Chapter 4 #3

When he was finished for the day, he made his way home.

The new house had been cleaned and was ready for them to move into it.

They’d only been there during the day and evening, but not at night.

They didn’t have a bed big enough for the two of them, as he only had a single and she had a full-sized bed.

Not nearly big enough for the two of them together in the same bed.

Like he told her, he could wait. He was in love with Lisa and was so happy that she was in his life.

When he got to the new house, there was a car in the driveway that he didn’t know. Going inside, he was surprised to find Lisa with their new cook. Annabelle Washington was ready to cook for them tonight as she and Lisa had had food delivered.

“It won’t be a four-course meal, but it’ll stick to the ribs.

” Lisa said that she was fine with that.

So was he if he didn’t have to cook it. “How about some sausage gravy and biscuits with some bacon on the side? I can even do some fried apples for us so that you have a little sweet with all those carbs.”

He’d not looked forward to dinner in a long time, and he was suddenly famished.

Going up to get a shower and change after work, he was ready for anything when he went back down to the kitchen to have dinner.

Lisa was setting the table in the kitchen even as he got them some juice to go with it.

It was going to be just what they wanted tonight, and he couldn’t wait.

Annabelle fixed them eggs to go with the meal, along with hash brown potatoes.

When he’d had his fill of dinner, he took the leftover fried apples and dumped them over the biscuits that were left.

Finding some whipped cream in the refrigerator, he made himself an apple pie for dessert.

He’d never had such a good meal in a very long time.

“You keep eating like that, and I’m going to have to buy extra groceries to feed you, Mr. Devlin.

” They all three laughed, and he was so full he felt like he was going to bust. Now all he needed to do was take a nap, and he’d feel better.

Going to the living room, where they only had lawn furniture, he sat down on one of the outdoor chairs and closed his eyes.

There was no way he was going to make it home tonight, the way that he was feeling right now.

“I’ll drive the two of us back to your place.” He grunted, unable to form words to tell Lisa he’d like that. “You’re going to be a fat wolf if you keep eating like that. Not that I mind, but that was like the special that we had at the Little Diner. I think you had it when you were there.”

“I did. With the exception of the gravy, which I loved by the way, everything was the same. When she asked me if I wanted pancakes with our meal, I nearly told her no, but they smelled so good.” He felt his wolf rumble a little about being so full.

“You know what? You’ve never seen my wolf.

While I’m so full, we should go out in the back yard, and I can shift. ”

“I would love that.” She got up too fast for him, and he wondered if he’d eaten much more than she had; he could barely move. “Come on. You’re being too slow. I want to see him.”

He made his way outside and wondered why he hadn’t thought of showing her before.

Then he wondered if any of the others had shown their wolves to their mates.

He thought it might be a good idea to have all the mates see their wolves so that she could tell them apart.

Each one of them was different. Case in point, Edmond’s wolf limped because when he’d been younger, their mother had beaten him with her high heel and had removed his toe.

And Lica’s wolf was much bigger than the rest of them because he was alpha.

Brandy’s wolf, she could shift, too, was bigger than they were as well.

Once he shifted, he lay on the ground for Lisa to see him.

He was bigger than the wolves in the wild and even those in zoos or wherever they were held in captivity.

His wolf liked having her pet him behind the ears and purred a little when she hit the spot that he loved.

Once he was happy with her, he rolled to his back and licked her in the face.

It was the most fun he’d had as his wolf in a long time, and he vowed to shift more often than he had been.

He’d been working too hard and neglecting his wolf somewhat.

Playing in the yard with her, she laughed so much that he found himself jumping around the yard just to hear her laughter.

Once when he’d been coming down from a high jump, he nicked his canine into her wrist and licked it.

They had a connection before, but this would make it stronger as he was his wolf.

When she said that she’d had enough, he shifted back to himself and held her in his arms.

“That was so much fun.” He agreed with her. “He’s very playful, isn’t he? I guess he’s more like a puppy than a dog right now.”

“He wanted to hear you laugh. It does us both some good to hear you laughing.” He lifted her chin up and looked down at her face. “I’d love to kiss you right now. Would that be all right?”

“Yes. I’d love that too.” He brushed his lips over hers before deepening the kiss.

Tasting the inside of her sweet mouth, still tasting of apples and cinnamon, he pulled her closer into his arms, remembering his promise to her.

When he took a step back, just enough that they were no longer touching, he smiled at her.

“That was better than I thought it would be. I think that I’m in love with you, Devlin. ”

“I’ve been in love with you since you took me to your house to talk to you. I’ve been waiting for the right time to tell you.” She laughed, and he saw her eyes fill with tears. “Don’t cry, love. I’m sorry if I hurt you.”

“You didn’t. I just realized that I’m in love with you, too.

It’s a very heady feeling, isn’t it? Like everything in the world is suddenly full of color and music.

” He thought that was an apt way of putting being in love.

“I want you to know that I’ve never said that to anyone before, that I love you.

You’re the greatest thing that has ever happened to me, and I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with you. ”

“I can’t wait for the same.” She moved closer to him, and he held her tightly.

He was trying very hard not to rush her, but the thought of taking her right here in the grass was appealing to him.

His cock was so hard that he thought that he could plow nails into the wooden fence that surrounded their yard.

Devlin looked around when he heard someone coming up behind him.

“Go in the house and lock the doors. Call the police. I’ll call my brothers.

” He didn’t know who was behind them, but it wasn’t family.

It was human. He reached out to his family to let them know he might be in trouble.

Lisa didn’t hesitate but went inside and locked the doors.

As soon as he heard the locks engage, he turned to confront whoever had been coming up behind him.

He didn’t know the man, nor did he know the other man with him.

They were both carrying guns and had them pointed at the house where Lisa had gone through the door.
