Glossary

Augment—a specialized sensory ability unique to Alpha wolves. Only manifests when it is inherited by a parent who also possesses an augment. (Examples: Divulger, Sadist, Trace Memory)

Auxillary—officers appointed by the Alpha Commander who track down escapees from Alban prison or other rogues of interest

Basza Kovityk—isolated prison in Volken where the most heinous lycan prisoners are sent; also called “soul breaker”

The Beckoning—magnetic pull that takes hold of a mated pair when the two recognize each other; grows more intense the longer a couple avoids marking each other

Echelon Gods—the three deities which preside over each realm; King Helius (Sempiternus), Queen Terris (Terris), and Queen Clethra (Somnium)

Helius—King of the heavens; god of the sun

Luna Goddess—moon goddess and beloved deity of lycans; the mythical figure responsible for predestined love matches

Luni’amanth—Noctosonoc translation for Moonflower

Lupercalia—a holiday occuring in mid-February which celebrates the origins of the Luna goddess and her twins, who became the first lycans

Maxim Majora—the foundational laws that the Yinsew council use to govern

Maxim Minora—amendments made to individual laws

Noctosonoc—one of the languishing indigenous clans of the Heartlands; Vessa’s grandmother lived among them before moving to the outskirts of Crayford

Norgsik—indigenous lycans that formerly occupied the glacial territory north of Aurora’s Belt; also known as guardians of the portal

Province—the sum of all territories that are occupied by lycans and within the Alpha Commander’s jurisdiction

Qi’yovar—demon bears created by the Blood Master to scavenge and patrol glacial zones

Second Sight—the ability to see through the metaphysical threshold that separates supernatural existence from mankind.

Sempiternus—the eternal realm where King Helius and the other heavenly gods reside

Servos Primae Lunari—oracles selected by the Luna Goddess who are part of a clandestine coven

Somnium—the underworld; formerly ruled by Clethra, goddess of shadows and despair

Sponsa Noctis—the Bride of Midnight; a reincarnation of the Blood Master’s human betrothed who died as a sacrifice in the gods’ mission to prevent Clethra from overthrowing the other realms

Terris—the earthly plain; named for the echelon goddess who presides over it

Tilaak—indigenous clan native to the town of Tukkon

Ugruk Circle—northernmost region composed of glaciers; home to the Norgsik, seals, and qi’yovar

Yinsew Council—a panel of twelve elder representatives from each continent who are appointed to the serve in the capital senate and enforce the laws which protect lycans
