Divine Revelry of Revenge

Abandoned on an island the morning after Theseus swears love and marriage, Ariadne, Princess of Crete, watches his ship sail away and answers the betrayal with revenge.

She had pledged to free the Athenian prince and the other tributes offered to the monster said to lurk beneath her palace, hoping to escape her father's savage rule as well.

The island belongs to Dionysus, a still-minor god of wine and revelry whose fragile power depends on the followers he can keep.

He needs that following to survive the threat against him, while Ariadne intends to stop Theseus from taking any more power, even as she insists she is done with real love and cannot ignore how infuriatingly strong the pull between them has become.

If their union can raise them both into legend, she will spend that power on every so-called hero and bring their labyrinth of lies down until the gods themselves have reason to tremble.
