Extended Epilogue Dax

Returning to the United States was the last thing I ever expected to do. My entire pack was on the FBI’s most-wanted list. We had all but admitted to our crimes, so it was only a matter of time before they came for us. Coming back after a decade was the last thing I wanted to do. But Calliope’s doctor was here. My sweet omega was dying. The sickly scent of thyroid cancer was eating away at her very being. One year and three days ago she was diagnosed with it, we begged her to go through chemo, do the radiation and stay alive because we couldn’t stand to live without her.

She had decided to forego treatment, instead wanting to live out the last year of her life with us instead of in hospitals. So, we took her home, loved her, held her as she fell apart. Took care of everything she might need. Every second watching her lose weight. Get sick, and not be able to hold anything down. It changed all of us watching the woman we worshipped fade away. It broke what little compassion I had for humanity, making me want to rage at the world. It wasn’t fucking fair. Ten years wasn’t enough, never would be. I couldn’t imagine living without her, but there wasn’t much we could do. It was her choice—and we respected that.

All of us could feel the bond fading as she got closer to taking her last breath. It was heartbreaking to hear her struggle for breath. Pain flooded through the bond as she lost her fight. Her last exhale was agonizing as the life slipped from her. Our hearts broke as one as we felt our bond go black. My focus snapped to attention. The beeping of the heart monitor as she flat lined brought the doctors and nurses flooding in.

I smiled when I saw them. Reaching for my blade, I pulled it, dragging the nurse against the wall and slicing her throat open. Cain and Ayden had moved as I did, Cain’s flying blades taking out a doctor and the other nurse. The satisfying sound of a neck snapping made me look at Ayden, he threw the body to the side before pulling a blade of his own.

We moved through the halls as one, taking out every employee we came across. The patients were the only ones safe. Calliope had chosen this hospital very carefully, it had quite a reputation on the deep web for helping to traffic omegas. Ayden and Cain cleared my way so I could make it to the basement. That was where they kept the omegas.

I was running down the stairs when I felt Ayden’s bond die. My heart ached even more knowing I had lost him. I wouldn’t be apart from my pack long. I just had to survive long enough to rescue the omegas. Pushing through the door to the basement, I felt a flash of pain and then nothing as Cain fell. My grin was about as evil as it could be, the emotions I had felt dying, replaced by that need to kill I had managed to suppress for a decade.

I charged into the coroner’s office, forcing him to open the rooms with the omegas. After he did so, I slit his throat. That was when the scents hit me, making my brain go haywire. Charging the closest one, I hit the ground before I could take two steps and felt a puddle expanding beneath me. It hurt to breathe—my heart was beating too slow.

I’m coming my loves. Wait for me.
