Chapter 2

Damien

The game today was fucking amazing. There are probably players who would disagree, but I enjoy the close games where the teams are well matched and the best skills and strategy wins. Sometimes even a little luck. Afterwards, a few of us joined the coach for a press session before going to the locker room. Once I finish that and shower and dress, I head out to meet up with my family, who made the trip to see me in the flesh.

What I wasn’t expecting when I catch up with my family was to see a literal angel dressed in my team’s jersey and short shorts standing with them. Talk about a vision with long white-blond hair that’s done up in a high ponytail. Deep brown eyes begging me to drown in them. Lightly flushed skin, and the pinkest pouty pair of lips I’ve ever seen. Not to mention her shapely body and long legs that end at her feet covered in high heel shoes. I’m instantly a goner, and the weird thing—I’m okay with it.

Striding over, I first wrap my mother in a tight hug, then proceed to hug my siblings that took the time from their busy schedules to come and support me. After I release Ellie, I glue my attention onto the angel standing beside her.

“Hi, allow me to introduce myself. I’m Damien.”

The angel giggles, then blushes. I make a vow then and there to make her blush all the time.

“Damien, this is my best friend, Tanya.” Ellie says, motioning to the angel in my team colors.

I reach out my hand to hers, which she accepts within seconds. I swear I feel something electric passing through us but brush it off.

“It’s great to finally meet you, Damien,” my angel lets out in a breathy tone.

“So, what’s the plan now? Are we just supposed to head home or is our gracious brother here going to invite us back to his place?” Finn asks, a smirk playing on the lips of my youngest brother.

Seb and Mom give him the eye.

“What? I’m getting hungry.”

So, I end up inviting everyone back to my apartment for takeout. It would be easier than trying to find a place to eat at this time of day for a large group.

After we arrive and I place the food order, I give a tour of my place which honestly doesn’t take very long.

After we’re back in the living room, I place my attention back on Tanya. “So, what do you think?

“Hmm, it’s sparse, but masculine at the same time. I bet it works for you.”

Suddenly, I want to ask her what touches she would want to make. Where in the hell did that thought come from? I’ve never asked for a female’s opinion on my personal affairs before. Well, except my mom, and I had thought earlier of asking her for help decorating the place.

When the food finally arrives, I place everything, including plastic cups, paper plates, and cutlery on my dining table family style, then tell my family to dig in.

For the next two hours, while the takeout is being enjoyed, I make time to chat first with my mom, then each of my siblings that were able to make it. Then finally I have a chance to speak with Ellie’s best friend.

“So, what did you think of the game?”

She grins. “It was awesome. It was also my first-time seeing a pro game live as well.”

I grin. “Well then, I’m glad I was able to be your first.”

She giggles, which leads to another blush.

We continue chatting until Sebastian announces that it’s time to head back home.

As they begin to leave, I reach for Tanya. “It was really nice meeting you. I would love to see you again soon, if possible.”

She winks. “Me too.”

When she releases my hand, I notice there’s now a slip of paper in my hand which has her phone number written on it. Sneaky angel. I give her my best smile. “I’ll send you a text message ASAP. Also, I’m planning on visiting my mother within the next week, and hopefully we came make plans to meet up for coffee or something along those lines.”

She winks. “Make it something a little harder and smoother, and I’ll be there.” With that, she releases my hand, then departs with my family.

Tanya

We’ve only been on the road for about five minutes when I get a text notification from an unknown number.

Unknown Number: Hey, it was great meeting you, Tanya. Can’t wait to speak with you more often. And, of course, to see you when I visit Sandy Cove.

I smile, knowing that Damien was as anxious to talk to me as I was to hear from him.

“Hey, girl, are you all right?” Ellie asks, who’s wearing a huge smirk.

Seb chuckles. “Probably just my brother texting her like he said he was going to. One thing you should know about Damien is that when he sets his sights on someone or something, he won’t stop till he achieves it.”

I giggle nervously. “Good to know.”

Focusing back on my phone, I decide to send him a text back. Hiya, handsome. Glad to hear from you. Can’t wait to get to know you better as well.

Damien : So, you know what I do for a living. What do you do?

Tanya : I own the cutest little flower shop in Sandy Cove. You should come and see it when you visit.

Damien : Oh, I plan on it. ??

Tanya : Have to go. Ellie’s bugging me to talk to her. Talk to you later.

Damien : Haha … Sounds good. TTYL Tanya.

I power down my phone and place it in my purse, then turn my attentions on Ellie and Seb. “K, tell me all of Damien’s likes and dislikes.”
