Chapter 10 #4

Once we reach the camper, Gavin insists on coming in and making sure no one broke in. He glances at my bed. The dress is peeking out from under the pillow.

Shit.

“Why is your dress under your pillow?”

His eyes widen. “Did I get too rough last night?”

I place my palms on his chest and ease up on my tiptoes, brushing a kiss across his lips.

“You were perfect.”

I land back on my feet. “Your scent. I really love the way you smell. Your scent is on my dress,” I answer, a blush rising on my cheeks.

He starts unbuttoning his uniform shirt.

“What are you doing?”

Gavin doesn’t answer. His eyes never leave mine as he removes the tan button-down shirt and places it on the table.

His bulletproof vest is next to come off.

Gavin reaches back, grabbing the hem of the white undershirt and pulls it over his head in one sexy movement.

He walks past me, removes the dress from under the pillow, and drapes his undershirt over it.

Gavin turns back to me. Dispatch is calling him over the radio. Holding my gaze again, he gets dressed. “I’ll bring a shirt everyday so my scent is all over you, little omega.”

And the dam breaks. Slick all down my legs.

“I’ll be outside.”

“Gavin, it sounds like they need you.”

His hand comes up, stroking my cheek. My eyelids lower, and I lean into his hand. A purr rumbles in his chest and a whine escapes my lips.

Gavin takes my lips in a bruising kiss. Our tongues tangle as I grip the back of his hair.

His tongue trails down my neck. “Soon that pussy will be on my tongue again.”

More slick leaves my pussy.

“I’ll see you at two this afternoon, little omega.”

After I lock the door behind him, I watch as he stalks back to his SUV.

Gavin is making it impossible for me to leave. How will I ever walk away from the alpha wolf shifter?

My phone buzzes on the nightstand. I grab it, and peek at the screen. It’s eleven. I haven’t slept more than eight hours in a long time.

“Hey Evie, what’s up?”

“I’m at the gallery this morning, working.”

I smile. “You’ve been a really big help.”

After my assistant Carla cheated with Carson, I fired her, of course.

I asked Genevieve to be a part-time acting manager.

She refused to take a salary. She just asked that I sell her paintings.

Now that my reputation has been tarnished, no one will work with me.

I feel terrible. I had to think outside the box.

While in Lupton, sitting under the stars at night in the woods, I’ve become calmer and been able to think clearer.

I found another way to sell work. I’ve created an anonymous name and profile I’m using on a website I’ve used in the past to sell art.

Hopefully, I’ll have a sale for her by the end of the week.

“Just because the doors are locked doesn’t mean this place can’t look alive to those walking and driving by.”

I smile. “True.”

“I was paying the bills, and I noticed someone accessed previously sold paintings remotely.”

I sit straight up, stomach bottoming out. “Only someone who had knowledge of the system could’ve done it. Could it have been Carla?”

“Why would she do it? She learned just enough about the paintings to get by?” Evie grits out. Disdain is clear in her voice.

“Evie, that’s so true.” I think about another person in my life who knew the business pretty well.

He could almost describe a painting better than me.

He sold art, too. Some people didn’t like working with him because they felt he was greedy when it came to commissions.

I didn’t try raking people over the coals.

He always said, get what you’re worth, baby.

He wouldn’t do this. Would he?

“What’s the username used to access the system?”

“It’s all numbers. Like someone’s hiding their username on purpose,” she says.

“Remember when you and Carson worked at Sheik Gallery House and you two went up for that promotion?”

“Yeah?”

“I think he’s always held resentment against you for getting the job. Then, later, opening your own gallery.”

“But he seemed genuinely happy for me. And helped me open the gallery,” the last part comes out as almost a whisper.

He would have access to the system. Why would he steal from me though? And ruin my career.

“I’ll see if the sheriff can help me find out who accessed the system.”

“And how are things going with the sheriff?” She pushes.

“Well, we didn’t have sex, but things got hot and heavy. He told me to sit on his face.”

I hear her squeal while drumming her hand on the desk. “Okay, I’m not mad. Happy you only gave him a taste.”

We burst into laughter.

“You and Tara should come to the festival,” I say.

“Give me all the details. We’ll be there.”

After getting off the phone with Evie, I press my face against Gavin’s shirt and inhale. My scent creeps up. This time I smell caramel. I better take another scent suppressant.

My thoughts go back to my conversation with Evie. Could someone have broken into my system? I’ll change the passwords. It’s time to crack this case wide open with the sheriff’s help.
