Chapter 7

CHAPTER SEVEN

“Get the fuck off of me!” came the shouted demand that had Kaya going still as rage, like nothing she’d ever experienced before, shot through her at the thought of someone touching her mate.

She felt her horns extend as her fangs tore through her gums and quickly made her way towards the basement door, ready to kill someone.

She didn’t bother with the security code, she simply ripped the thick metal door off its hinges and tossed it aside.

She was already halfway down the stairs when she heard the door finally hit the floor.

“Get off!” came the deafening shout followed by...

Giggles?

She quickly made her way to his room only to stop in the doorway as she tried to make sense of what she was seeing.

Her sisters were holding Trajan down, three demons on each leg, while Lax straddled his stomach, leaning over him with a tube of lipstick.

Her brain didn’t even register the lipstick.

The only thing she cared about was that another female was on her male.

Zoey looked up and paled at the sight of her.

No doubt her eyes were flashing silver and green.

Zoey slowly backed away from Trajan’s right leg, taking the two other demons with her.

The demons started to protest until they saw her.

Then, they couldn’t move to the other side of the room fast enough.

The others soon followed, leaving Lax struggling to stay where she was.

“A little help here would be nice,” Lax said as she was forced to reach out and grab hold of the headboard to keep her balance.

“Off. Now,” Kaya bit out through clenched teeth.

“Huh?” Lax mumbled, turning back to look at her and-

“Oh, shit...” Lax said, swallowing hard as she moved to climb off him, only to fall back on the mattress.

That was followed by scrambling to put space between her and Trajan, only to end up falling off the bed, hitting the floor with a pained grunt before finally getting to her feet and quickly made her way to the far corner of the room, where she joined the rest of their sisters, who were all doing their best to look innocent.

“We didn’t do anything,” Zoey said, blinking innocently at her.

“He left us with no choice, Kaya,” Lax said with a firm nod as she pointed towards the flatscreen.

Slowly, Kaya followed the gesture only to blink in confusion as she found herself wondering why the “Monster” was currently sticking out of Buffy’s head.

“See? We had no choice!” Tanja pointed out.

“Oh, please,” Trajan said, sounding annoyed.

“He killed Buffy! We were just avenging our sister in arms!” Lax added with a sniffle.

“Your sister in arms was getting it on with a leech,” Trajan drawled, tearing gasps of outrage from every demon in the room while Kaya stood there, praying for patience she damn well knew that she didn’t have.

“You rat bastard!” Lax bit out as she took a threatening step towards the bed only to have several hands grab her and pull her back. She started to struggle only to go still when someone pointed towards Kaya.

Lax immediately relaxed and nodded. “Oh, yeah, I forgot Kaya was about to go postal and kill us all. My bad,” she said, gesturing for Kaya to continue.

Kaya narrowed her eyes on her sisters before she focused back on the man on the bed. Every muscle in his body was tense as he glared at the women huddled in the corner.

“For the last time, I need to use the bathroom,” Trajan bit out.

Zoey rolled her eyes. “Fine. I’ll get a bucket,” she said, before shooting a thoughtful look at Trajan’s chained hands. “I suppose you’ll need me to aim for you…”

“Out!” Kaya roared, startling everyone in the room.

She watched her sisters shove each other in an attempt to get out of the room, making sure to keep as much distance between them and the bed as humanly possible.

Everyone in the house knew a pissed-off rage demon was to be avoided at all costs, especially when their mate was involved, and whether Trajan accepted the position or not, he was hers.

“Jeesh, you attack her mate and she suddenly turns bitchy.”

“Kind of annoying.”

“Tell me about it.”

“Next thing you know, she’ll start bitching about the Polaroids we took of him.”

Kaya growled, causing them to scatter. When they were finally gone, she closed the door and locked it to make sure that they weren’t interrupted.

Without looking back at Trajan, she placed his bag on the table near the door.

She could feel his glare, but she was too angry with herself to really care.

She’d never threatened her sisters before and she’d been ready to tear them apart and all because of this man, who didn’t even want her.

She needed to stay calm and focus on her job, which was to protect her pack.

“Well?” Trajan snapped.

Kaya didn’t say anything as she opened a small panel by the door to reveal two buttons, one black and the other one green. With a small sigh, she pressed the green button. A small engine roared to life a few seconds later before the sounds of chains rattling echoed throughout the room.

She watched Trajan sit up as he looked at her, then to his chains, and then finally, at the headboard, where the chains were now being pushed through before he climbed off the bed and stretched his arms above his head with a groan.

When it appeared as though he had enough chain to reach the bathroom, she hit the black button.

The engine immediately died. She took her time closing the panel, knowing that he wouldn’t be able to reach it.

When she turned around, he was nowhere in sight.

Frowning, she followed the trail of chains to the bathroom. Inside the bathroom, Trajan had one hand pressed against the wall as he arched his back and sighed loudly while he relieved himself. Before he was done, he flushed the toilet only to flush it again when he finished.

Interesting…

Kaya stepped into the bathroom, hoping to catch a glimpse of whatever he was trying to hide. Too late, she realized with a sigh. Whatever it was, it was gone now.

“It’s all yours,” Trajan said, sounding amused as he climbed into the small shower stall and pulled the curtain closed.

Kaya wasn’t in the mood to play any games at the moment. She wanted answers and she wanted them now. She yanked the curtain open and crossed her arms over her chest as she glared at him.

He didn’t seem to care as he lathered his hair.

Kaya’s eyes narrowed on him before she ran them down his body.

She had no idea what he was, but whatever he was, he was a prime specimen.

She watched his biceps bulge as his hands worked the shampoo through his hair.

She forced her eyes to move to the large tattoo that ran across his chest and to his back.

It was like nothing she’d ever seen before and if she didn’t know any better, she would have thought that it was tribal, but there was just something off about it that drew her attention.

Her eyes dropped down to his flat stomach and was forced to bite back a groan.

If nothing else, that was enough to prove that he wasn’t human. Even when he wasn’t aroused that thing was terrifying. Dear Gods, she’d been with several demons, and none of them had ever been anywhere close to being that big, and demon males were known for their size.

His poor wife, Kaya thought with a sympathetic wince.

The reminder that he was married was the mental kick in the ass that she needed to do her job. She tore her eyes away from that rather frightening appendage and looked up to find him standing there with his eyes closed as he let the water run over him.

“Are you ready to tell me what you are now?”

“Human,” he answered without hesitation.

“Is that the game you want to play?”

Cold, beautiful green eyes turned on her. “Little girl, you don’t want to play with me.”

Trajan dropped his head back under the spray of hot water and groaned as he focused on the hot water working its way down his body.

It almost helped him forget about his hunger pains.

The head injury had cost him. Right now, he was at half strength and if he didn’t get blood soon, then he was going to go into bloodlust and he’d have other problems to worry about.

Normally, he could go without blood for a week before bloodlust hit, but thanks to that damn pipe tearing through his head, he was getting closer with every passing minute. If he didn’t eat soon, there would be no hiding what he was.

He wasn’t afraid of death. He’d given up that dream over two thousand years ago.

Death was the freedom and peace that he would never be granted.

He was bound to live on this earth long after the humans destroyed it.

That wouldn’t stop them from trying to kill him.

Just like a human, he could feel pain, but unlike humans, he wouldn’t be granted death to escape it.

He would feel every single agonizing ounce of pain.

The sooner he convinced these demons that he wasn’t anything special, the better.

The whirring of the engine caught his attention right before his chains were yanked violently back.

He pulled against them before he realized that would only work against him.

With a sigh, Trajan stopped fighting and let himself be dragged out of the shower, across the bathroom floor, where his feet slid until he hit the carpet and was pulled across the room until he found himself once again on his back, chained to the bed. Only this time, he was soaking wet.

He ground his jaw as he waited for the torture to begin.

“Let’s begin, shall we?” Kaya announced in a light tone.

He didn’t answer.

“I grabbed your bag from your apartment,” Kaya said, watching him for a reaction.

This was part of the game.

They would ask questions that he refused to answer until it was time to use pain. There was nothing that they could do to break him, so he focused on a crack in the ceiling and waited for it to be over.

“Interesting place you had there,” Kaya said as she slowly unzipped his bag.

He didn’t care.

There was nothing in there that he cared about. Everything that meant the world to him was well-hidden.

“I especially liked your fridge,” Kaya said casually as he felt his heart skip a beat before it began beating frantically.

Oh, Christ…

Out of the corner of his eye, Trajan watched her walk towards him as she held up a faded leather pouch in her hand. “I have to say, this was very interesting,” Kaya said casually as she opened the pouch and poured the contents onto his stomach.

Trajan closed his eyes as he felt the small stones against his skin. If she’d lost one goddamn stone, he was going to kill every fucking demon in this house and tear this world apart.
