Nate when he had stopped hitting him.
As though he could hear his brother over the noise of the fight, Nate nodded his head and twisted his body so he could pound Trent along his spine until he finally relented and got off him.
“Fighting dirty like a bitch ‘cause he knows Nate about to break his damn face.”
I winced at the sound of Nate’s fist hitting flesh. “Could you not sound so proud?”
“Why? I am.” He looked down at me like I was the one moving strange and I didn’t understand how a man that was the definition of calm was now advocating for a guest on his property to get beaten up.
Nate kneed him in the face causing Trent’s head to arch back as blood sprayed from his nose.
“Oh yeah, that shit is good and broken.” Sampson’s deadpan play-by-play should not have been as funny as it was.
I held in my laugh but it ended up sounding like I was choking, which made him glance over at me. “Sampson please. You not supposed to be encouraging this.”
Sampson narrowed his eyes jovially making him look so much more like Nate as he did. “Why the fuck not? Who do you think taught his ass how to fight?”
“Cap! This is all natural talent, Samp.”
I just stared between the two of them stunned that Nate had taken an intermission from beating Trent’s face like a fucking drum to talk shit to his brother. Nate didn’t miss a beat and hooked Trent in the jaw.
“I don’t want him to sue y’all or—”
“After he put his hands on you and showed up here unaccounted? He can try that shit in Mississippi or wherever the hell y’all are from but it won’t fly in the Valley.” Now Sampson was teasing me like he didn’t know where I was from to keep me calm.
“I’m just saying—”
“Got dammit I knew his ass would do too much.”
I looked over and Nate had his hands around Trent’s neck and he was choking him with a calm I’d never seen before.
“Nate—”
Sampson held up a hand to keep me still. “Stay by the door!”
“Sampson, don’t yell at my lady like that. I’m already in a mood.”
Nate kept squeezing as Trent’s face changed colors. He spoke so calmly while he was draining the life out of this man; I should’ve been scared. But I knew he was only giving Trent what he felt he deserved.
“Nate, get your damn hands off his neck. We don’t have a hole dug!” Sampson was finally talking sense into Nate but it wasn’t anything like what I expected.
I glanced between the two of them as they argued back and forth shocked at the casual way they were having this conversation as though they were discussing the herd.
“Nate, I can’t do prison time, baby.”
Nate looked at me and grinned while he was still choking the shit out of Trent. It wasn’t like the movies. It took a long time for someone to die via asphyxiation. I still felt as though we were close to that limit. “You wouldn’t go to jail, Charmy, and if they never find him—”
I waved my arms in front of my face not wanting him to tell me anything else. “My parents would get drawn into this. They don’t deserve that. They adore you so let’s not give them a reason to say no when you ask my daddy to marry me.”
Nate released one hand from around Trent’s neck before he cut the water on in the sink and shoved Trent’s head underneath the spray.
Sampson pulled Trent back and stood him up before he could choke on the water and dropped him to the ground.
Nate spit in Trent’s face before he strode toward me and bent down so we were eye level.
Besides a slightly rumpled shirt and a damp hand, Nate wasn’t even out of breath.
I was yet again turned on at how mannish he looked when he was stompin’ Trent’s ass out.
“And how do you know I ain’t already got his blessing, Charmy? You think I’m half-stepping and ain’t already made plans? That was cute to get my focus back on you. Good looking out.”
He pecked my lips with a grin and I felt like I was in the Upside Down.
This had to be what it felt like to do acid or something.
Everyone was so unnaturally calm while I felt as though we should be panicking.
For what I didn’t know but these two were unbothered at the man gasping for air on the Spanish tile kitchen floor.
“You’re insane.”
“And you made me this way. Besides, you knew this already and I know you like it. Little pussy probably wet right now watching me put in work.”
He was right and he knew it by the way he licked his lips. I always felt like Nate was supernaturally attuned to me and this only confirmed it again.
The sound of one of the golf carts infiltrated our bubble and I heard it over Trent’s groaning from the ground.
Sampson moved quickly to the door, and when he looked out, he let out a chuckle.
“Bucky! You in trouble now.”
