Curiosity
Prologue
Curiosity
People always talk about first love.
Nobody talks about first curiosity.
There are some questions life never prepares you to ask.
Questions that arrive quietly.
Questions that don't announce themselves.
Questions that wait until your heart is tired enough to listen.
If someone had asked me years ago whether I would ever find myself loving someone I never imagined loving, I would've answered without hesitation.
No.
Not because I hated anyone.
Not because I judged anyone.
It simply wasn't a question I had ever allowed myself to consider.
My life was already complicated enough.
I had a man I loved.
Or at least I loved the version of him I kept hoping would someday exist.
I believed in second chances.
Third chances.
Maybe even fourth chances.
I believed love meant waiting.
Being patient.
Holding on.
I didn't know that sometimes holding on is the very thing that keeps you from discovering what love is supposed to feel like.
Funny thing about curiosity...
It doesn't knock on your door all at once.
It slips into your life disguised as ordinary conversation.
A laugh in the hallway.
A shared lunch.
A difficult day at work.
A friendship that asks for nothing.
Then one day...
You hear something.
You ask one question.
One honest question.
And suddenly the life you thought you understood begins asking questions back.
People have spent years trying to explain my story for me.
Some called it confusion.
Some called it a mistake.
Some called it an awakening.
The truth is...
It was none of those things.
It was simply my story.
A story about timing.
About loneliness.
About unconditional love.
About discovering that the people who change your life don't always arrive wearing the faces you expected.
If I learned anything, it was this...
Curiosity doesn't always change who you love.
Sometimes...
It changes how you understand love itself.
And once that happens...
Nothing ever feels ordinary again.
