Chapter Eighteen
Jessica dug another hole in the bed of flowers she was working on. The outdoor garden was really taking shape, and she couldn’t have been more pleased. The garden seemed to expand more every week, but there were still many acres for her to take if she wanted.
She didn’t think she’d go that far because it would be a lot for her to take care of. When she told Gideon, he hired an older man to help with whatever she needed.
The man had been a gardener for his whole life. He’d tried to retire, but he got so bored he drove his wife crazy, so he looked for a part-time job, and luckily, Gideon had snatched him up before anyone else could.
Alan was a sweet man who always smiled and made jokes. Every day he was there, the garden seemed to come alive.
He had left a bit ago, and she was planning on stopping soon so she could get washed up before Gideon got home.
Things between them had calmed, and their feelings for each other had deepened. It had taken most of the next day, they were in the hotel for him to finally get her to see the truth.
It hadn’t been until he told her how much he loved her that any doubt slid away. Since then, he’d been even more affectionate and loving.
She was excited to see him. She wanted to tell him the news that they were pregnant. She hadn’t been sure until after the pregnancy test she took that morning. She wasn’t very far along, but her periods had always been consistent, so for her not to get one told her all she needed to know.
Jessica heard footsteps coming toward her. She knew it wasn’t Gideon unless he’d taken up wearing heels.
When her sister came into view, it didn’t surprise her. Jessica had been expecting her for a while now.
“Hello.”
Jessica stood and slapped her hands together to get the majority of the dirt off. “What are you doing here?”
Bambi looked around. “The house is very big and beautiful.”
“Yes, it is.” Jessica waited for her next move.
“This should have been mine,” Bambi said.
Jessica had to bite her lip to keep from laughing. “I don’t think there was ever a chance for you. Gideon disliked you from the moment you met.”
Bambi’s face tightened and turned red. “There’s no way he would pick you over me.”
“Why?”
Bambi sputtered. “Because I’m more beautiful.”
“You are, but most men don’t want a fake skeleton with unnatural white hair. The fact that you are self-centered and narcissistic makes you downright ugly.”
Bambi gasped in outrage. “Absolutely not. I’ve always been gorgeous, and every man wants to be with me.”
“Then why aren’t you married?” Jessica asked.
She knew it took her sister off guard.
“Because I haven’t found the one I want to spend my life with,” Bambi said.
Jessica grinned. “Or maybe it’s the fact you like to sleep around too much?”
“You’re a horrible person,” Bambi yelled.
“How is telling the truth horrible? You might think about the fact that men don’t want to date or marry a woman who’s been around a few times. I’d guess that the men you’ve had sex with don’t come back for seconds. Did you ever wonder why?”
“You don’t know what you are talking about.”
Jessica chuckled. “Oh, I tend to believe the rumors more than what you tell me.”
“There are rumors about me?” Bambi screeched.
“Yes. You’re too self-centered to hear anything besides empty compliments.”
Bambi crossed her arms over her chest. “Listen, bitch, if I wanted Gideon enough, I could have him.”
Jessica grinned and rolled her eyes. “Tell yourself that if you want, but you know the truth deep down.”
“You...” Bambi stopped suddenly and stared behind her. “Oh, my God...”
Jessica looked over her shoulder to see that her mate had shifted into his wolf, and he was walking that way.
“God, we need to run!”
“Why.” She patted her hip and smiled when Gideon sat down next to her.
“That’s a wolf,” Bambi said as she took another step back.
Jessica chuckled. “No. It’s a dog.”
“It looks like a wolf. Why are you touching it?”
“Because he’s mine.”
“They don’t care if he’s here?”
Jessica shook her head. “Not at all. Do you want to pet him?”
Bambi looked repulsed and shuddered. “Oh, God, no. The thing is dirty.”
Jessica knelt by Gideon and hugged his neck. “No, he smells clean to me.”
If her sister got any paler, Jessica was afraid she’d pass out.
“You’re crazy,” Bambi said.
Gideon pulled away from Jessica and took a couple of menacing steps towards Bambi. The growls coming from him would send shivers up anyone’s spine.
Bambi screamed. “Do something!”
Jessica rolled her eyes. “Boy, come back here.”
Gideon turned and glared at her over his shoulder.
“Now.”
Gideon turned and stalked back to her.
“It listens to you?” Bambi asked in shock.
“He better. I’m the boss of him.”
Jessica didn’t have to look at him to know that she’d pay for that later.
“What kind is he?”
“Oh, he’s a mutt.” She was really digging a hole, but couldn’t stop smiling. “Is there anything else you’d like to talk about, Bambi?”
“What?”
Her sister seemed very confused. “Would you like me to have Gideon call you? Then you can tell him that you’re interested in him.”
“Is that thing around all the time?” Bambi asked and pointed at Gideon.
“Oh, yes. We have a few dogs running around, and they all seem nice.”
“No. It’s fine. I just wanted you to remember he wanted me first.”
Jessica bit her lip when Gideon growled again.
Bambi’s eyes widened. “Is it mad?”
“Hm, I’m not sure. He’s usually very nice to people, but he’s taken a dislike to you for some reason.”
“Me? Why?”
Jessica cringed at the high-pitched tone of her sister’s voice.
“I don’t know, but I do know I might not be able to make him calm down. If I were you, I’d high-tail it out of here.”
Bambi stood frozen for a moment, but when Gideon made a deep rumbling growl, she screamed, turned, and ran off.
“Well, I think that’s the last time we’ll see her here.”
Jessica chuckled and then looked at Gideon. She knew instantly she was going to pay for what she said and called him.
She started backing away and held her hands out in front of her. “Now, wait a second. You know I didn’t mean anything.” She ruined it when a giggle burst from her.
He took another slow, menacing step towards her.
“Gideon.”
He huffed and lowered his head.
She walked backward deeper into the garden. She wanted to head to the house, but he blocked her every time.
“Hey, just be glad I didn’t call you a werewolf or make you heel.”
She knew she said the wrong thing when a rumble came from his chest.
“Shit.” She turned and raced off, knowing he could catch her at any moment.
His teeth grabbed the back of her t-shirt and started pulling her down to the ground. She had to admit, he was very gentle with her. When she was on her back, Gideon’s wolf stood over her.
She tried to pet him when he started licking her. “Oh, my God, stop, Gideon.” She tried pushing him off or holding his mouth closed, but he was just too strong.
“This is gross.”
She gasped when the man had taken over, and he was still over her, naked, aggressive, with a hot look in his eyes that told her she was about to get thoroughly fucked.
He tore her t-shirt and wrestled her out of her clothing before giving her some of his weight, but not enough to make her uncomfortable.
Gideon cupped the back of her head in one hand and lined up his cock to her before pressing in.
Every time he fucked her was better than the last, and she didn’t know if she would be able to handle it in a month or two.
“Do you want to say those things again, mate?” Gideon asked after he bottomed out inside of her tight cunt.
She couldn’t grab onto her thoughts, and it felt like the world had faded away, and it was only the two of them.
Jessica wrapped her arms around his neck. “No. Maybe later. Right now, my husband needs to take care of me.”
He rolled his eyes but started to thrust in and out of her. It didn’t take long before they were both out of control, he was growling, and she was crying out.
The sex didn’t last long, but it was intense and mind-blowing.
After a moment, she calmed down and caught her breath while he slid out of her and pulled her against him.
He pressed a kiss to her forehead.
“Hey, I’ve got something to tell you,” she said.
He rose up on his elbow to look down at her. “I’ve got something to tell you, too.”
Her heart skipped a beat at the loving expression on his face. “You go first.”
He bent and pressed a kiss to her lips. “We’re going to have a baby.”
Jessica’s mouth dropped open. “How in the heck did you know that?”
“Your scent changed instantly.”
“So, you’ve known for a few weeks and haven’t said anything?” she asked.
“Yes. I wanted to wait until the best time.”
“You know that’s what I was going to tell you,” she said in a disgruntled tone.
“I’m sorry,” he said, but ruined it when he grinned.
“No, you’re not. Will I ever get to surprise you with anything?”
He shook his head. “No, and I like it that way.”
She tried to hit him. “You’re so rude.”
He chuckled and shut her up by kissing her.
Her heart melted, and tears filled her eyes when he looked down at her with so much love. “I love you, mate.”
She ran her fingers over his cheek. “I love you, too.” They took the time to savor the moment.
“I’ve got a question,” she said.
“What is it?” he asked.
“The baby is going to come out human, right? I’m not going to have puppies?”
She felt him stiffen, and his eyes narrowed into hard slits.
“Mate, are you trying to get punished?”
She giggled. “What? No! It was just a question.”
He snorted. “Yeah, sure. Let’s rest for a minute, and then I’ll take you to our suite, and we’ll bathe.”
“I’d like that.”
She closed her eyes to rest when she heard him.
“Puppies? Really?”
She couldn’t help but laugh. “You make me happy.”
He grunted. “That’s not going to get you out of trouble, mate.”
She secretly smiled because she actually looked forward to his punishments, but she wasn’t going to tell him that.
