46. The End
Chapter forty-six
The End
(Alessio)
From the garden, the party spills through the open French doors in waves of laughter and music. I pause by the fountain, letting the night air cool my champagne-warmed skin, and find myself captivated by the tableau inside.
Danica stands in the center of it all, radiant in that red dress that makes her look like a scarlet Queen.
The confidence she wears now suits her better than any designer label could.
Her head is thrown back in laughter at something Adira just said, her hand automatically reaching for Dante beside her.
He catches it without looking, an unconscious dance they've perfected.
My heart swells watching them. Dante—my first love, my oldest wound, my dearest friend—has shed the weight of solitude that used to bend his shoulders.
The feared Don Fera still commands respect, but the ice in his eyes has melted into something warmer.
Something real. Right now, he's looking at Danica like she hung the moon, that rare, unguarded smile lighting up his face.
Who could have predicted this? That they would find not just each other, but this? This beautiful, unconventional family we've built.
The party guests move around them like stars orbiting twin suns. No judgment, no whispers, just acceptance. Love in all its forms, celebrated openly.
I take another sip of champagne, letting the bubbles dance on my tongue.
Seven months ago, I was planning their wedding in Vegas, hoping it would stick this time.
Now look at us—Dante and Danica, married and thriving.
Me, still free to be exactly who I am, but with a home to return to.
A place where I belong, without having to belong to anyone.
Inside, the music changes to something slower. Dante pulls Danica close, pressing a kiss to her temple. She melts into him, then reaches out a hand in my direction. Even from here, I can see the love in her eyes.
I smile, pushing off from the fountain. This is what happiness looks like—not perfect, not traditional, but real. Sometimes messy. Sometimes beautiful. Right.
As I walk back toward the warmth of the party, toward the people I love, I think about how stories don't always end the way you expect.
Sometimes, they end better.
Sometimes, the happily ever after looks like a Don and his Queen, and the man who loves them both, building something beautiful out of broken pieces.
And really, what could be more perfect than that?
