Chapter Twenty-Nine #2

“Good.” She pulled back just enough to grin at him, her eyes sparking with mischief.

“Because, since this is the first time we’ve had sex without a condom.

..” She trailed off as her fingers drifted down to press against his stomach.

Her voice dropped to a whisper. “And I have to tell you, feeling that hot spurt that’s all you, is freaking fantastic.

” She frowned. “Where was I? Oh, yes... no condom, so, you’re stuck with me. ”

Rex went still. His brow furrowed as his grip on her tightened just a fraction. “Meaning?”

She shrugged, the movement deliberately nonchalant, like she wasn’t dropping a bomb in the middle of his carefully constructed world.

“I might be pregnant.” She paused, letting the words hang in the air before adding, “And since I’m not about to raise a child alone, and I firmly believe every kid deserves two parents who actually give a damn.

..” She smirked, her fingers tapping against his chest. “Congratulations, Mr. Oliver. You’re officially trapped. ”

Rex’s expression didn’t change. Not at first. Then—slowly, like a storm gathering on the horizon—his face darkened.

“Xia.” His voice was low and dangerous. A tone that usually made people back the hell up. “What about Hawaii? Your job?”

She rolled her eyes, pushing herself up with a dramatic sigh.

Her body was gloriously, unapologetically naked as she sauntered over to his desk.

She plucked a wipe from the container, cleaning herself with the kind of ease that suggested she was completely unbothered by the fact that she was standing in the middle of his office, bare as the day she was born.

“Why are you so fixated on Hawaii?” she asked, tossing the wipe into the trash before turning back to him, her hips swaying as she leaned against the desk.

She crossed her arms, which only served to push her breasts up, and Rex’s eyes flickered—just for a second—before he forced them back to her face.

“That job would make your career,” he said, his voice tight. “Axel is one of the best employers in the industry. He already told you he saw you as CEO material.”

Xia snorted, pushing off the desk and strolling back toward him, her heels muted on the thick carpet. She stopped just in front of him. Her fingers trailed down his chest before she leaned in to brush her lips over his ear.

“I do hope to get there one day,” she murmured. “But right now? I’m concentrating on getting the New Orleans Aloha Resort Casino off the ground and marketing the living shit out of it.”

Rex’s jaw clenched. “You’re... you haven’t walked away from the job?”

“Of course, I didn’t.” She pulled back, her eyes gleaming. “But I did have a very enlightening conversation with Axel.”

Rex went very, very still. “What conversation?”

She smiled in that slow and wicked way that seemed to fascinate the hell out of him.

“I told him that since he appointed me, it was because I was the best person for the job—not because I needed a babysitter.” She tilted her head.

Her voice dropped to a purr. “I also made it very clear that if he forced me to choose between the job and the man I love...” She paused, her smile turning razor sharp.

“He’d better start looking for a replacement. ”

Rex’s breath hitched. His eyes darkened, and his hands flexed on his lap like he wasn’t sure whether to pull her closer or shake some sense into her.

“Xia.”

She ignored the warning in his voice, stepping back and striking a pose—one leg slightly bent, her hand on her hip, her body arched just enough to make sure he couldn’t look away.

“Men can be so dumb sometimes.” Her voice was light and teasing, but her eyes were serious. “And the cleverer they are, the dumber they get when it comes to matters of the heart.”

Rex didn’t move. Didn’t breathe.

Xia softened, her smile fading into something warmer and deeper. She stepped closer and traced the rigid line of his jaw with one finger.

“I started falling in love with you the first day I walked into this office,” she whispered.

“And by the time that plane touched down in New Orleans after the cage scene, I was in love with you. Fully and completely yours.” Her voice cracked—just a little—but she didn’t look away.

“You’re in my heart, Rex. With every beat.

With every breath.” She swallowed. Her eyes glimmered.

“I don’t want a life without you in it. I can’t even imagine one.

” She paused, her lips curving into a smile that was soft, sure, and completely unshakable.

“I am yours. In every way you need me. In every way you want me.” She leaned in, her lips brushing his. “If you want me.”

Rex didn’t speak. Not at first. Then—slowly, like a man who had just been handed the world and wasn’t quite sure what to do with it—his hands came up, cupping her face.

Gently, as if she was fragile porcelain, he brushed away the single tear trailing over her cheek.

He stared at her, as if he was afraid she might disappear.

“Xia,” he said in a rough, broken voice.

Her chest ached at the pain in his eyes.

“I spent the past four months convincing myself I was doing the right thing.” His throat worked as his eyes searched hers.

“I knew I wasn’t good enough for you and that you deserved better.

That you deserved a life without me in it.

” His voice dropped, raw with emotion. “But the whole time, all I could think about was you.” His hands trembled, just slightly, as he pulled her closer.

“But I was empty... there was a hole in my chest where my heart was supposed to be. You’re it, Xia.

My heart. I missed you. God, I missed you so fucking much.

” His forehead pressed against hers, his breath warm against her lips.

“I love you.” The words were simple, quiet, but devastating to her needy heart. “I love you more than I’ve ever loved anything or anyone in my life.” His voice broke. “And if you think for one second I’m letting you walk out of this building without me, you’re out of your fucking mind.”

Xia’s heart stopped. Then kicked back into gear, slamming against her ribs like it was trying to break free. She laughed, the sound of pure joy as she wrapped her arms around his neck, holding on like he was the only thing keeping her grounded.

“You absolute idiot,” she whispered. “I was never leaving.”

Rex groaned as he pulled her back onto his lap. His mouth took hers in a hot and desperate possession with his tongue sliding against hers like he was trying to brand her from the inside out.

Xia melted into him. Her body arched against his as she kissed him back with a depth of emotion that left him with no doubt that he owned her... body, heart, and soul.

When he finally pulled away, his breath was ragged, and his eyes dark with need. “Come here,” he growled as his hands slid down to her ass, lifting her effortlessly.

Xia wrapped her legs around his waist, her smile blinding. “Make me.”

Rex groaned, his cock already hard again, pressing against her.

“Oh, I intend to.” His voice roughened with promise.

“Just to make sure you are pregnant.” His hands tightened on her hips as his lips trailed down her neck.

“And I’m going to keep your belly filled with my babies, so you’ll never run away from me. ”

Xia giggled. Her head tilted to the side as he nipped at her collarbone.

“No chance of that,” she gasped. “You’re stuck with me.” Her fingers tightened around his neck as she vowed. “For now. And always.”

Rex smiled happily as he cupped her breasts. She gasped as his thumbs feathered over her nipples.

“Good,” he murmured. “Because I’m never letting you go, especially since you, my little wife whisperer, got me the Mrs. Perfect I needed in my life.”

And then he proved it.

Again.

And again.

And again.
