Chapter 3

VALANCE

My heart hammered against my chest, my blood an inferno. Whatever poison lingered inside me burned away, giving me back feeling to my hands and feet. Spreading through the rest of me, waking me from this dreadful paralysis.

It was happening.

I heard the goblin talking to Kormac, demanding answers. She didn’t seem to be getting any from him.

It was happening. A familiar wave of dizziness, the veil of blindness. Shadows across my reason, nightmares within and without. So much anger and terror and…

…and strength.

“Berserker!” the goblin screamed.

Then other screams came. Blood-curdling… Blood igniting. I broke chains and lashed out at things that touched me. Fingers in wetness, hands snapping bone and more screams and chaos, and me moving and grabbing and crushing and squeezing and covered in hot liquid.

I screamed from somewhere, deep down in my blindness. Rage as hot as Summer days. Beyond that.

Inferno of rage…

Kill…

Kill…

Kill…

So far beyond that still.
