Chapter 25

Unknown

He follows me up the staircase.

I don’t look back. I don’t need to. The house is empty. Quiet. The storm outside crackles; lightning flashes through the open patio doors. No lamps. No music. Just rain and silence.

I step out onto the balcony. He follows. Of course he does. Maybe he thinks I’m a figment of his imagination. He stumbles, breath ragged. His hand grips the railing. His mouth opens. I don’t let him speak.

I press both palms to his chest and shove. He doesn’t scream. The thud when he hits the pavement is dull. Final. I walk back inside. Down the stairs. Out the front door.

The rain soaks me in seconds, plastering clothes to my skin. But I don’t run. I don’t look back. I walk home. Excited to see what comes next.

This game is so fun.
