“Subs it is. Also, I’m picking up some potato chips.
I have a craving for something crunchy, and that just sounds like it will hit the spot.
” He said he wanted barbecue. “I can get those too. All right. Anything else while I’m here?
Would you like some ice cream sandwiches?
Or some just plain ice cream from a tub. ”
“Get some raspberry sherbert. Or some with chocolate in it, too. That’s my favorite.” Lisa told him that it was her favorite, too. “Good. We’ll pig out on subs, then see if we can finish off a tub of raspberry sherbet with chocolate chips in it. I love you.”
“I love you as well. I’m glad that I got in touch with you before I paid for the steaks.
This will be so much better. If you promise to be good, you can turn the oven on to 350 degrees, and we can eat about the time I get home.
The oven will be ready for the subs.” He said that he was feeling better all the time.
“Ivan said it would only be a few more days before you’re up to par. I can’t wait.”
“I can’t either. I do really feel better every day. I’m taking it easy, so I don’t have a relapse. I’m worried that I will. I don’t want to feel that way again.” She said that she didn’t like it either. “I know. I’ll try to be better about getting shot in the future.”
“How about you don’t get shot in the future?
That would make me feel so much better about you being out there with idiots.
Have you heard that the judge will be in town the day after tomorrow?
I can’t wait until that’s over with. He needs to be put in jail for all the trouble that he’s caused.
Hopefully, they’ll throw the book at him.

” He said that Lica had told him about it.
“Good. It’ll be one less thing that we have to worry about in the future.
You just keep your head down when it comes to getting involved with crazy people, and I’ll be just fine. I miss you.”
“I miss you as well. It’s been a difficult three weeks for the two of us, and I don’t want to have to go through that again.
” She said that she didn’t either. “Good. Now, when you get home, we’ll have a nice dinner, and then we’ll watch some television together.
I love snuggling up on the couch with you. ”
She told him that she loved him as well and then told him about the meeting that she’d had with the women.
She didn’t mention the check, that seemed like something that she should do in person, and was glad that they’d be able to fill out their home with whatever they wanted.
Not that they couldn’t afford it, but it would be nice not to have to skimp on things when they had that kind of money.
By the time she’d made it home, she was exhausted.
She’d not been sleeping well, and it was hard for her to remember to behave herself, too.
Once they were given the all clear about his health, she was going to jump his bones and have fun.
It had been too long, and she’d had enough waiting around for him to get better.

Devlin got a clean bill of health from his brother.
And once he was able to shift, he felt even better.
Prancing and leaping around in the yard, he gave his wolf some free time while Ivan watched over him.
It was the best feeling he’d had in weeks to be able to shift and have some fun while he was at it. He asked his brother about sex.
“So long as you don’t overdo it, you should be fine.
I’d just be careful that in that it doesn’t get to be too much, then take a breath and ease back.
You can do that, can’t you?” He said that he wanted to make love to his mate.
“I understand that. You’ll get magic too once you do.
While I don’t know how much Lisa will get, just make sure you warn her beforehand.
I know that when Sen got hers, she was down for a few hours. ”
“I’ll tell her.” He decided to make it a romantic night for the two of them, and his mind was a buzz of things that he could do.
Asking if he thought that Lisa would be able to shift, he got no answer.
“Sen can’t, but Brandy and Mac can. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see. Anything else you need to tell me?”
“Nothing that I can think of that I’ve not already told you.” He did remind him to be easy. “I know it’s going to be hard the first time you make love to your mate, but try not to swing from the lampshades and have monkey sex.”
“I don’t even know what that means.” He said that he didn’t either, but heard it before and thought it was funny now for the situation. “Whatever. It’s been a long week and a half, and I’m glad that it’s over. Are you testifying on my behalf tomorrow?”
“I am if they need me. I have a friend who is going to talk in the event if clarification is needed about what happened to you. He said he’d done it before for other vets who take care of their shifter family members.
I’m just glad that you’re better now. It’s scary to know that you could have bled to death while you were making your point.
” He said that he would have done the same thing.
“You’re right, I would have. And nearly have bled out too to keep my mate safe.
But that doesn’t mean it was any less worrisome for the family. ”
After his brother left him, he went into the house to get ready for the evening.
Lisa was working at one of the little places that Brandy owned and wouldn’t be in until late.
He didn’t care so long as she came home to him safe and sound.
Ordering three dozen roses for her and some other delights that they could use, he gave Annabelle the night off after she made him some ham salad sandwiches for later, as well as some potato salad.
He was about as ready as he could be when she came home.
Hoping for a nice night of debauchery, Devlin took a nap at four just so he’d not be too tired when she got home.
Getting up at five, feeling refreshed, he decided that he’d shave and take a long, hot shower.
He wanted to be ready for his mate and thought it was great that he had the energy to do a few extra things to be ready.
After changing into something more comfortable, he sat in the living room to wait for her.
Whatever happened tonight had been a long time in coming, and he was excited as he’d ever been.
“I’m home.” He told her that he was in the living room. “Oh, what a day. I didn’t think I was ever going to be finished. But I have some good notes on what’s going on at the restaurant now that I’ve spent a couple of days talking to the waitstaff. What have you been up to?”
“Ivan came over to check on me and said that I’m as healthy as I can be.
He’s also cleared me to have sex with you.
” He loved it when he could embarrass her, and now was no different.
“I didn’t want to keel over having sex with you to have him tell me I should have waited. You don’t want that, do you?”
“No. Please tell me what he said.” He did. Even about not having monkey sex. “I thought that they had sex like humans did?”
“I have no idea. He said it was something that he’d heard and thought that it was a good time to say it.
We can have all the sex we want. I’ve been preparing things for us.
” She kicked off her shoes and smiled up at him.
“You’re very beautiful when you’re standing there like this. I don’t tell you that often enough.”
“Thank you. And you tell me a great deal. If you did it anymore, it would go right to my head.” She wrapped her arms around his shoulders and kissed him on the chin. “You shaved.”
“I did. I didn’t want to give you any kind of beard burn when I ate you.
” She shivered in his arms, and he pulled her closer.

“You keep that up, and we’ll never make it up the stairs.
I have plans for that room, and I want you there, not here on the floor. ”
“We could do it in both places.” He said he had to take it easy. “Yes, I don’t want to kill you the first time we have sex. What are your plans for the evening? I’m up for just about anything you have in mind.”
He picked her up in his arms and regretted it the moment he did it.
Putting her back down on her feet, he told her that he was sorry that he’d done that, but would she please forgive him.
She giggled a little and told him she was going to warn him about picking her up when he was supposed to pace himself.
“I’ll be better the next time.” She said that she hoped that he would. “I’m just going to lead you up the stairs and into our room. I think the next time I want to pick you up, I’ll be much better.”
“Did you hurt yourself?” He said that he just wasn’t used to picking her up just yet. “I’m not that heavy, am I?”
“You’re not heavy at all. I’ve just been lying on the couch for the past ten days, and I forgot myself.
I’ll go back to running, and you won’t be able to keep up with me.
” He kissed her on her mouth and told her that he loved her.
“With all that I am and then some. I can’t wait to make love to you. ”
They went up the stairs, stopping on occasion to kiss or to take some bit of clothing off one another.
By the time they were in the bedroom, he’d lost his shirt, and she’d lost her pants.
It was a good beginning for them and hopefully an epic ending.
He took her to the side of the bed and stood with her.
