CHAPTER 43

TAYLOR

“I, Victor Creed the second, do solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the office of President of the United States. And will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States."

“So, help you God?” asked the Chief Justice of United States.

“So, help me God,” Victor vowed with his hand on the Bible.

“Congratulations, Mr. President.”

Taylor's applause was drowned out by the clapping of a jovial, enthusiastic crowd. For the first time since her father had died, her smile was genuine. She was extremely proud. Victor had worked so hard just to put himself in a position where he could help others. With a pure heart and good intentions, surely, he was going to leave the United States in a better place from whence he’d started.

Victor shook the hand of the chief justice then turned to Taylor with a smile that warmed her heart.

“Congratulations, my love,” she told him.

Victor cupped her jaw and kissed her lips and then the top of Vicky’s covered head. “Thank you, sweetheart. Thank you for everything.”

“I love you,” Taylor mouthed.

“I love you.”

After greeting a few supporters, Taylor took her seat and listened to her husband deliver an inaugural speech that promoted hope over fear, unity over division and hate, and the reiteration of the simplest of solutions… common decency.

Taylor shifted Vicky on her lap and kissed her forehead. “You see Daddy?”

“Daddy!” Vicky cheered, adding her own applause to the mix.
