Chapter Forty-Three
Amirah
Bear takes a step toward Jewel, gripping the knife in his hand. What the fuck is he doing?! And what is Jewel saying—it’s him? Who?
Is Zion okay? I need to get back to them. To make this right. This happened because of me. It’s all my fault. Goddamn it.
I step out in front of Bear, bracing my hand on his heart to stop him from advancing.
“Don’t listen to her,” Bear says, his eyes turning dark. He pushes into my hand, but I hold firm, needing to hear what Jewel is going to say.
“Who?!” I ask, staring at Bear and flicking a glance back to Jewel, my oldest friend, the girl I saved.
“He’s the enforcer!” she yells, and the ground beneath me swallows me into the depths of hell.
