Chapter 11 #4

I climaxed quickly, spurting my hot liquid against the logs, crying out with sheer abandon.

“Fuck…” the human grunted, still thrusting away. “Fuck…”

He released my throat.

His orgasm burst inside me, hot and incredible. Unending. Powerful thrust after powerful thrust, his cum shooting into me, fingers back to digging at my hips. Thrust and thrust and grunt and, “Fuck!”

My breath caught, my body tumbling into a heady haze of euphoria. Away into darkness and snow and—

“Where am I?” I said within the night, within the snow.

Nothing but snow and pitch-black above, rich with stars.

I found myself standing in that snow, looking at rolling white. Peaks and valleys of a land—

“Winter?” I asked.

Alive… a whisper echoed in my head.

Awake…

The snow became blue and green, much like the rare color display sometimes seen in the night skies of Summer’s north. As bright as fire and completely strange, the colors drifted across the white as sunlight rippling on the surface of a meadow.

And stars…

There were stars in there…

Breathing against my neck, the kind after heavy activity. Hands on me, roughness against my hips and my hand and…

…and I faced the log wall, my palms against it, Kormac still inside me.

He was done climaxing, his breath hot against my neck. Stoking my fires again.

I didn’t know what to say, confused by what I’d just seen.

Snow…

Colors…

Stars…

What had those colors been? What had they meant? A trick of the mind through climax? No. Something else, something related to this mess.

My breathing matched his, my body not ready to move.

But his was. He pulled out of me and walked away.

I glanced over my shoulder to see him return to the bath to quickly wash himself down.

Taking particular care to cleanse his cock of me.

He retrieved a towel from beneath the bath and wrapped it around his waist.

“We’re even now,” he said without looking at me.

Meaning he felt nothing fucking me like that?

He left the shack.

“Your clothes…” I muttered, eyeing his leather garments on the floor.

I lowered myself to the ground, completely breathless, every nerve raw. My body was an inferno of sensation. This was what I’d wanted, wasn’t it? Back when he’d been my prisoner. Back when my fantasies had run my life.

Now… Now I didn’t know what to think, how to even contemplate what we’d just done and what had followed.

Eventually, I peeled myself off the floor and returned to the bath. To clean the new dirtiness crawling over my skin.

I’d let him take me, release himself inside me. I gave him a piece of myself. I shouldn’t have. I clearly didn’t understand restraint.

We’re even…

Danu! This is what I’d wanted from him. Now that I’d had him, I whined about it?

Because it felt wrong.

Because it felt like we both deserved better.

I wrapped a towel around my waist and stepped out of the shack to see where he’d gone, if he wanted his clothes.

There was no sign of the old woman, everything gone. The sun was set now, a crescent moon having taken over.

The human held up the Breath of Water spheres, still clad in his towel.

“She’s gone,” he announced, a sullen cloud hanging over him. “Left these and this.” There was a scroll of paper tucked into the fold of his towel.

“Did you see her leave?”

He shook his head.

“Let me get our clothes.”

When I returned to the shack, our clothing wasn’t there. I frowned and stepped back outside.

“They’re gone,” he said.

“They are.”

I slowly walked across the grass toward him, my body light. Would we ever talk about the sex again? Or was that really it? An eye for an eye, so to speak. I gave him his life, so he gave me an epic fuck. The end. Let us go north and solve this mystery and somehow be forever free of one another.

I winced as the soul bond rebutted the latter.

Being apart? Never!

“What’s that?” I asked of the scroll.

He handed me a sphere, then removed the scroll. “Have a read for yourself.”

I uncurled the crinkled parchment, finding a spidery scroll, spatters of ink around the edges.

Clothes will await you in Autumn upon our reunion. Until then, you are mer.

Best wishes to you both.

“Makes sense,” Kormac said.

“Our weapons?” I asked.

He shrugged. “I guess they’ll make us sink to the seafloor.”

“A horrible thought.”

“The mer might help us. Do they have weapons?”

“I’m not actually sure. I’ve never seen a sword-wielding mer before.”

“Then we might get them back in Autumn.”

“We may well do.”

He looked out at the waves. “Say the word.”

“What word?”

“When you want to swim away from here.” He didn’t look at me.

“I’m… I’m ready…” I glowered at myself from the inside for being so meek in his presence. “I’m ready whenever you are.” I kept my tone as clipped and icy as the bond allowed.

To the seven hells with him. Two of us could behave this way. I didn’t care. I got a decent fuck, that’s all I required from him, along with his protection. He was a tool to be used, nothing more.

I turned away from him, swallowing any semblance of an apology at a bad thought.

Sorry…

After a long string of silence, he spoke. “Then let’s go now.”
