Chapter 15
Chapter Fifteen
“Come in,” Nova yelled as she finished studying her appearance in the well-lit mirror.
The makeup team had finished and were gone now, leaving her waiting for the wardrobe folks. Xavier would be there, soon, but she figured he’d be a while as he finished his detailed security checks.
To her surprise though, he was the one who walked in the room.
He stopped short upon realizing she was in her strapless bra and panties.
Smiling, she said, “Sorry. Wardrobe is about to come in and get me dressed.”
“They just… eh, see you… in your underwear?”
Giggling, she said, “Yeah. It’s a whole team that gets me ready.
You should see it during a show! We have literal seconds to do it.
I think I saw seventeen different outfit changes on the setlist tonight.
The stage has trapdoors or we use little spots behind props for privacy.
It’s a team of like six people. Like a pit crew at a NASCAR race. ”
“Huh. Never would have guessed. I’d like to see that,” Xavier said.
She wondered if he meant he wanted to see her changing or just the process. Probably the latter. But she didn’t mind if he wanted to see the other. She was half naked before him right now.
And it excited her.
He didn’t look her up and down. Instead, he kept his eyes on hers and stepped closer. “The hotel’s team wouldn’t let me do as thorough a search as I would have liked. But they’ve assured me they’re keeping a close eye on things. Said there is a heavier police presence, too.”
Suddenly, she wasn’t near as excited. “Do you think something bad is going to happen?”
“Not necessarily. But one can never be too careful. I guess you’ve noticed I requested three guards outside the dressing room door,” Xavier replied.
“Yes. Thank you.”
“Well, after this afternoon…” He let the words trail off, but she still got the implication.
“Xavier?” She closed the gap between them until they were only a few inches apart. “I’m not afraid when you’re close to me.”
She was worried about how he’d react to the admission, but it only took her a second to realize that he wasn’t a bit uneasy by what he heard.
Raising a hand, she braced herself, believing he was about to gently caress her face. He stopped before his fingers brushed her skin though, chuckling and saying, “I’ll ruin your makeup. That’s why I won’t kiss you now, either.”
“I don’t care about my makeup!”
He laughed. “Your team that worked really hard on it might.”
To hell with the makeup! They can redo it! she wanted to yell. But he was right. Waiting was the respectful thing to do.
They were out of time, anyway, because another knock at the door announced the arrival of the wardrobe team.
“I won’t be far. All night,” he promised her.
A sense of comfort swept over her, as she realized things would work out.
She just prayed all her worrying to that point had been for nothing. But she sensed that Xavier was on edge. He clearly thought something was going to happen.
But, she reminded herself, with Daddy around, no matter what happened, she’d be all right.
He’d protect her.
