Icannot believe that spirit slayer still draws breath. That Fanqing, who does she think she is that she actually spoke that way? And it was all because of him.

I huff a frustrated breath, wrapping my tail around myself as if that can comfort me from the humiliation I have suffered. I am thankful for the solitude of the night as I drift high in the clouds while Fanqing sleeps below. Now is the only time that I can properly vent my frustrations.

To choose him over me.

I am a great and wily creature, wiser than a thousand-year-old sage, and knowledgeable in forgotten and forbidden arts. I am a dragon.

And he’s just some elf who is good with a sword.

What was she thinking?

I suppose I cannot fault her; she clearly doesn’t remember the connection we share.

Still, I will stay by her side, offering her magic until either she remembers me or our bond is even stronger than before.

And if I happen to plot a way to get that annoying spirit slayer out of the way without Fanqing finding out I was the one behind it…well, so much the better.

I can’t help but smile as I consider it.
