Chapter 38

Chapter Thirty-Eight

CYRUS

With the tavern currently unusable, we’re piled into the war room on the ship. Half the crew are out looking for Hago, the other half are cleaning up the mess back at the tavern.

After Tally confirmed it to be Hago’s cloak, it confirmed he’s involved. Or someone is framing him, but from the way he jumped ship the first chance he could, instead of staying to defend himself, I doubt it's a framing.

Tally has gone from numb to explosive.

The moment she figured out the cloak, and things came into a clearer picture for her, a match was lit.

Not only did she come back to herself, but she became volatile.

She barked orders and got some of her people out searching for Hago too.

Then was threatening anyone that may possibly harbour any secrets.

Now that we're on the ship, she’s wearing a path into the wood, pacing back and forth, whilst she mutters threats into the void.

I won’t lie, seeing her amped up and ready to fight is really hot.

I don’t ever blush, but watching her get angry and scowl and threaten, is apparently such a huge turn on, that I keep flushing.

Imagine what she’d do to me in the bedroom in this mood?

I wince, I need to apologise and grovel and do a grand declaration of love before even considering getting her back in the bedroom. It’s not fair to her to only use her for sex. Not now that we both know there’s more to both of us.

It’s been hours since Hago disappeared, the night falling away behind us. Nothing else is going to happen tonight, we have people searching for him and the rest of his demented troop. We need to rest and trust our crews to find them.

Tally needs to rest.

Amara and Mabel cleared out a while ago— Mabel unable to keep her eyes open any longer. Now the first rays of daybreak are peaking over the horizon.

Making my way across the room, I saddle up next to her. “Tally, you need to rest.”

She spins to face me, gaze snapping to mine in a glare. “I’ll rest when that little fucker is caught and paying for what he put me through.”

Sighing, I place my palm on her cheek. “No good will come from wearing yourself thin. You need your energy for when we do find him.” She scoffs but listens. “Besides, we’ll be the first to know when they're caught, so you might as well rest until we hear something.”

She grumbles, pouting and crossing her arms over her chest, actively throwing a temper tantrum. It’s cute. Funny. She’s acting like a toddler not getting their way. It’s tempting to throw her over my shoulder and carry her to my room and make her rest.

I don’t, but the temptation rises higher and her grumpy eyes flick to me, her lips falling into a deeper pout. I need to put my hands on her. I want to touch her.

She lets out an exhale, blowing her lips as she does. Then throws her arms out and shrugs her shoulders. Full petulance.

“Fine. Whatever.”

Grinning, I grab her swinging hand, clasping it in mine. I can tell she wants to ask questions; I don’t give her the option to, as I start leading her towards my quarters. Not caring who sees me dragging her along behind me.

It’s not a far walk, and Tally’s been here before, she knows exactly where we’re going.

When we reach the heavy wooden door that leads to my room, I pull Tally in front of me before opening it and allowing her to enter before me.

It’s only once I enter too, it hits me.

There’s only one bed in here. It’s more than big enough for both of us, but will she want to share a bed with me?

When she fell asleep with me after her meltdown, that was different. She needed comfort and the rest after falling apart. Right now, she’s back to her senses and is completely within her right to tell me to fuck off.

“You take the bed. I can sleep on the floor, if you want.”

She’s quiet for a little too long, and I start to wonder if I’ve just fucked up even more.
