CHAPTER 42 FIZ

FIZ

It’s safe to say this house is one big eggshell on the edge of cracking the whole place in two.

I went back up to my little brunette last night and filled her little pussy up three times, picturing Elodie the entire time.

Then the sun came up, and I kicked her out.

I assumed Elodie would have been busy with Caden, but when I went to have a little peep and saw her riding the fuck out of Alfie’s face, I was more delighted than I expected.

She is a cheeky little minx. And Alfie’s a lot braver than I thought.

I was expecting it to come to blows last night between the two of them, but this whole situation has been exhausting, so it’s no surprise.

No girl has ever come between any of us, this is unfamiliar territory for all of us.

I was pleased that Caden kept his head screwed on and didn’t lose it.

No one’s worth splintering us. We’re better than that.

Maybe he had his way with her in the woods before she hopped on Alf anyway. I’m still yet to learn the details.

Maggie’s got a feast of a breakfast set up for us. It’s later than usual, knowing we’re all probably hungover or exhausted. The house is already clean when I come down, Maggie would have had an entire crew here from the crack of dawn to get it disinfected.

I’m the first one down, not having got a lick of sleep yet.

I suspect I’ll be sleeping until sundown later.

No work for the next couple days, we all get to refresh and relax for a while after a gruelling forty days, and I cannot wait to dive back into my vices.

I’m the least interested in this bullshit than everyone else.

I suppose that’s stemmed from not being an official Blackwood or just part of this world in general.

Another thing that sets me apart from all the people I call family.

I get the dogs fed and wait at the table for the others. Alfie comes first, wearing nothing but a pair of grey shorts. Blonde hair dishevelled and eyes puffy.

He heads straight for the coffee machine.

“Morning, sunshine,” I say.

He grunts in response.

“How was the nut in the end?”

He huffs. “Very underwhelming.”

I chuckle. I know the brown-haired girl Alfie had swept up downstairs left the house, and there were no girls left available by the time we all went back up to bed. “Shower or bed?”

“Shower. So I could wash away the shame at the same time.”

I burst into laughter. He laughs too, despite himself. He takes his seat next to mine when Caden walks in, looking just as broody as he did last night.

He plops down in his seat at the head of the table and scrubs his face roughly. This is probably the worst we’ve all looked after a hunt. All because of one girl. What the fuck’s happening to us?

We’re just about to dive into breakfast when movement in the corner of my eye makes me look up from my plate of sausages.

“Well, well, well, good morning, Sleeping Beauty.”

She’s standing in the doorway, hugging herself, looking timid and sleepy.

The boys look at her too, but Alfie only spares her a quick glance over his shoulder before looking back down at his plate. Sheesh, the awkwardness is tangible.

“Is there enough for me?” she asks quietly.

I gesture to the mountain of food in the middle of the table. “If you’re quick.”

She trudges over and drops into her seat opposite me. She doesn’t look at Alfie or Caden. She flashes me her usual scowl and then helps herself to some pastries.

You could slice through this tension with a damn machete. Guess it’s up to good old Fiz to break the ice once again.

“How did you sleep?”

She glares at me. “Wonderful. After being chased, assaulted and shackled.”

I bite down on my growing smile. “Seems like the end of all that made up for it, though.” I wink.

She rolls her eyes. I chuckle.

I turn to Caden. “You two lovebirds have fun in the woods, then?”

His eyes darken. “Absolutely not.”

I frown. “You didn’t fuck her?”

“God, no.”

I drop my fork. “Seriously?” I look between him and Alf and let my smirk grow. “So, you’re telling me I’m the only one who got their first nut in some glorious pussy last night?”

Elodie scoffs opposite me.

“Don’t,” Caden warns, “I’m not in the mood this morning.”

“Well, obviously.” I revel in this new knowledge. “This is wonderful news.”

Alf slaps my shoulder. “Come on, Fiz, not now.”

I look over to Elodie, who’s watching the other two, and I wonder if she can sense the separate tension between them, if she knows it’s because of her. If she could even begin to understand the enormity of achieving that.

“If not now, when?” I say in a whimsical tone, “If not her, who?” I reach a hand up as if calling to the skies, “If not pussy, why not ass?”

Alfie breaks out in a chuckle, Caden rolls his eyes. I swear I can see Elodie fighting off a grin, too.

She quickly sobers up, fiddles with a sausage on her plate, and sighs.

“What’s up, Sleeping Beauty?”

Her eyes flicker to Alfie, then Caden. Finally, she says, very quietly, “So, what does this change?”

Caden huffs impatiently. “It could change everything. It’s up to you where we go from here, Elodie, it’s in your hands now. Like I keep saying.”

I lick my teeth. Caden’s too stubborn to change his attitude towards Elodie without a little sign of change in her first. No doubt it’s the same vice versa.

Elodie drops the sausage. “If you’re nice, I’ll be nice.”

Caden gives a patronising snort. “I tried to be nice. You must show me some intention of behaving now before you get Mr Nice Guy again.”

“Nice?” Elodie shoots to her feet, rage steaming off her. I hold my breath. “I’m so sick of you acting as if there was a single moment where you were nice. If I’m staying here, you don’t touch me without permission, you don’t take anything from me. Only then will I consider being nice to you.”

Caden’s on his feet now, too. Me and Alf stiffen in our seats.

“You will not order me about in my own house.” He points a steady finger at her.

“I will do with you as I please, when I please. You will be my wife, Elodie, don’t forget what the end goal is here.

Or did you already block out what we did last night?

I can happily remind you.” He sneers at her.

Elodie’s bottom lip only wobbles for a second before she sucks it in, eyes narrowing in on Cade. “Did you already forget what I said to you? I’d rather die. You won’t put a baby in me, Caden. I’ll make sure of it.”

Alfie’s leg’s bobbing wildly underneath the table. I look to him, but he doesn’t meet my gaze.

Caden smirks, full of menace and evil intent. “Unfortunately, there’s absolutely nothing you can do about that.”

Elodie gets a smug look on her face and she crosses her arms. “Oh yeah?”

Alf goes completely still beside me. He still won’t look at anyone but Elodie.

Caden raises his head, looks down his nose at her. “Yes. Or is there something I should know? Do you have a coat hanger ready or something?”

She just smirks, smug and proud, and devious. Holy shit.

This irks him, a darkness coming into his eyes that’s full of contempt. He inches towards her, she backs away.

“Don’t you fucking touch me.”

Caden grabs her by the arm and yanks her forward. She whacks his chest, slaps his face, but he’s a brick wall. “What are you planning, Elodie?”

She pushes roughly against his chest, swearing at him. “Don’t worry your pretty little head about that, Master.”

Cade clenches his jaw, lips pulling back. It’s taking everything in him not to explode. Finally, he shoves her away. “Get out of my sight.”

She does without a blink, dashing out of the room.

Cade slumps back down in his seat, rubbing his eyes. “I can’t do this shit. I cannot go through this again and again.”

Me and Alf remain silent. For once, I’m lost for words.

“What the fuck was she even talking about? You think she’s on some sort of birth control?” He looks expectedly at us, like we have the damn answers.

Alf’s face is strained, his leg back to bouncing vigorously under the table.

“She said she’d kill herself,” Cade says under his breath, drumming his fingers on the table. “In the woods. She said if I got her pregnant, she’d kill herself. Do you think she really would?”

Alfie leans forward, elbows on the table, head in his hands.

Me and Cade exchange a confused look.

“Alf?” Caden says.

Alf throws his hands up. “It’s not my fault, alright?” He whips his head up and points an accusatory finger at Cade. “You fucked her up so much last night.”

Caden’s face goes cold. “What are you talking about?”

Alf sighs, shakes his head. “She asked me to get her the pill.”

I puff out my cheeks, look down at my plate, knowing this is way past my tension-cutting abilities.

“She what?” Cade says, deathly calm. “Did you give it to her?”

“Not yet.”

“And are you going to?”

Alf squares his shoulders, legs falling still again. “Yes, I am. Higgins had someone deliver it last night.”

Caden licks his teeth, nods slightly. “I see. Choosing her over me. Doing what she wants you to do. Told you she’s got you wrapped around her finger.”

Alfie shoots to his feet, knocking the huge table forward an inch.

“No, Caden. It’s nothing to do with that.

You two are not ready to have a child. Having a child shouldn’t be some fucked-up way to control someone.

It’s not a weapon. It’s a fucking human being.

A helpless, innocent little thing. You think I’m going to let you create one of those things in the relationship you two have now?

That kid wouldn’t stand a chance of a normal life. ”

I curl my lips down. He has a point.

Caden is unnaturally still.

Alf takes a deep breath in, puffing out his massive chest. “If it is in my power, I will not, ever, let you get her pregnant. It’s not a weapon, it’s not a toy, it’s not a way to control someone.

You think making her have your baby will make her bow to you?

Worship you? What are you even expecting?

You think she’d even love it if it came from this exhausting, relentless hate between the two of you?

” He leans forward, pointing a shaking finger at his cousin.

“Wake the fuck up. I’m not choosing you – or her – I’m choosing what’s right.

” He pushes his chair out the way, making it clatter to the floor.

“I’m going to give her the pill now, and you won’t do shit about it.

Think about what the fuck I just said, what the fuck you’re playing at, and grow the fuck up. ”

He marches out the room, leaving a stench of heavy clarity stinking up the room.

Gees.

Even I’m uncomfortable now.

I watch Caden carefully, wondering what’s going on in that head of his.

Finally, he slowly rises, so I do too.

He holds out a hand. “I want to be alone for a minute.”

“Cade,” I try.

“Please.” He fixes me with those green eyes of his, drowning in sorrow. “Just a minute.”

I fall back into my chair and let him leave the room.

I push back my curls, ruffle them, and blow out a long breath.

This wasn’t what I had in mind when Caden won the bet. She hates him more than ever now. And somehow, she’s managed to wedge herself between Alf and Caden. I think I’ll be making myself very scarce for the next few days.
