Chapter 59
Chapter fifty-nine
Remy
I find Erik at the piano. He’s playing something new, a piece I don’t recognize. No lyrics yet.
I rest a hand on his shoulder.
“We need to go. Someone is after Tianna.”
He stops mid-phrase and turns. “What do you mean?”
I hand him my phone, the images already pulled up.
He barely looks. “That isn’t her.”
“I know,” I say. “You know. No one else will care enough to look that closely.”
“Then it’s deliberate,” he says, gaze sharpening as it flicks back to the screen. “You’re looking for someone comfortable half-assing it. I’d start with Rasmussen.”
I rake a hand through my hair. “I hired someone. They have a cyber specialist.” I close my eyes briefly. “In the meantime, Tianna needs us.”
“I hope whoever you hired does better than your lackluster attempts to find the Angel.”
There are moments I wish he were less certain. This is one of them.
“I hired someone who will get results.”
He opens his mouth, no doubt ready to dismantle my past failures. I lift a hand. “I am telling you she needs us.”
He blinks, recalibrating. Then nods once. “Then we should go.”
He pauses, already thinking three steps ahead. “If I have a piano delivered to her house, I can work from there. She has the space.”
Fuck. My. Life.
I turn for the door. Behind me, Erik is already on his phone, either pricing piano transport or researching security.
I don’t ask which.
