Chapter 8

Farren

Today we are finally leaving this hell hole.

I am ready to go home and sleep in my own bed, and I am definitely done with looking over my shoulder constantly.

We have packed up everything and are just waiting to walk out to our vehicles.

Over the past couple of days, Damon has handed out quite a few of his cards to shifters who are considering switching packs.

Hopefully, we have some women wanting to switch; we need more women to balance out all the men. I am hopeful that the red-haired beauty will be joining us with her brother, and maybe even her parents.

“You have everything, Moon?”

I nod and grab the small bag that I am allowed to carry.

Damon is a bit protective and literally just wants me to lie in bed, relaxing, but that is not me and he will get over it.

He waits for me and opens the door, and I step out onto the porch.

Brantley is sitting there, and I follow his gaze to see Jackson walking around with Aiden.

How beautiful.

“I am so lucky,” Brantley tells me, and I smile and touch the back of his head. I’m so happy for him.

“Load up, everyone!” Damon yells, and everyone starts picking up their bags and other items off the ground and storing them in the back of the vehicles.

Damon walks in front of me with our bags.

He clicks the clicker, and our Hummer’s back door opens.

Brantley is behind me and, all of a sudden, the hair at the back of my neck rises.

My eyes move around the large field, and I see a pack walk onto the property.

I breathe in deeply, my eyes closed. My eyes fly open at the scent—they are here for Aiden.

Jackson arrives as the pack charges us. Damon grabs me, lifting me clean off the ground, and puts me in one of the Hummers. Brantley starts to hand Aiden to me.

“No, get your ass in the vehicle, Brantley,” Jackson snarls, and he puts him in the Hummer with me.

“You will drive if it comes to it, Moon.” Damon kisses my forehead and shuts the door, leaving me the keys.

Damon changes into wolf form, running straight for the horde with all of our packmates at his back.

Maverick and Jackson are right on his ass.

I cover my mouth as they all collide with each other.

My body is shaking with fear of what can happen to Damon.

I am in awe of him again as he charges at his enemies, tearing them to bits. He is purely vicious.

A wolf snakes by the horde and slams into the side of the Hummer. He stands and looks through the window at Brantley, then at the baby.

Oh, god.

He howls and I know this is not good at all.

I take the keys and climb into the driver’s seat.

I may not be able to fight, but I am not going to sit here and do nothing.

I put the keys in the ignition, start up the Hummer, and floor it.

I spin around and spot the wolf who found us.

I run that bitch over, the Hummer jumping up and down.

I laugh; then I find the next one. He is on Maverick’s back.

Maverick throws him off and I handle the rest. Brantley is telling me which ones to get, and I am following his lead.

I spot a pistol on the seat beside me. Bingo! I put the Hummer in park and crack my window open. A shifter starts toward us and I pull the trigger, hitting it right in the fucking head.

“Good fucking shot!” Brantley tells me.

Aiden is crying in the back seat, but I can’t let that concern me. Brantley has covered his ears, but I will protect him from these fuckers. Who is that desperate to take a baby? These people are sick.

Damon

I knew she would not sit her ass still, but I hoped. She can’t shift anymore since she is pregnant, so she used the Hummer as a weapon. At first I was hopeful she was leaving for safety, but that hope was gone the second I saw her run over a wolf.

I grab the foot of a wolf who was trying to sneak up behind Jackson. He snaps around and I catch his throat in my mouth; I twist and kill him.

Then I hear gunshots, and I see a wolf go down. Farren shot him through the window.

I go back to tearing every one of these fuckers to pieces. How dare they try to take what is mine? This pack is mine. These members are mine. And they have put Farren in danger, and that is unforgivable in my eyes—I will show no mercy.

One by one, they fall to the ground, dead. Jackson is a fucking beast. He is the biggest bear I have ever seen, and he is squashing all of them like fucking bugs.

I turn around and a wolf is changing back to human form, trying to sneak up on the Hummer. I charge him and dig my claws into his back, and I tear his head off. Don’t fuck with her.

“Get ’em, baby!” Farren yells and, in my mind, I am laughing. She is amazing. Then I hear a crack and the sound of the Hummer bouncing as she runs over another.

When Maverick kills the last wolf, I raise my head and howl. We have ended the enemy, who dared to attack us, and none of us was killed. We are a very strong pack. We can conquer anything, and I am fucking proud. I hear the Hummer door open, and Farren climbs out.

I change back into my human form, walk to her, and touch her stomach. “Okay, Moon?”

She nods and lays her head on my chest, and a door opens beside us. Jackson is holding his mate and son.

Someday my pack will be filled with more members, including more mates and more kids. More of everything. My kids are the future. I want this world to be better for them, so they don’t have to worry about shit like this.

“Damon!” Farren screams.

I turn around and see one last wolf charging straight for Jackson. His head transforms into that of a bear, and he grabs the wolf’s head. Then he bites down, shattering it.

I have never fucking seen anything like that before. I have seen partial shifts, but it’s usually just the hands. That shit is unreal.

“Fucking hell, I am glad you are on our side,” Farren says and I laugh, kissing the top of her head.

I think, in a way, this was necessary. We needed to set an example for the other alphas, letting them know we are not someone to be fucked with.

We are deadly.

I take some clothes out of the back of the Hummer and throw some to Maverick and Jackson.

We all climb inside the Hummer, and Farren is in the front with me.

Jackson, Brantley, and Aiden are in the middle, with Maverick in the back.

I just want to be fucking home, where I know Farren will be safe.

She is pregnant, and she needs to be watched carefully.

I wish she would consider being bed bound until labor.

I won’t be that lucky, but I know I am fucking blessed with my Moon. She is everything that I ever imagined and wanted.

Farren

A few minutes before we get home, I gasp as Damon slams on his brakes.

Someone is right in the middle of the road.

I stare in absolute shock. “That’s Ken,” I whisper.

Everyone in our SUV growls. Damon tears open his door, and Ken changes into a wolf and runs into the woods with his tail wagging. What the absolute fuck?

Damon walks to the edge of the woods, and I know that Ken is gone. He is fucking with me. He was standing there, just smiling. Why won’t he leave me alone? I am pregnant, and I am sure no man besides Damon would want me now.

Brantley presses his hand against my shoulder, comforting me, and I touch my stomach as thoughts race through my head. I thought Ken had given up—we have not seen or heard a thing about him until this moment—but I guess he never did. Which sucks, big time.

Damon gets back into the Hummer, and there is complete silence. “Damon…” I start but stop because I have no clue what to say, honestly.

“I will kill him,” he growls and slams the vehicle into drive.

We stay silent at his words, the threat hanging in the air.

I know he will protect me, but it’s hard not to be scared when someone wants to do horrible things to you and is not afraid to stand in front of an entire pack like it’s nothing—and do it smiling.

That is not a sane person. He is psychotic; he was crazy even before he went rogue.

He is unpredictable and I hope that he falls off a cliff.

I just want to have my baby and live happily ever after.

But I know it won’t be that easy.
