29. Four #2

“I’ve been trying, but I’m being transferred. They are going to be on their own. I mean yeah, they got their cousins, and Nine is there. But, Robert will kill them without a second thought if it means he can get his hands on them.”

“Fuck!” I dropped my head. “When do you leave?” Trey was FBI; he worked out of the KC office for years, and now he was being transferred at the worst time.

“I go undercover in a few days,” he answered. “Look, this nigga Tyrell? He’s just as obsessed with Corinthians as Robert is. I sent you a file for you to look at. Four, if I’m gone…”

“I got it,” I said, rubbing my forehead. “I appreciate the heads up. I’m about to start making moves. Uncle Bradon is either going to have to get bored or deal with the fact that I’m going to get my hands on his brother and finally kill him.”

“Let me get off this phone; my new wife just walked in,” he said.

“Wife?”

“Undercover shit,” he grunted. “I’ll holla at you before I leave. Later.”

He hung up, and I turned off the light, grabbed my phone, then left the bathroom.

I wasn’t going back to sleep. My mind was racing.

I went to my office and pulled up the file Trey said he sent me.

“Tyrell Cartell,” I said, looking at his name.

I let out a laugh as I read his file; Trey had gone above and beyond on what he’d supplied me.

I could kill this nigga with ease, and no one would know, but seeing that SP employed him gave me an in that I didn’t know I wanted until now.

I looked at my watch and noted the time. Nine was probably up working. He’d only lasted two months without Cross before he went back for her.

I swiped my screen, then pulled up his contact information and called him.

“Hello?” he answered.

“I need some information,” I told him, getting right to the point. “Tyrell Cartell.”

“What about him?” he asked. “A potential client?”

“Possibly,” I replied. “What can you pull up on him?”

“You got a date of birth?”

“Yeah, hold up.” I moved the phone from my ear, put it on speakerphone, then went to the file Trey sent me and gave him all the information he would need.

“Got it,” Nine said. “Alright, so it looks like he’s in a relationship and has a kid; his bank account is sitting at about sixty thousand; his parents are alive and well.” He stopped and chuckled.

“What’s up?”

“He’s security for SP,” Nine answered with a laugh, and I smiled. I already knew that, but I needed Nine to see it so he would think this shit was just by chance. “I can snatch him tonight.”

“Nah,” I said, shaking my head.

“Why not?” he questioned. “If he’s contacting you for some shit and he works for SP, ain’t no way you gonna tell me you think it was just by chance. This has Robert written all over it.”

“Which is why I don’t want to snatch him up yet,” I told him. “I want to see where the fuck this shit is going. Robert ain’t gonna show his hand for no reason. I want to know the reason why he sent this dumb muthafucka.”

“So, you just want me to watch him?” he asked, then kissed his teeth. “I can do that.” I could hear him tapping at his computer. “Wait a fucking minute.”

“What’s up?”

“I saw this nigga at Corinthians shop the other day,” he said. “She lined my hair up, and he was there.” He chuckled. “Nah nigga he gotta go. If Robert and Logan are as half as bad as I think they are, ain’t no way I can let this nigga live.”

“I’m telling you to leave that nigga be,” I told him. “If we gotta sit down and talk to the DeCorte’s about him then fine, but he gotta stay alive until I can figure out what the fuck is going on.”

He got quiet, and I knew he was thinking. Nine was short-tempered and moved without thinking, especially when it came to the people he was close to. He may have only been around the DeCortes for a few months, but it was long enough for him to consider them important enough to protect.

“Nah, I don’t want them involved unless they have to be,” he said.

“So, what you want to do? What are you thinking?” I asked because I already knew he was thinking of a plan.

“Come to KC,” he finally said. “Meet Tyrell in person, show your face and see how Robert reacts.”

“Come to KC?” I repeated. “Nah, I can think of something else.”

“Ain’t no other way,” Nine said. “Come here, make it quick. A meet-and-greet, then fly back. I can keep an eye on him after that.”

“Alright,” I agreed. “I’ll set up the meeting.”

Nine suggested we meet across the street at a restaurant near his friend Wednesday restaurants. From where we stood at the entrance, we could see into the dining area, and I could see Tyrell sitting in a corner booth. He was on his phone, enjoying the conversation with whoever he was talking to.

“Look at you, looking professional and shit,” Nine chuckled as he dapped me up. We hugged and then stepped back. “You alright?” His brow went up, and I nodded. “You sure?”

I adjusted the cuffs of my jacket. “Yeah, I’m good.”

“You look like you're about to fall out,” he chuckled, then pulled his phone from his pocket. His smile dropped, and he looked up at me with concern. “Yo vitals are all over the place. What’s going on?”

“I’m annoyed,” I told him.

“Why?”

“I gotta meet with this nigga knowing what I know,” I told him, nodding to where Tyrell was sitting.

“I get it,” Nine said, nodding. He didn’t, but I wasn’t going to explain it to him either. “You ready?”

“Yeah,” I said, then headed towards the table. “Tyrell?” he looked up from his phone and lifted his brow. “My name is Uri-‘

“Oh yeah man,” he said, cutting me off. He hung up his phone, stood, and put his hand out for me to shake. “It’s nice to meet you.”

“This is my business partner, Mecca-“

“Yeah, I read up on y'all,” he interrupted me again. I glanced over at Nine, who was barely hanging on to his temper. We hated to be interrupted, and Tyrell had done it twice. “Have a seat.” He pointed to the empty chairs. “Let’s discuss business.”

We sat, and the waitress came over and took our drink orders. Nine and I ordered water while Tyrell ordered Hennessy and Coke.

“So, tell us exactly what you need from us,” I said once the waitress was gone.
