Cyborg Odin's Desire
One.
The Alarm blearing out from her PID told her something was wrong at the clinic.
For Gods sake, she’d not been in bed 3 hours….
Throwing off the blanket she sent the security vid to the wall screen playing it while she dressed.
A dark shadow moved strangely at her clinic's back door, seemingly breaking in.
What the hell…Shit… Her patients…
If the guy was high or drunk, looking for drugs, he could do a number on her patients.
Grabbing her keys she threw on her jacket heading downstairs and out the door.
In her vehicle, she drove like a crazy person way too fast for the 10 minute journey making it in 8.
Out the car she was at the front door and opening up quietly making her way in.
Thinking it would be the path of least resistance as he’d gone in the back door.
Checking her PID, there was no indication that ‘he’d’ left.
The reception showed nothing out of place.
A dull thud had her jumping alerting her to the back rooms.
The area that was holding the animals, where those receiving treatment were and the surgery rooms in the back. Slowly walking through the hallway she passed the empty treatment rooms going into the holding areas. Stroking those awake, she whispered to them passing by.
Another dull thud had her stop for a moment before heading to the surgery areas.
Pushing open the door silently, she saw him standing by the medicine cabinets.
A mountain of a man. He was huge, several cabinet doors were open, he was looking for something.
Catching his face in the moonlight she gasped.
His face turning to her. Her anger peeked; he needed serious medical attention not a damn vets.
“Female. I heard you coming from the car park.”
What?.... “This is a vet’s not a doctor’s surgery and we’re closed!” She blurted knowing he wouldn’t hurt her.
“Wasn’t able to disarm the alarm. I apologise. My infiltration skills are hampered by the damage. I’m Cyborg. Needed attention now. Couldn’t wait. I’ve started to heal. Without the treatment, it will worse and I will not be able to function.”
Seeing his face, he was a beauty even with half his face ruined. His arm hanging at a weird angle on the same side of his face. Both the arm and leg shredded on that side too. He was in a bad way.
Looked like he’d been blown up. She could see metal showing through in his face and body.
Switching on the light she went to him. She could see he was right, his face was starting to heal. Cyborg. She guessed his nanos at work. Taking his arm, she carefully cut away what was left of the cloth. Quickly seeing that the arm was shattered. “Shit. This is bad. This needs surgery.”
“You can do it.”
“Me?” She glanced up at him frowning. “I’m a vet not a surgeon.”
“Has to be you. Time is running out; I’ve got to go after the saboteur. They blew me and my bike out of the sky from under me. Didn’t hear a thing until it too late.”
“Well they did a number on you. What have you taken already?” He told her. “Damn. It’s a wonder you’re still standing.”
“Cyborg. My nanos filter them out almost as quickly as I take them. Please do it.” Lifting more meds at him he shook his head at her. “My pain receptors are switched off, the meds were to limit the human damage. Took enough to take the edge off my abilities to repair.”
Ok then… With a nod, taking his hand, she held it.
“Ready?” he gave a nod. Realigning the arm.
Trying not to make the bones worse she did what she had to do to straighten it.
The sound of his bones crunching and cracking were scary loud.
Relieved with it seemed right. She took a breath and nodded.
It was done but she wasn’t happy. “Look, this needs stitching in place, pinning, a cast.”
“Can’t. Just wrap it. The nano’s will fix it in a day or two. As long as the bones, muscle and fibre are aligned right, they will do the rest.”
Sighing, she turned pulling open a drawer grabbing some rods.
Then wrappings, sterilizer, and butterfly clips going to work on his arm, pushing the broken bone back in place.
Helping to close the wounds, using sterile wipes, healing spray, lint and bandage she made a splint without anything invasive.
It wasn’t going to do much.
Giving him a moment she cut away the shredded cloth wiping his other arm, then checking his side and leg that were also shredded. Spraying cleanser, using tweezers to pull out the larger debris, before spraying them with more sterilizer, using wipes to clean him up.
She shook her head. “These need flushing.”
“No time.” He told her. Standing. “I have to get moving. Thank you for the treatment. I’m sorry I broke in.”
“You should rest a while.”
“You would offer me that?” He sounded surprised.
“Of course. You need help. Rest.”
He gave a nod. “A worthy female. I cannot. Not right now. There will be time for that later. I will be back…. to thank you.”
“Wait.” Going to the corner she picked up a walking stick that had been left some time ago.
Bending down, pulling what was left of his trouser and leg together, she strapped the stick to it with bandages tying it tight.
Pulling everything in line. It was crap work.
She wasn’t happy and pulled her gloves off throwing them in the waste bin in disgust.
“Ok. It’s not great but it will hold the leg in place while it nits together if you don’t do anything stupid. Standing back, she didn’t like the half-hearted work. “Please see a medic if nothing else.”
“Not now. On the hunt. I thank you again.” He walked out the back door.
All the air seemed to follow him. Breathing out slowly. The clinic now eerily quiet. Going to the holding area she checked each of the animals in turn. Giving them a little stroke, some water if needed, talking quietly to them and started to shut up shop.
Cleaning down the back room, sterilizing it, throwing away the blood, gauze and gloves. It was as good as new in no time.
One last look around, turning off the lights relocking the back door from the inside before going back to reception, going out the front door locking that too behind her.
Checking the time, it was a little after 2am.
Needing to be up and back on duty in 4 hours. Her day started at 7. She had the early shift.
It had been a crap night. Although meeting the Cyborg hadn’t been crap at all.
For all his injuries he was a stunning male.
Sighing, she debated staying and doing some paperwork but her bed was calling.
She did love that bed. Cranking her neck from side to side she wondered what the Cyborg had been doing to be blown up.
Who he’d pissed off that much. Blowing his solar bike out from under him was extreme for anyone.
Things had to be bad somewhere but that was for him to deal with. She hoped he made it. Going to her car, opening the door she was in and driving home. Only too happy to hit the sheets.
And back opening up the clinic on time next morning. Double expresso coda in hand.
The kennel staff coming in before 8 to walk and feed the animals in recovery and under treatment.
Washing up she put on her uniform and got to work.
Clients were already waiting on her. Those that needed to be seen before their own day stated.
Those going away. Or need to be somewhere else.
Normal human life passing by. And on her third client when Marrian came in after they were done. Her long-term friend and bookkeeper.
“Hey Janna, I’ve a notification of an emergency visit to the clinic last night, the alarm went off but I’ve no report or charge made.”
She nodded. “Morning. False alarm, no charges to be made. I’ll do the report before I leave.”
“Lost sleep for nothing then.”
“Being here is never for nothing.” She told her smiling.
Throwing away the old gloves and grabbing a new set.
She wasn’t sure what was happening with the Cyborg but didn’t want to draw attention to him having been in her clinic.
There was no point in doing so and people talked.
Word would soon get around and there was no telling where that would lead.
“I’ll leave you to it.” Marrian told her. “Lunch?”
“That would be nice. 1?”
“It’s a date.” Laughing a little as Marrian left her to her next client. It was the only kind of ‘date’ she was getting. Her next client coming in at that moment.
“Good morning, what can I do for you today?”
Her day speeding through, her only reprieve her lunch hour with Marrian.
And nice for once that it wasn’t interrupted.
Good food and good company made her day.
Don’t get her wrong, she loved her work.
It had taken a long time to save the money to open her own clinic.
Doing double shifts for years, working weekends.
It had paid off in the end. Her clinic might be small, but she loved every part of it.
Taking on more staff as it grew, she was proud of where she was now. All that hard work worth it.
Locking up at the end of the day, she breathed in the cool night air.
Wondering what had happened to the Cyborg. Looking up at the clear night sky. She hoped he made it. Such a huge male compared to her it didn’t mean he wasn’t vulnerable. Standing head and shoulders above her, twice as wide. It didn’t mean he was invincible.
He was a mountain of a man…..
She’d seen very few over the years.
She didn’t watch the news or dwell on events.
Her work continued no matter what the world did.
But she knew there was some kind of battle going on out there.
Several elements that wanted control of her world.
Political fallings out were common. When elections hadn’t changed the leadership, they turned to direct action. That, she didn’t like.
People were getting hurt. The Cyborg a clear example.
No one would want more of that.
It wasn’t in anyone’s interest. Yet it was going on.
Going to her car, she started for home. She’d made a great many sacrifices over the years to have her dream.
It was hardly surprising that it had become a solitary life.
Working so much she’d had little time for anything else.
Not that she wanted anything else. She was happy in her life. And had everything she needed.
