Chapter 5

Dean

The sun is just peakingover the horizon when I come knocking on Charlotte’s door. It killed me to have to leave her last night. After I finished giving her a tour of the ranch, we ended up back at her bunkhouse. Where we spent most of the night talking in-between make out sessions. It felt so damn good to hold her in my arms and kiss those lips that I have dreamt about. It felt right.

The door opens and my heart pounds against my rib cage when Charlotte comes into view. She’s wearing a blue and white flannel. The buttons can hardly contain her full, round breasts. Her jeans look like painted on her sexy curves. My dick swells behind my zipper. I’m going to have permanent marks by the end of the day.

“Morning, sunflower. I brought you coffee and breakfast burritos.” I hold out the travel mug filled with coffee just the way she likes it. Creamer with a splash of coffee.

“Just what I needed.” Her voice has a cute morning raspiness to it. “Four thirty is very early, Dean.” The cute raspiness turns crabby. I know once Charlotte gets a few sips of coffee, she’ll be back to her sunny self. She takes the coffee. Bring it to her lips and taking a nice long drink. “Oh, that’s good coffee.”

She takes another sip as she closes the door behind her. “Good morning, and thank you for the coffee,” she says with a smile. Like magic, she is happy and content.

“How is four thirty too early? Didn’t you spend your summers on your grandparents’ farm?”

“Yes, but they let us sleep until seven. You are lucky you’re so cute. Otherwise, my ass would not be up right now.”

I slip my fingers under chin and tilt her head back and say, “Don’t worry, I will make it worth your wild.” I dip my head down and kiss her pillowy soft lips. She tastes like coffee and mint. We both moan as our tongues meet in her mouth. I have to stop myself from deepening the kiss. Otherwise, we will end up in her bed. Not that it would be a bad thing. I just want to make sure she gets the day she deserves.

“This place is beautiful,” Charlotte sighs, resting her head against my chest. We spent the day touring the ranch and playing with all the animals. I should start calling Charlotte Doctor Dolittle with the way the animals loved her. The goats especially. She narrowly escaped being trampled by the bastards when we stopped by to feed them. She ended up on her ass laughing. It’s been incredible watching Charlotte with the animals. She is going to be an amazing veterinarian. The animals in her town are fortunate to have her.

“I’m sure this view doesn’t compare to the one you have in Hope Cove.” I place a kiss on the top of her head before giving Stella a nudge to move again.

“Not even close. Every morning I wake up to the view of the cascades and sunflower fields.” While we were cleaning out Stella’s stall, Charlotte talked about the farm she inherited from her grandparents. A place she spent her summers and discovered her love of helping animals. The more she talks about it, the more it sounds like home. We haven’t talked about what will happen after this weekend. There’s not a doubt in my mind that we are meant to be. Charlotte is it for me. She’s been mine since the day we met. The only thing keeping me here is finishing training Stella for Olive and her family. After that, there’s nothing that could hold me back from moving to be with Charlotte. I just have to prove to her we are more than just this weekend of fun.

“You will have to come see it for yourself.” That statement alone gives me hope she is thinking about us past this weekend.

“I would love that.”

By the time we make it back to the barn, Charlotte is asleep against my chest. “Sunflower, it’s time to wake up.” I softly whisper in her ear. Her eyes flutter open and her cheeks turn pink when she realizes she fell asleep on me.

“I’m sorry.”

“You have nothing to be sorry for. We had a big day,” I say, getting down from Stella. I hold my hands out for Charlotte and help her down. “Why don’t you go take a nap while I finish up my chores? I’ll pick you up for our date at seven.”

She nods in agreement, then turns on her heels and walks away with a yawn. Before she gets too far, I yell after her. “Sunflower, get your pretty mouth over here and give your man a kiss goodbye.”

She spins around and races towards me. Leaping into my waiting arms. She kisses me deep and hard. There are whoops and whistling coming from the guys working around the barn. But I ignore it. My lips part with a groan as her tongue slides into my mouth. Claiming me. That’s right sunflower, I’m all yours.

She breaks from our kiss and slowly slides down to her feet. Teasing me with those soft curves. “See you later cowboy.”

She lets out a yelp when I give her ass a smack. “Save that for later.” She tosses over her shoulder. I watch her walk away. Completely hypnotized by her swaying curves. My dick throbs at the thought of painting that sexy ass red tonight.

I barely pull up outside Charlotte’s bunkhouse when she comes running out the door. Her face is lit up with joy as she gazes at my car. I climb out in time to hear her say, “oh my god, you still have the impala!”

“You bet you cute little ass I do.” It took nearly a year of working nights and weekends working with my dad to rebuild this beauty. He handed me the keys on my high school graduation day. Some of my best memories with my dad.

Some of my best memories with Charlotte were in this car. After our tutoring sessions we go to the local drive in. Where we’d eat burgers and milkshakes. While talking about our hopes and dreams. Most of the time we would end up driving around the outskirts of town. Singing at the top of our lungs to the radio. Watching the stars from the hood of the car. It was in those moments that I fell for Charlotte.

“Hello baby, it’s good to see you again.” She says as she caresses her hand over the hood of the car. While she is distracted, I quickly open the back door and snatch the flowers from the backseat.

“Just so there’s no confusion. These are from me.” I tease. This makes her throw her head back and laugh.

“Sunflowers. You remembered what my favorite flowers are.” She takes the flowers and hugs them to her chest.

“I remember everything about you.” I wink.

“Is that so?” she challenges.

“I know the reason you love sunflowers so much is because your grandfather once told you they were droplets of sunlight on earth.” Her eyes go wide with surprise. I catalogued everything about this woman in my mind.

“When you are deep in thought, you rub your earlobe. Your favorite snack when you’re stressed are lemon heads. I could go on if you like.”

“Oh no, I believe you.” Her shy grin makes my heart flutter. “I’m going to go put these in water and I have something for you.”

Before I can argue that she didn’t need to get me anything, Charlotte is up the porch steps and disappearing inside the house. A few minutes later, she returns with what looks to be a pie tin in her hands and a jacket draped over her right arm.

“I couldn’t sleep once I got back from our ride. So I made you a pie. It’s half cherry and half apple.” She remembers my pie addiction. “You aren’t the only one who has a good memory.” She’s fucking perfect.

“This is perfect, sunflower. Thank you.” I take the pie from her hands, then lean in and kiss her cheek. I haven’t had a homemade pie since my mom moved. “I look forward to eating your pie later.” Preferably off her naked body. Before that can happen, I owe my girl a long overdue first date.
