Chapter 16

EDGE

I leaned against the weathered porch post outside the clubhouse, phone pressed to my ear, eyes scanning the horizon as I listened to Crow on the other end.

“She’s here,” Crow whispered. “Swear to God, Edge. I heard the nurse say her name. Snapped a photo. Sent it to you.”

I tapped into my texts and stared at the grainy image. There she was—Skye. Sitting in the hospital lounge looking hollowed out and weary, like a woman who’d run a thousand miles only to find herself in the same damn place she started.

I exhaled, long and low. “Damn.”

Fox’s voice came faint through the line. “She’s got a guy with her. Leaning in. Real familiar.”

My eyes narrowed. “JD’s not gonna like that.”

Crow chuckled bitterly. “You think?”

I ended the call and hit JD’s name on speed dial. My gut twisted, because this wasn’t gonna be easy.
