Chapter 10

MuJinci stared at me, eyes swollen with tears, face twisted in shock and regret.

“I…”

Her voice cracked. Before she could finish, her body went limp.

I had no choice but to take her to the hospital.

The doctor said it was too much alcohol and emotional overload. An IV drip, and she’d be fine.

I waited until she was settled, then left without a word.

After that night, MuJinci stopped coming around.

Maybe she finally accepted it was over.

Maybe she was too ashamed to show her face.

Either way, life without her harassment felt lighter.

I worked, read, had the occasional drink.

Days turned into months, months into a year.

The peaceful routine slowly erased her from my mind.

Until one day, my new girlfriend came down with a fever. I took her to the hospital for an IV drip.

And there, in the same ward, was MuJinci.

Alone.

Not a sign of ChenYi anywhere.

MuJinci saw me. Her eyes widened in shock first, then filled with shame and quiet despair.

She turned away quickly, pretending she didn’t know me, but I caught her stealing glances from the corner of her eye.

I didn’t acknowledge her. I kept my arm around my girlfriend and walked straight past.

Only after we vanished from her view did she finally walk away, slow and reluctant.

I thought—if our marriage hadn’t fallen apart the way it did, maybe today it would’ve been me beside her in this hospital.

I would’ve held her close like this, cared for her, and protected her.

But she never cherished it.

From then on, I decided to let fate take me forward—no regrets.

So when I looked back, I carried none.
