Chapter 45 Dax

Calliope was gone and I was going to murder the son of a bitch who took her. I just had to wait until Ayden figured out who was behind it. He was doing just that back in Devyn’s office.

“We know who the fuck took her,” Cain snapped. “I just need the bastard’s address.”

“I know where he lives.”

Cain’s head popped up, pinning me with his glare. “Go on.”

“I followed him home. Stalked him and his pack. He has this infuriating omega who I can’t wait to kill.”

“You are not killing a likely trafficked omega.” Ayden was giving me a death glare.

“Can’t kill the one that had the audacity to touch Cain, can’t kill this one. So many rules.” I pulled my blade from its sheath, testing the edge against my thumb. “What you don’t seem to understand is that I don’t give a flying fuck what you want me to do. You don’t hold my leash. The person who does may very well be dead soon. I will slaughter anyone who tries to get in the way of me saving her life.”

“Going in blind will only end up hurting Calliope.” Cain came over to me, his hand on my cheek, pushing my face towards him. “Calliope keeps all of us in line. Without her, we are humanity’s worst nightmare. Just give Ayden some time to find us blueprints and information on the whole pack. Then you can kill the whole bunch.”

I nodded, pulling away from him and going to the case I had made for Calliope. She still hadn’t seen what was inside. The lock popped open, and I was left staring at the items I had custom made for my pack. This was the perfect moment for them. I pulled them out and laid all of them on the table in front of me, pushing the box to the side. At a glance, it would look like a normal knife with a retractable blade.

“Hey, Cain, I have something for you.” I loved the sparkle in his eyes when I said that.

He joined me, taking the knife from my hand when I offered it to him. “It’s a pocketknife.”

“Open the blade.” He did so by flipping it down, so the metal descended. I could see his finger moving on the two buttons there. “Push the top one first.” He did so, I could tell he didn’t believe anything was going to happen. I thought for a second it was failing until the metal started to glow an angry red.

Cain’s eyes widened when he saw that. “How?”

“I don’t know how he did it. He’s your bladesmith.”

He smiled at me, thumb moving to hit the button again. He waited until the metal was cool to the touch before hitting the other one, making electricity spark along the edge. “This is the coolest thing anyone has ever given me.”

Cain was just throwing his arms around me when Ayden spoke up. “I got you a whole ass omega.”

“People aren’t presents,” Cain grumbled.

“You sure thought so when I let you bring her home.” The way they were both grinning made me think it was an inside joke.

“I have something for you too, Ayden.” I nearly whispered it, not knowing how the other alpha would respond to a gift.

“You’re going to want to see this. How he even knows about where you carry your guns is beyond me.” That made Ayden stand and come to us.

There were three holsters there. Each one was matte black and made of the highest quality leather. Each of them had flip locks to keep the gun in place. They were molded to only fit Ayden. The alpha reached down and picked up the first one. He knelt, pulling up the pant leg and removing the holster there. Setting the old one down, he replaced it with deft fingers. The second one was a belly band, and the third was a sling holster. He deftly replaced the other two.

“I love that you thought of the whole pack.” Ayden grabbed my shoulder as he passed to go back to his computer.

The last item was the thing that mattered most to me. My hand reached out, grabbing the brass knuckles. That was a misnomer really—they weren’t brass. They were tempered steel, stronger than nearly any other metal. On each of the knuckles were tiny shards of black obsidian. I had chosen that stone carefully, knowing it was sharp enough to do some damage, but brittle enough to leave bits of it behind. Not giving it to her sooner was my only regret in this whole thing. I knew I couldn’t have done anything about her getting abducted, but if she had the knuckles on her she would have at least been able to protect herself.

Pushing the weapon into its sheath, I slid it into my pocket. “Found it.” Ayden’s voice drew my attention.

Cain and I moved as one, looking over his shoulder at the blueprints for Jeremy’s house. An evil grin spread across my face as a plan formulated in my head.
