Chapter 30
Chapter Thirty
Nova was fully prepared for the spanking she was due, but when Daddy came back into the room, he reached for his belt and started putting it on.
“Is everything okay?” she asked, torn on whether she should point out the fact that he’d promised discipline or just let it go.
“Yeah. I just got a call about the investigation in Vegas.”
Now, Nova forgot about the impending spanking as she sat up straighter and said, “Any leads?”
“They have some video. It’s a woman we’re looking for, after all. But that’s about it.”
“Oh! So… that’s a start. Right?”
Xavier nodded. “Yeah. We’ll know more soon.
Anyway, this will be over before we know it.
This plan of ours is going to work.” Clearing his throat, he rubbed the back of his neck as he said, “Hey, we were invited to a cookout that’s about to start.
Why don’t you get ready, little girl. Your friends are going to be there. Should be a good time.”
She stood and as she watched him finish putting his belt on, the spanking came back to her mind.
Should she say something about it or was she just getting off the hook on this one? Why had he changed his mind?
Something was on Daddy’s mind. And she just hoped everything was okay.
The cookout was at Dax’s house and a lot of people had shown up.
Thankfully, the spacious backyard could hold everyone, but some folks were in the house while others were in the front yard.
A wonderful aroma of grilled meat wafted through the night. Clear lights were strung from the patio out to a tree, adding to the late summer ambiance as fireflies appeared, disappeared, and reappeared in irregular intervals.
The sound of cicadas seemed ever present in the distance.
Stella had a “she shed” near the rear of the property—a cute little charming cottage that had flowers in the boxes that ran the length of the two windows on either side of the door.
Inside, it wasn’t huge, but there was enough room for Stella, Katie, Trixie, and Nova to sit on the couch and two comfy chairs that served as the only furniture.
“Something happened today,” Nova told them. “Right before we came here. I was all set to get a spanking and then Daddy took a phone call. Once he was off, he just sort of forgot about it all and put his belt on.”
“Are you upset that you didn’t get a spanking?” Stella asked. “Because I’m always relieved when stuff like that happens!”
“Same,” Trixie said.
“I wish I would have been in your shoes earlier,” Stella added.
Nova looked at her. “Your Daddy didn’t like that you did the airbag thing either?”
“Sure didn’t. He gave me twenty licks with the paddle. My bottom still hurts!”
“You two didn’t get in trouble, did you?” Nova asked Katie and Trixie. “Y’all didn’t do it.”
“No spankings for me. Thankfully,” Trixie said.
“Me neither,” Katie told them. “Though my Daddy wasn’t happy about how out of hand the party at the haunted house got.”
They all laughed.
“It was fun,” Nova admitted. “And flying was so cool! I just can’t believe I got away with it.”
“Do you think that phone call he got had anything to do with it?” Katie asked.
Nova thought about it. “No. I think I know what it is.” She explained her theory.
“Okay,” Stella said, “now I can see why you might have wanted that spanking.”
“What should I do?” she asked.
“Well, I’m of the mindset that communication is key,” Stella replied. “In any relationship, really. But especially in ones like the kind we all have. This only works if we are good at expressing our wants, needs, and limits.”
“I second what she said,” Katie added.
Nova looked at Trixie to see her nodding, as well.
“You’re right,” Nova told them. “I need to talk to him.”
She knew that was right—and she hoped she could work up the nerve to do it—but right now, she was just going to let it lie.
Perhaps she wasn’t ready to face a spanking quite yet.
