Chapter 10 Calliope

I sat at the top of the stairs, listening as Ayden and Cain talked to Dax. What the reporter was doing in my home, I wasn’t sure of until I heard what they were talking about. Ayden was challenging him, asking him why he thought he was suitable to be part of our pack. I held my breath as I waited for the alpha’s answer. I should have been charging down the stairs, giving them a piece of my mind. Should have been doing anything but sitting here waiting for Dax to respond to my alpha. Listening to Dax answer Ayden’s questions should have made me want to run as far away from the strange alpha that smelled like death as I could. Instead, the loneliness in his voice made me want to curl around him and tell him that he would never be alone again.

My thoughts were derailed when Ayden asked him, “What does Calliope smell like to you?”

“Home, she smells like home.” That made me gasp.

As soon as I let it out, I knew that Ihad given myself away. I debated tucking tail and going back to the nest. Ayden knew it too because he called out to me. “Calliope, are you listening?”

I stood, pulling my head over the railing so I could see the handsome face of my alpha smiling up at me. “Maybe a little, but y’all are talking about me.”

“Why don’t you come down here and join us?” Cain teased. “You can tell me all about how much fun it was to cut Ayden up.”

Coming down the stairs, I started to take a path that would get me close to Dax. I longed to hold him. “Get your ass over here.”

I froze for a moment. Ayden had just barked at me. He didn’t do it often, but when he did it always hit me the same way. It activated that primal part of my brain that made me instantly submit.

Jarrod never barked at me before. Even all of the times that he had used his fists and his knot to force me under control, he had never barked at me. It was hard to breathe. Trapped, that was how I felt. The roughness of the ropes at my wrists and ankles. The way I was pulled this way and that, moved for their pleasure, I had no say in what they did to me. Using my heat to their advantage. I was being moved right now, tensing for what I knew was coming, I allowed myself to be moved as he pleased. Submit. That was the only thing that I could do to survive this.

“Calliope, baby, no one’s going to hurt you.” That voice made me shake, and I didn’t know why.

“Of course not.” My voice sounded far off, like I was hearing it through a speaker that was busted. “I’m doing what I’m told.”

“Who the fuck did this to her?” It was a demand that made me freeze on whoever’s lap that I was in. He was so angry; I didn’t want him anywhere near me.

“Shush, he’s trying to bring her back.” There was something vaguely familiar about that voice.

“Baby, you’re shaking.” The person started to purr, trying to help me calm down.

My body responded before my mind did. Relaxing into him, his arms wrapped around me, and I released a sigh of relief. This man meant safety to me. I struggled to remember where I was, it was like trying to swim through the thickest tar. I felt heavy, fighting against what I knew now to be a memory. Taking a deep breath, I took that wood smoke scent into my lungs. With each breath I felt more stable. When I dared to open my eyes the first thing I saw was my alpha.

Ayden stared down at me with so much love in his eyes that my heart ached. “I’m okay.”

“Someone needs to explain to me what just happened.” Dax’s voice held a deadly edge to it.

“It was a flashback,” Cain started, “to the worst night of her life.”

“Who am I adding to my hitlist?” Dax growled.

I was sweating where I sat in Ayden’s arms. So hot that I had to get out of what I was wearing immediately. It wasn’t much. Cain’s t-shirt went flying as I tossed it over my shoulder. I didn’t even look to see where it landed, it wasn’t enough. I was too fucking hot. Pushing back against Ayden’s arms, he released me, and I scooted off his lap. Wiggling until my shorts hit the floor. That interrupted their conversation.

“Little Omega, what are you doing?” Cain asked me.

“I’m so hot.” My whine hit Dax, his eyes widening as he reached for me.

Ayden was between us before he could touch me, pulling me close to his side. He was covering me in his delicious scent. Being this close to him did nothing but make me wet. I was positively dripping by the time he growled. “You will not be touching her without her explicit consent.”

My hands moved down his body, reaching for the jeans he was wearing. Leaning forward I traced the line of one of those scabbed slash marks with my tongue. He shivered for me when I slid my hand into his pants and wrapped my hand around the base of his cock. My other hand undid the button and slid his zipper down so he was exposed for me. Keeping my hold on him, I used the other hand to run my nails up his length. The moan he released was reward enough. My pussy had other ideas, throbbing, reminding me that I was so empty there.

“I need…” I dropped the thought, not wanting to voice it.

Cain knew and responded without me having to finish the thought. “I would love to eat that sweet pussy of yours while you play with our alpha, but we need to decide what we are doing with Dax.”

Stroking Ayden slowly, I teased him until he growled, “Calliope, behave for two seconds.”

“But I need my alpha’s knot.”

“If this is her in heat, you two seem to have it well in hand.” Dax started to move.

Sensing he was about to leave, I released a whine. Dropping my hold on Ayden’s cock, I spun in his arms and started to go to the other alpha. “Don’t go.”
