Epilogue
Declan
“Why are you switching the beds? Yours is broken.” Ethan grunted as we carried the bed from my old bedroom up the stairs to the master bedroom.
“It has sentimental value.” Chloe’s voice floated down the stairs. “And don’t you dare fix that footboard.”
“I don’t think I want to know any more.” He shook his head, his brown hair, longer on top, flopping over his eyes. He blew it out of the way with a puff of air. “So glad your new bedroom is soundproofed.”
We placed the bed where Chloe indicated. She grinned, winking at me. “Me too. I won’t have to try to be quiet anymore.”
“No way you’ve been trying to be quiet.” Ethan held his hands in the air, backing away. “Again, I don’t want to know. Need anything else before I head out?”
“I think we’re good.” Chloe eyed him suspiciously. “You’ve been gone a lot lately. What’s up?”
His gaze darted to the stairs. “Nothing. Just been busy.”
“Did you meet someone?” Chloe kept questioning him, her curiosity roused. “Maybe your mate?”
“When I meet my mate, you’ll know.” He edged closer to the exit.
“Hmm.” Chloe tapped her chin, a hint of a smile at the corner of her lips. “Is it a surprise?”
“Yes. A surprise.” He nodded, but there was a seriousness to his expression that was seldom present. “One that will be worth the wait.” He reached the door and turned, rushing down the stairs as he called over his shoulder. “So stop asking.”
“Something’s definitely up with your brother. I’ve never seen him so serious.” Chloe sighed as she went back to putting our clothes away in the dresser. “I hope he’s okay.”
“He’s taken on more responsibility with the ranch. Mae almost didn’t call him a boy the other day.” I slid my arms around her waist and pressed a kiss against my mark on her neck. “I think he’s finally growing up.”
She tilted her head back to look up at me. “I hope that’s all it is. I can’t help worrying there’s something else going on.”
“We’ll keep an eye on him. But enough about Ethan.” I turned her around, pulling her in closer with a grin. “It’s our first night in our new bedroom. How should we celebrate?”
“Let me think…” She spoke slowly, dragging the words out as if she wasn’t sure of the answer. “We could finish unpacking?”
I shook my head, sliding my hand beneath the hem of her shirt.
“How about hanging pictures on the walls?”
I unhooked her bra and cupped her breasts with my hands, loving the weight of them against my palms.
“I know,” she said. “We could rearrange the furniture.”
I tugged at her nipples, and her breath caught.
Her eyes drifted shut as her teeth caught her lower lip in their hold.
She huffed out a breath and arched her back, pushing her breasts harder into my hands.
“We could…we could…Oh, screw it. Let’s tie you to the bed and see if we can break the headboard too. ”
Laughter burst out of me as she grabbed my hand and dragged me across the room.
One thing about Chloe. Life with her would never be predictable. And I wouldn’t have it any other way.
