Chapter 11 Kara

Kara

It’s been a couple of weeks since I moved into my apartment, met Dean, and started my new job at Barlow Auto Repair.

Life has settled in, completely. Routines are in place between work, my relationship with Dean, and my brother being the softie he is, letting me bring Scout in the afternoons.

I secretly think it’s prolonging the process between Nellie and Sable ganging up on him to get a puppy of their own.

I’ve just returned from picking up Scout from Dean’s place.

Our routine is as follows: we pick one person’s place, then alternate nights.

Scout enjoys any place as long as he’s with his people.

In the morning, Dean comes home, and I head out.

Scout stays with him, and when I take a break for lunch to come home, I bring Scout back with me.

It also gives Dean and me nearly a full hour without any interruptions.

The first time I surprised him with lunch, the food was forgotten, and we landed in bed.

Needless to say, I ate on the way back to work with Scout safely secured in the backseat, listening to him howl.

He’s a food monster and will scrounge up any crumbs he can.

He’ll also beg for food, hoping his puppy eyes that are oh so cute will make you feed him.

Today was a little different. Dean texted me earlier, telling me he had a meeting with the big honcho guy today and wouldn’t be at the apartment. I still swung by, made a quick sandwich, and took Scout for a short walk before I loaded him up in the car and headed back to work.

“You’re back early. Everything okay?” Colt asks me as we make our way into the office, Scout’s feet tapping away, snout in the air, and tail wagging happy as can be.

“Yeah, Dean had a meeting, and I’ve got a huge stack of invoices to work through.

I might as well work.” I’m shocked Colt didn’t know already.

He and Dean talk like they’re best friends; they have a little bromance going on half the time.

My parents love Dean, too, as does Nellie, though I think that’s because he lets her do whatever she wants with Scout.

“Shit, that’s got trouble written all over it.” Colt changes the subject so abruptly that I have whiplash.

“What does? Dean’s meeting? I hope not.” I worry my bottom lip and unhook Scout from his leash once the door is closed behind me.

Mom and Dad had this area configured when we were little, an area to confine us while still giving us a place to play.

It’s since been used for Nellie when she was young, and it’s now in use for Scout.

“Nah, not that. Look outside.” Locke from Locke and Key Tow is in the parking lot, which isn’t an unusual sight. It’s the car on the flatbed that is.

“Oh shit, you think her brother knows yet?” I ask Colt as Jade slides out of the driver’s side. Locke’s hands are on her hips, and there’s a smile tugging at her lips.

“Not a chance in fucking hell. Those two are asking for trouble, no doubt about it.” Jade’s brother, Jace, is best friends with Locke. There’s also a bit of an age difference between them, and if I thought Colt was overprotective, well, he has nothing on Jace.

“You'd better get out there, or else something will happen in our parking lot, and Nellie is due to come back from school any minute now,” I tell him, moving closer to the computer.

“Fuck, that’s her car on the wrecker, too. Jace will be here in two minutes flat if he’s not already flying down the road on his bike.” Colt speaks from experience on this, probably because it wasn’t long ago that he’d do the exact same thing for me. If it weren’t for Dean, he probably still would.

“Great,” I say as Scout lets out a baroo of a howl.

“I’m outta here, and heads up, your man’s heading this way.

” Just as he says it, Dean is walking inside.

In his usual baseball cap, button down company shirt, jeans, and boots, he looks as delicious as usual.

My mouth waters, my spine tingles, and my insides quiver.

Every single time I’m around him, my body lights up, my heart races, and my eyes instantly lock on his.

“What’s up, Colt? Everything good?” he greets my brother, shaking his hand and slapping his back in that way only men do.

“Not much. Stick around. There’s bound to be fireworks. Might need help to break this up if I think what’s about to happen actually happens.” Colt raps his knuckles on the counter.

“I’ll be here,” Dean says, hand already wrapping around my upper shoulders and pulling me close, Then he’s dropping a kiss on me that I feel right between my thighs. It’s short and sweet but no less passionate, especially when he tugs at my long blonde hair before he pulls back and looks at me.

“Knock it off. That’s my sister.” Dean doesn’t stop. He kisses me again, ignoring my brother and his verbal rebuttal. He’ll have to get over it, because I’ll never stop kissing the man who means everything to me.

“Yeah, yeah,” Dean says against my lips, more to Colt than to anyone else.

I wait until I hear the door open and close before saying anything.

My hands go to his chest, fingers sinking into his shirt, feeling the heat rolling off him through the fabric.

The counter is really doing us a disservice right now.

If it weren’t for the big, bulky thing between us… damn it.

“Got some news to share with you, sweetheart,” Dean mumbles once the door is closed behind my brother.

“Oh yeah? What’s that?” I start to go around the counter, but he’s already heading my way.

The minute the latch is undone, Scout is jumping up, trying to help open it.

The Dutch-style door with only the bottom part attached has become Scout’s favorite thing.

He’ll jump so much only to get a glimpse of the outside world, tiring him out after he’s attempted to jump over it for a good thirty minutes.

“I’m back on days. No more crawling into bed when you’re crawling out.

No more call-outs on the weekends. And my company is picking up a contract here in town, and they want me as the lead project manager.

It’s a permanent position, only traveling as needed.

” I launch myself in his arms, wrap my legs around his waist, cup his cheeks with my hands, and let out a squeal of happiness.

Scout gets in on the mix, jumping up and down while barking.

“This is the best news ever!” I exclaim before Dean’s mouth attaches to mine again.

This is cause for celebration, though this isn’t necessarily the place to do the type of celebrating I’d like to do.

I can only imagine my brother walking in on us while I’m on my knees giving my man the blowjob of the century. Talk about a boner killer.

“Fuck yeah, it is. It’ll be even better when I get this off my chest.” Dean’s job is well known for traveling; it’s part of the life, and he forewarned me from the very beginning that it could mean they’d move him to another city or even state.

It was a hard pill to swallow, but I did, then put my big girl panties on and told him where he goes, I’ll go, if given the option.

“What’s that?” I ask. His hands paw the cheeks of my ass. The ridge of his cock slides along the seam of my pants, and I’m left with the only option. I slowly undulate my hips, and pleasure takes hold. We really might need to move this into the parts room.

“I love you, Kara. Been on my mind for some time now. Tired of thinking it might be too soon to tell you. So, I’m saying it now, putting it out there for you.

That means one day, you’ll have my ring, my last name, and as many dogs as you want.

” I’ve told Dean that I wasn’t sure if kids were something I wanted in my future.

He didn’t ask why, only said, “Whatever you want, wherever you want, it’s yours. ”

“I love you, too, Dean. I love you so, so much.” This time, he doesn’t let me get another word out. His mouth is on mine, our tongues are tangling, and the outside world melts away.

Until it doesn’t.

“Jesus, fuck, we’re all fucked. Jace is here, and he’s on a tear. Shit is about to hit the fan.” Dean lets me go, and I slide down the length of his body, an unfortunate occurrence because it does absolutely nothing to calm the raging inferno building inside of me.

“Umm, mind if I take the afternoon off?” I ask, not due to the fact that Jace is here and having a shit fit; that’s their own problem. I want my man, and I want him alone as soon as possible.

“Go on, get outta here. I’ll keep Scout until Nellie has her snack and does her homework, then we’ll drop him off,” Colt says in a tone that tells us to take it out of the shop and away from his eyes before things get too hot.

“Thanks, big brother. I owe you.” Dean laces his fingers with mine and leads the way out of the office. I don’t know how we’ll get home or in whose vehicle, but it doesn’t matter as long as we get there as soon as possible.
