Chapter 5 — The Sensual Awakening
Julia found Sienna alone on the adults-only sun deck the next afternoon, tucked into a shaded daybed with a book she wasn’t reading any more than Julia ever read hers, and took the empty half of the same daybed without waiting for an invitation.
“You look like a woman who didn’t sleep well,” Julia said, settling in close enough that their shoulders nearly touched.
“Chloe came back to the room at two in the morning looking like she’d been hit by a truck. A very satisfied truck.” Sienna set the book down, cheeks already coloring. “She wouldn’t stop talking about it. I got maybe three hours.”
“And how did that make you feel? Hearing all the details.”
“I don’t know. Weird.” Sienna picked at the edge of her towel, not meeting Julia’s eyes. “Happy for her, I guess. Also — I don’t know. Something else I can’t really name.”
“I can name it, if you’d like me to.” Julia’s voice had dropped, private, the warm scattered brightness of the pool deck gone entirely, replaced by something focused and slow in a way that made the hair on Sienna’s arms rise despite the heat.
“You’ve been wanting something to happen to you too.
Not the same thing that happened to Chloe.
Something quieter. You just haven’t let yourself finish that thought. ”
Sienna’s breath caught, and she looked up finally, meeting Julia’s eyes with something caught between fear and open want. “I don’t — I’m not usually—”
“I’m not asking you to be usual.” Julia reached out and took her hand, thumb tracing slow over her knuckles. “I booked a private cabana for this afternoon. Just me. I’d like you to come with me instead.”
“What about Chloe?”
“Chloe’s currently getting a couples massage with your other new friend, the finance guy from Denver.
She’ll be occupied for hours.” Julia’s mouth curved, slow and knowing.
“This isn’t about her. This is about you finally admitting what you’ve wanted since you shook my hand on the pool deck two days ago. ”
Sienna didn’t answer with words. She let Julia pull her up off the daybed, and followed her down a quiet corridor to a private cabana tucked at the ship’s stern, curtained off from the rest of the deck, nothing but ocean and sky visible through the gauze.
Julia drew the curtain shut behind them and turned to find Sienna standing in the middle of the small space, arms crossed loose over her middle, looking suddenly much younger than twenty-two.
“You can still say no,” Julia said, gentle, closing the distance slow. “I mean that. Nothing happens here that you don’t want.”
“I want it.” Sienna’s voice came out barely above a whisper. “I’ve wanted it since the pool deck. I just don’t — I’ve never done this. With a woman. I don’t know what I’m supposed to do.”
“You’re not supposed to do anything.” Julia reached up and untied the strap of Sienna’s swimsuit at the back of her neck, slow, giving her every chance to stop it. “You’re supposed to let somebody else do the work for once. Can you do that for me?”
Sienna’s only answer was a small, shaky nod, and Julia finished untying her with slow, careful hands, easing the fabric down inch by inch, pressing a kiss to each new stretch of bared skin as it appeared — the curve of her shoulder, the soft swell of her breast, the faint tan line at her hip where the sun hadn’t quite reached.
“You’re so pretty it’s genuinely distracting,” Julia murmured, guiding her back onto the wide daybed at the cabana’s center. “I’ve been thinking about doing this since before I even had a plan for it.”
“You have a lot of plans.” Sienna’s laugh came out breathless, nerves and want tangled together as Julia settled over her, hands mapping slow down her sides.
“I have exactly one plan right now, and it’s you.” Julia kissed her, slow and deep, and felt Sienna’s whole body arch up into it, uncertain hands finally finding the courage to touch back, sliding up Julia’s spine with a kind of wonder that had nothing performed about it at all.
She took her time working down Sienna’s body, mapping her with hands and mouth both, learning what made her breath catch and what made her whole body go still with concentration, until Sienna was trembling under nothing more than open-mouthed kisses along her stomach.
“Julia—” Her voice had gone thin, hips shifting restless against the daybed’s cushion.
“Not yet. I’m not done exploring.” Julia’s hand slid lower first, cupping her, feeling the heat and the slickness gathered there before she ever committed to more, and Sienna’s whole body jolted at even that light contact, hips canting up to press herself more firmly into Julia’s palm.
“Oh — I didn’t expect it to feel like that. Just your hand.”
“Wait until it’s more than my hand.” Julia parted her slow, watching her face the whole time, and worked one finger into her carefully, testing, feeling the way she was already impossibly tight and untried in a way that had nothing to do with inexperience and everything to do with how badly she’d been holding herself back.
“You’re so responsive. I could do this for an hour just watching your face. ”
“Please don’t take an hour,” Sienna managed, half laugh, half plea, hips already rocking down to meet the slow curl of Julia’s finger.
Julia added a second, working her open with slow care, curling deep on every stroke to find the spot that made Sienna’s whole body go rigid and gasping, and kept at that steady rhythm until her hips had started moving on their own, chasing something she didn’t yet have words for.
“I’ve got you.” Julia finally settled between her thighs properly, replacing her fingers with her mouth, and took her first taste of her slow and deliberate, watching Sienna’s whole body jolt at the sensation like she’d never once imagined it could feel like this.
“Oh — oh God—” Sienna’s hands found Julia’s hair, not guiding, just holding on, hips already rolling up in small, helpless motions she clearly hadn’t given herself permission to make before now.
Julia built it patient, alternating pressure and pace, curling her fingers deep the way decades of practice had taught her exactly how to use, tongue and hand working together until Sienna’s thighs had started shaking around her shoulders and every breath had turned into a broken, wordless sound.
She came apart faster than either of them expected, back bowing off the cushion, a cry breaking loose that she immediately looked mortified by.
“Sorry, I didn’t mean to be that loud—”
“Don’t you dare apologize.” Julia crawled back up her body, kissing the words right out of her mouth, letting her taste herself on her tongue. “I want you exactly that loud. I want to hear every single thing I do to you.”
“I’ve never come like that. Not with — not with anyone.” Sienna’s eyes had gone glassy, wonder and want both still written plain across her face. “Is that — is that normal, that it was that intense?”
“It’s normal when somebody actually pays attention.” Julia settled beside her, pulling her close, in no rush at all, with absolutely nowhere else she needed to be. “Your turn to learn what you like doing to somebody else. Whenever you’re ready.”
Sienna pushed up on shaking arms, determination replacing some of the uncertainty in her face, and reached for Julia with hands that had clearly decided, somewhere in the last ten minutes, that they wanted to learn fast.
“Show me,” she said. “I want to get this right.”
“Sweetheart,” Julia said, guiding her down with a soft laugh, “you’re going to get plenty of practice. We’ve got days left on this ship, and I have absolutely no intention of sharing you with anyone until I’ve had my fill.”
She stretched out and let Sienna settle between her thighs, guiding her with soft, patient direction at first — a hand at the back of her head, a murmured slower, right there, just like that — until Sienna found her own rhythm and Julia could stop guiding at all and simply feel it.
“That’s it,” Julia breathed, hips rolling up slow to meet her mouth. “You’re a fast learner. God, right there—”
Sienna grew bolder with every sound she pulled out of Julia, hands finding her hips, her thighs, learning the geography of her by feel and instinct rather than direction now, and when she finally got two fingers working alongside her mouth the way Julia had shown her, Julia’s whole body arched off the cushion with a moan that carried clean out past the cabana’s curtain.
“Sienna—” Her hand found the back of Sienna’s head, not guiding, just holding on the same way Sienna had held onto her minutes before. “Don’t stop, don’t you dare stop—”
She came apart hard, thighs shaking around Sienna’s shoulders, and pulled her up the second the aftershocks let go, kissing her deep and thorough, tasting herself on her mouth the way she’d promised to share earlier.
“Was that right?” Sienna asked, breathless, searching Julia’s face for confirmation despite the obvious answer written across it.
“That was extraordinary. You’re going to ruin me for anyone slower.” Julia pulled her down against her chest, both of them tangled together and glowing, and traced a lazy line down Sienna’s spine. “Come here. I want you close for a while before we do that again.”
Sienna curled into her without hesitation, head on her shoulder, one leg thrown over Julia’s, and by the time the ship’s horn sounded somewhere in the distance for an approaching port, neither of them had any intention of moving from the cabana for a long while yet.
