Chapter 28
“ W here do they have her?” I burst into Sasha’s apartment. “Where the fuck are they keeping her?”
Sasha looks up from his desktop, nonplussed as usual. His cat hisses when I get too close to the desk.
“So much for staying calm.” Kaz shuts the door and takes a spot beside Alexander while Sasha goes back to clicking on his keyboard.
“It’s been four hours, Sasha. Where the fuck is she!” The desk shakes when I slam my fist on it. Berenice hisses again and swipes a claw at me.
“Shit, she really doesn’t like you.” Sasha shoos the cat away before I can retaliate.
“I’m doing what I can, Rurik, but they have her somewhere with no signal.
I was able to hack into the internal GPS system of the car, but it disappeared.
I haven’t been able to get it back. If there was any sort of internet or cellular capability in the area of that car, I’d be able to get a trace on it. ”
“Where did you lose connection?” I spin his monitor around to get a better look.
He turns it back toward himself while shooting a hot glare at me. “That’s what I’m looking into right now. The connection disconnected and reconnected several times, I’m trying to locate the exact spot it went dead.”
“Let the man work,” Alexander says, laying a hand on my shoulder.
“If it was Megan?”
He drops his hand. “Sasha. Work faster.”
Sasha shakes his head but keeping clicking away. “Give me another second. We want the exact spot.”
“James Calloway has been notified that if any communications come through from her or about her, he’s to contact us immediately,” Kaz says, reading his phone.
I flex my fingers. We’d been only half a mile away from picking up the bastard for a conversation when text messages came through with more pictures of Mira.
The detective had nothing to do with her abduction, but I still can’t wrap my head around why she’d even consider meeting with him to take down Marco DeAngelo. Out of all the impulsive, idiotic stunts she’s pulled, this one takes the fucking cake.
And when I get her home safe and sound, once I’ve made those that have touched her pay, I’ll get to the bottom of it. But first, I need her back.
“Got it.” Sasha turns the monitor back to me with a map brought up. “The signal died there.”
My eyes fly over the map, memorizing street names, trying to locate in my mind where she might be.
“She’s in our yard.” Alexander reaches past me and scrolls the screen until the shipping yard and the railroad pop onto the screen. “If they’re holding her, it’s going to be there. Those containers are a dead zone. No signal, no GPS, no tracking devices will work in there.”
“What about on the CCTV?” I ask.
“The last camera picked it up three blocks from where the signal died. If they still have her, I’d say that shipping yard is your best bet.”
“And the message that came through? Where’d it come from?” I question.
“It was from a burner best I can tell. And if it’s in that container with her, we’re not gonna get through to it.” Sasha explains.
“Why’s he waiting to give the drop instructions if he just wants the computer?” Kaz reaches over to Berenice and scratches her behind her ear. The beast purrs in response.
“He’s trying to figure out a way to get out of this without having a bullet through his fucking skull.” I grab the iPad from the corner of the desk. “I’m not going to give him time for that.”
“Ah! Wait, I got a hit!” Sasha yells just as I reach the door. “Gallo! The back plate had a different number; the idiots forgot to swap it out. That number traces us to Sebastian Gallo.”
“Someone swiped his car?” Kaz puts Berenice back down onto the desk, and she rubs her head against his hand, wanting more pets.
“He had three sons. There were two men on that footage.” Every fiber in my body is on fire. “I’m going to kill those fucking idiots!”
If these assholes had no problems killing their own father, they won’t give a second thought about hurting Mira.
Sebastian never trusted his sons to work along his side, or even in his business.
They never dealt with any of Sebastian’s associates and were never intended to take over for him when he stepped back.
“His sons?” Kaz questions. “Those fools would get lost in a one room cabin.”
“I’ll call over there, get some men to start making the rounds.” Alexander’s already on the phone before we get down to the car.
“If they find her, keep the three pricks alive. I want them.” I climb into the car as another text message comes through. Mario being the oldest, I assume he’s in charge at the moment.
Meet at Saveroni’s Place in two hours.
Not a chance in hell am I waiting two hours to meet at an Italian mafia stronghold.
I’ll be there.
“Kaz, we need to stop at Obsidian. I need more firepower.”
