Chapter Eight

“A couple of weeks ago ,” Nova paused, and a devastated expression crossed over her beautiful face. “Clement took me out to a club. I didn’t want to go, but I think she was afraid of leaving me alone.”

“Why?”

“I might have mentioned I wanted to join you,” Nova whispered, staring down as if ashamed to meet his gaze.

“Oh,” Mathias said, his voice hitching. He’d seen her dead, but the thought of her harming herself choked him up.

“So, she dragged me onto the dance floor, and I was half-heartedly dancing. Then this man came out of nowhere and started touching me. I didn’t like it. Wanted to know my name and if I wanted a date. I said no, and thought that was the end of it until he showed up at my work.”

“How did he find you?”

“He saw Clement’s license plate and traced me through her. He said he was rich and had a friend working in the police.”

Mathias gritted his teeth. He should’ve killed Marko as soon as he realized it was Nova on the gurney.

“He killed me,” Nova started, and her voice hitched.

She had to thickly swallow down her fright and pain.

“I left the library, and when I got to my car, he came up behind me and demanded to know why I lied to him. Then he started choking me, so I tried to knee him in the balls. All that did was make him angry. He backhanded me, and down I went, hitting my head.”

She absently touched her neck. Mathias didn’t think she was conscious of it, lost in the memories of what happened to her. He desperately wished he could absorb that trauma from her.

“I was so scared,” Nova admitted, her voice trembling. “I remember ... I remember ... oh god. All that kept rolling around in my mind was that he was killing me. At first, I thought I didn’t want to die, but then it seemed the universe was giving me permission to do exactly that.”

“Oh, baby, no.”

“I didn’t care.” Nova sniffed and blinked rapidly. “Are you sure I’m not dead now? That we aren’t together somewhere?”

“Maybe we are,” Mathias said, giving her a faint smile. “If that’s the case, may we never wake up.”

She leaned forward, pressing her forehead against his. “I love you so much, Mathias. I don’t care how it happened or about whatever superpower you have. I never want to be without you.”

He cupped the back of her head, careful of her bruises.

“I was given a chance to fade away or join the Necromancer Brotherhood. I wanted a second chance with you, so I agreed. It took me a while to learn everything I had to learn and break away from them. I was just about to come to you when that dickhead called me up.”

“Where is he?” Nova asked, sitting up to gaze around, as if that weasel was about to jump out of the shadows.

“I told him to return tomorrow,” Mathias replied. “So, that gives us about twenty-three hours to figure out what to do.”

“This is so unbelievable,” she mused, cupping his face. “It’s just too fantastical.”

“Tell me about it. I’ve brought people back to life , Nova.” He shook his head in amazement. “This is real. It’s magic.”

Mathias stood and scooped her up bridal style. She threw her arms around his neck, staring at him as he took her to his bathroom.

“I prayed I’d see you again,” she murmured. “I’m so happy.”

“Me too, baby. And we’re going to figure out how to deal with that asswipe tomorrow. Tonight, however, it’s about us. I need you, and I think you need me.”

“I do,” Nova confirmed.

“Can you stand?”

Nova nodded.

“Why don’t you take a shower. There was a lot of gook I put on you in order to cement your soul back in your body.”

“I can’t believe I’m not even blinking at that.”

Mathias kissed her forehead. “Go ahead and—”

“Will you shower with me?”

It had been so long since he’d touched her that his body immediately went rock hard. There was no way he’d turn her down.

“W e don’t have to do anything,” Mathias whispered.

“I’ve been dreaming of you for a while,” Nova whispered back. Then she dropped the sheet.

His hot gaze perused her up, down, and then slowly traveled back up again.

Intense longing heavy in his blue eyes. With quick movements, he pulled his clothes off then banded an arm around her waist, pulling her into his body.

Warm breath brushed against her lips as he bent his head to claim her mouth in a deep, hungry kiss.

They were two halves of a whole. Two souls so deeply intertwined that they couldn’t be separated.

Not even death could part them.

Taking a step back, the hot water sluiced over her skin, filling the shower with steam.

She pulled him with her under the spray as he captured her mouth, sliding his tongue in to dance with hers, in a kiss that ignited a fire in her blood.

God, she had missed him. Missed his touch.

His smile. The way he held her, loved her.

She had been a woman starved and had just been given a banquet.

Mathias took the soap and lathered up before sliding his hands over her body, starting at her shoulders and caressing his way down.

Carefully over her collarbone and down to her breasts.

Rolling the hard little buds between his thumb and fingers created a pulsing need deep in her pussy, and she moaned.

The slick soap ran down her hips, and his hand slid between her thighs.

His searching fingers found her clit, and pleasure burst through her.

A desperate hunger took hold, and she arched her body into the caress, wanting more.

Their lips met, the kiss deepening to touch her soul. She knew how good it could be, how good it always was between them. Need flooded her body, and she ached to have him inside her.

“I need you,” Nova moaned. “Please.”

Staring at her, he reached around her body and turned off the water.

Then he slid his hands down to cup her butt and lifted her.

His muscles bulged as he held her, and surprise had her wrap her legs around his waist to help keep her steady.

Mathias carried her from the shower to the bed, and he didn’t stop until he tumbled her onto the mattress.

Leaning over, he slid a knee between her legs and propped himself up on his arms. Kissing her mouth, her neck, sucking on her earlobe. Wrecking her. Leaving her panting for more. Nova needed to feel his skin slide against hers. It was hot. Wet. Wild. Every time blew her mind.

How could he make her want him so much with a single touch?

As he rose over her, their gazes met and locked, and the sliver of moonlight trickling through the window gave illumination so she could see desire blazing in his eyes.

His fingertips traveled upward until they reached her breasts.

Arching her back and thrusting more into his hands he kissed her again. Tongues dancing. Breaths mingling.

Then he moved slowly down her body. Quickly drawing each nipple into his mouth to gently bite each one.

They’d always been her weak point, the pulse that echoed in her pussy.

She threw her head back as he moved to pry her legs apart, his fingers sliding up her thighs to find her dripping cunt.

One finger pushed through her slit, into her core, and her hips undulated.

Her natural lubricant eased his tender invasion, pumping in and out just as he leaned forward to bury his face in her pussy to suck her sensitive clit.

Nova cried out, and her fingers curled into his hair as she began to thrust against his face, in time with his fingers and tongue that fucked her.

Her orgasm rose sharply, and she cried out as she splintered apart.

He continued his assault to draw every drop of pleasure from her, until she gave a little shudder and went limp.

“Mathias,” she said a bit breathlessly. “That was incredible.”

He kissed his way back up her body until he found her mouth again.

“You’re so beautiful,” he murmured.

She pushed against his shoulders until he lay on his back and she looked him up and down. “I love you.”

With a wicked little grin, she took hold of his dick and licked the bead of moisture at the tip.

He moaned and buried his hands in her hair, holding her as she kissed the hot skin at the base of the shaft.

Taking her sweet time to enjoy it before he bucked his hips as if demanding attention.

So, she slipped her mouth around the head and wrapped her lips around him, going up and down slowly.

Each thrust took him deeper, relaxing her throat to deep throat him.

Little by little, she increased the tempo, speeding up.

One of her favorite things to do was to drive him crazy.

Mathias’s body twitched under the restraint he was holding onto.

“Fuck, Nova,” he grunted. “You give the best head.”

With obvious reluctance, he broke the seal of her mouth. She looked up at him through her lashes, knowing her lips glistened with saliva. His hands slid up her thighs and had her straddle him, lining his cock directly with her open slit.

“You’re mine,” he repeated, taking hold of himself as she rose and sank onto him.

Because she was too aroused and too far gone, she immediately bounced on his dick.

Lost in a haze of pleasure, she rode him fast. Chasing her peak.

Then it crashed through her, and she let out a breathless moan, vaguely aware he joined her.

Coming deep inside her. Their hearts thundered together as their frantic movements slowed.

Then she collapsed, and he folded her into his arms as she rested her head on his chest.

“I love you so much,” Mathias murmured as he ran his fingers through her hair. “We’ll never part again.”

“What are we going to do about him ?” Nova asked, hating the thread of fear that entered her voice. “I don’t think he’s going to leave me alone.”

“I have a confession,” Mathias said, dreading this talk. “Remember that Brotherhood I mentioned?”

She nodded.

“To have a clean break from them, I agreed to do one job. That job had me switching souls from an old dying man to a young healthy body. That man was Marko.”

Nova pushed up to look at him. “Whoa.”

“We’re going to make sure he can’t ever stalk you again.” He thought for a moment, then the answer dropped into his lap. “And I have the perfect idea how.”
