12. CHAPTER #3
“Breathe.” Mr. Heiss lowered Indy’s leg as he gently pulled out of him. His expression was soft and calm, and his wings vanished away quietly. He stretched out beside Indy and lightly caressed his chest, murmuring again, “Breathe.”
The passing motions of Mr. Heiss’s fingers were as hypnotic as his command, and it seemed to soothe the frantic rise and fall of Indy’s chest as he tried to get the oxygen he needed to keep from passing out.
It was grounding as well, reminding Indy that this was real and not some other magical universe, even if it felt like that’s where his soul had been cast off to.
Indy’s breathing settled, his skin cooled, and he shivered.
“Here.” Mr. Heiss snapped his fingers, the usually sharp sound softened by Indy’s overstimulated brain.
Warmth washed over Indy like an oddly moist summer breeze. The feeling passed, and he was now clean and dry, though the aches of their intense coupling remained. He flopped onto his back to smirk up at Mr. Heiss. “Pretty handy. You’ll have to teach me that one.”
Mr. Heiss smirked right back. “No.”
“Fine, be an asshole.”
“Sort of my thing.”
“Really?” Indy gasped. “I hadn’t noticed.”
“Ass.” Mr. Heiss rolled his eyes, but he leaned in to kiss Indy’s lips.
Indy wanted to snipe and make another sarcastic comment, but Mr. Heiss’s kisses were more effective at shutting him up than they had any right to be.
Indy promptly returned to puddle mode, and he smiled as Mr. Heiss gathered him against his chest to cuddle.
Though Indy remained nude, Mr. Heiss now wore a perfectly pressed white T-shirt and black silk pajama pants.
Of course.
“Guess King was right,” Indy murmured, resting his head on Mr. Heiss’s chest and closing his eyes.
Mr. Heiss scoffed. “When did this happen?”
“About two becoming one and all that.” Indy hummed and, in case Mr. Heiss had forgotten, clarified, “Us fucking.”
Mr. Heiss snorted, a sound Indy was coming to understand was one of his little laughs. “I didn’t need a magical skull to tell me that. Besides, he isn’t always right.”
“He’s three for four right now.” Indy raised his fingers to count. “He knew where to find the Artifact.”
“Yes, but not that it was going to be attached to you.” Mr. Heiss rolled his eyes, and his tail lashed. “His magical vision decidedly left that detail out.”
“He predicted those mostri assholes coming after me.”
“Which was self-fulfilling because you would have been fine had you stayed where I told you to.”
“Okay, but ha! He was also right about your dick and my ass.”
“And as I said, that was inevitable.” Mr. Heiss curled his thick arm around Indy, idly tracing lazy patterns across his skin with his claws.
Indy batted his lashes. “Because I’m so irresistible?”
“Persistent.”
“And irresistible.”
“Annoyingly so.”
“I’ll take it.” Indy snickered.
Mr. Heiss grinned wickedly. “And take it you do. So very well.”
Indy would have blushed if his face wasn’t still so hot. He felt a bubble of warmth anyway, and he preened. “Well, I am a professional after all.”
“Mm.” Mr. Heiss glanced over him. “How are you feeling? Hurting anywhere?”
“No, I’m fine. What about—” Indy looked at Mr. Heiss’s chest, but the cuts were already gone. Indy’s nail had also been repaired. “So.” His grin grew. “Someone likes a bit of pain with their pleasure?”
“Excuse me for a moment,” Mr. Heiss murmured before pressing a kiss to the top of Indy’s head.
“What?” Indy blinked as he watched Mr. Heiss get out of bed. He took the opportunity to stretch and take up as much space as possible, yawning. “And here I was looking forward to all that pillow talk.”
Mr. Heiss made a face. “I am going to get a drink. What would you like?”
“Can’t you just, like, summon shit?” Indy lifted his head.
“Would you like something or not?”
“Okay, fine. Yes.”
“What?”
“Dr Pepper and Captain Morgan?”
“All right.”
Indy wiggled enticingly as he cooed, “Thank you!”
Mr. Heiss grimaced and walked out of the room, shaking his head as if irritated. As he turned to go down the hall, however brief he was visible, Indy saw he was smiling.
Alone now, Indy was left with his thoughts and the lingering throb between his legs. He had certainly expected the sex, but not for it to be so damn good. Mr. Heiss had surprised him in more ways than one, and Indy wasn’t sure what to think.
It had felt… real.
No, that was fucking stupid.
Mr. Heiss had simply wanted a hot hole to play with and Indy had wanted his hot hole played with, and that was that.
The tension between them was nothing more than the desire of two very attractive people wanting to get off.
Plus, there was still the very real danger of dying before Indy could figure out how to cure himself.
If he was a good lay, maybe Mr. Heiss wouldn’t be as inclined to murder him and take the ring.
Now that Indy was thinking about it, it had been a while since Mr. Heiss had mentioned it.
There was no way he had forgotten about the Artifact, but certainly hours had passed since Mr. Heiss last brought it up.
Even longer since his last threat of bodily harm.
And he had come to save Indy.
And kissed him right there on the battlefield.
And the things they’d shared, the way he’d touched Indy and held him so close, there might be—no.
No.
Indy crashed that dangerous train of thought before it could leave the station.
Mr. Heiss wanted the ring and anything else was merely an unexpected bonus of living to see another day.
After all, Indy was only playing nice because he didn’t want to die, and survival only happened if Mr. Heiss was able to remove the ring.
Once Indy was finally free of Mr. Heiss’s hospitality, he and Gammy could continue working on curing his cancer for good and forget all about this.
Forget all about Mr. Heiss…
Raph.
Fuck.
Even now, Indy didn’t trust that Mr. Heiss wouldn’t somehow use his disease against him to get control of the Artifact.
He had to keep his secret, and he would not hesitate to do whatever it took to survive.
It wasn’t his fault that whatever included having sex with an incredibly hot and kinky demon who was surprisingly kind and funny and…
Fuck.
Indy could not catch feelings for a monster.
He couldn’t. He still had a job to get back to, a comfortably numb life of excess and binging reality television, and an empty future of expecting absolutely nothing so he’d never be let down by anyone ever again.
It was fine. It was fine because it meant he’d be alive.
That was enough.
Right?
