It’s been a few hours since this morning, and we’ve all gathered in front of the fireplace in Mike’s room, sitting on the pillows he’s set up as a little reading corner for himself. Believe it or not, Mike loves to read. It’s probably the only normal thing about him.
Jessica is curled up by my side while my brother rests in the arms of his boyfriend.
We all seem too content for this to be real.
It’s almost as if we’ve always lived together.
I’ll admit, I’d love for that to be our reality—spending our days fucking each other and chatting in front of the fireplace instead of moving from town to town, never really belonging anywhere.
“Tell me about the hunts,” Jessica breaks the silence, causing a stir among the three of us.
Silence hangs in the air until Nate speaks up—always the one to lead when the rest of us have nothing to say.
“They started after college. We hunt two to five women in each town and then move on. It never ends like this,” he tells her.
I can tell he’s hoping to scare her off, but I see our girl’s fire ignite.
He isn't telling her anything she couldn't figure out just by being around us, but it's enough for her to realize the dangerous territory she’s stepping into.
“How many women have you killed in this town?” she presses.
“Five. We need to move to the next one soon—they’re starting to suspect the missing women reports,” he informs her.
I know it’s a lie; no women have been reported missing so far.
I’ve made sure of it. If they had been, we’d be long gone.
“They don’t have any real clues for now, though.
” He’s trying to intimidate her, but I can see the wheels turning inside her head.
“So where are we going next?” She asks, a hint of authority in her voice as she demands to be included.
Nate chuckles. “Oh, are you joining us, darling?” he asks with a teasing tone. None of us expect her answer.
“Yes, I am. You chased me through a fucking maze and gave me the best orgasms I’ve ever had in my life. Of course I’m coming with you. Did you expect to be done with me that easily?”
Laughter fills the room. I kiss her temple, and she smiles back at me.
“Good girl. I would never leave you anyway,” I tell her, but part of me knows it’s a lie. Doubt is already creeping in. Is bringing this woman into our life of crime really a good idea? She nods at my words, ignoring the hesitation in my voice.
Even though I’m pretty sure all three of us were already entertaining the fantasy of taking her with us, I’m not sure if it’s the right call. Yet, part of me wants to do exactly that—steal her from her life and keep her with me for as long as we get to live in this world.
