Chapter 10 DOG
DOG
“Jesus Christ, it’s like watching Maggie and Dog all over again,” Thor chuckles.
“The apple really didn’t fall far from the tree,” Kate agrees with a hint of a smile as she snuggles closer to Shep on the chair that Sam had built. He’d built a couple that were big enough for two people to sit on.
Thor isn’t wrong. Watching Draco and Molly was like stepping back in history. Although I don’t think I was as stupid or stubborn as Draco was being.
It was late evening, and we were sitting around the fire pit that the new prospects had recently built. There had been a lot of changes over the last few months as the ACES were cleaned up and got rid of.
Along with Reaper, Onyx, and Rogue finding their old ladies. Rogue getting kidnapped hadn’t been in the plan, but we’d rallied, and he was now home with Julia.
Gunny had pulled his head out of his arse and asked Bev what she wanted. She was perfect for my brother, and both Maggie and Kate liked her. Life was settling down, but I knew from experience that something would happen and we’d be back in the trenches.
But until it did, I was going to enjoy watching my son make an arse out of himself as he tried to wrangle the woman that was meant for him. Not that she was making it easy. We all found it hilarious as fuck to watch.
“He’ll get it right,” Maggie states. “Draco doesn’t need easy, he’ll get bored. He needs someone to keep him on his toes. Molly is exactly right for him.”
“Well, you weren’t wrong about Onyx and Rea so I’d say you’re right about them,” Gunny agrees.
“Of course, I wasn’t,” Maggie snorts. “I’m his mother. Kate and I knew all we had to do was get them in the same vicinity and nature would take its course. Those two were meant to be together. We knew that from when they were teenagers.”
Chuckling, I press a kiss to Maggie’s head. I know we’ll be going in soon and leaving the younger generation to party. I’m sure they thought we all went to bed with hot cocoa and straight to sleep.
Little did they know…
“How long do you reckon before they get together?” Kate muses.
“I give it two weeks,” Maggie replies.
“Three months,” Thor replies. “Draco is stubborn as fuck.”
“Six months,” Gunny chimes in.
“No way,” Shep disagrees. “They’ve been tiptoeing around each other for months. I agree with Maggie. Two weeks.”
“Whenever it happens, it’s going to be explosive,” Bev murmurs. “You can feel the sexual tension from here.”
“On that note,” Gunny states, standing up, pulling Bev up with him, but he doesn’t stop there. He tugs and lifts her laughing over his shoulder. “We’ll see you all later, I’ve got some of my own sexual tension to tend to.”
We laugh.
“The Gunny from our twenties is back,” Kate snickers, tilting her head back on Shep’s shoulder to look up at him. “What says you, Alan Crow, you ready to take me to bed?”
“Always,” Shep grins down at her, “although you’ll be doing most of the work.”
“Sounds good to me,” Katie replies, standing up. “Night you lot. See you in the morning.”
“Night,” we reply, watching them walk away.
“It’s good to have Shep back with us,” Thor says.
“Yeah,” Maggie replies. “Almost seems like old times, except now we get to sit back and watch the shenanigans instead of being in the thick of it.”
“Suits me,” I reply. Nudging Maggie, “Come on gorgeous let’s head to bed.”
“I’ll come in with you and check on the teens,” Thor says joining us.
All of us are right about Draco and Molly. Kate and Maggie when they say he’ll get his head out of his arse, sooner rather than later.
And me?
I’m right when I know that something always comes up when one of our boys finds his one. Although this time round nobody needs rescuing as the girls have it in hand.
I help because Molly’s essentially my daughter-in-law, and there’s no way I’m allowing anything to happen to her. Not that they need help, this bunch of old ladies is more than capable of watching out for each other and taking care of business.
I love Molly for Draco; she suits him. Just like Rea suits Onyx. Makes me wonder who will be the one that my baby girl falls for. I’m not sure I’m ready for that.
Hopefully, it won’t be anytime soon because I’m getting too old for the shit that seems to crop up as soon as one of ours finds the one meant for them.
