1. Sage Richards #3
I was quiet as possible, mostly because I wasn’t sure what I would do yet.
That was until I saw the glow of a light on my right and looked over to see a room filled with championship trophies and awards that Jaylen had accumulated over the years.
Some of them were even from before we met.
That low-down, lying son of a bitch was supposedly remodeling his man cave when he moved his memorabilia out a few months ago.
While I was under the impression that his most prized possessions were in storage, he was moving them into the house he apparently shared with another woman.
The air in the room was cool against the light sheen of sweat glistening on my face, but it wasn’t enough to temper my mood.
I swung the poker, cracking the glass on his framed college jersey and sent it crashing to the floor.
The next swing of my weapon broke a trophy case, causing the trophies and game day basketballs inside to tumble to the floor.
“You fucking liar! I gave up everything for you. You told me we were building a future, and now you’re building a future with somebody else!” I shouted as I continued to swing my weapon of choice.
I hit the trophy case again just to make sure that it was no longer standing, before moving over to the gigantic TV. I swung and swung until I was tired and plopped down in the huge recliner. My chest heaved as I tried to figure out how the hell I got here in the first place.
“What the hell is going on? Get the fuck out!” Rebecca screamed.
I whipped around to see her standing at the door looking like she was about to shit herself.
“I’m not here for you. I suggest you go get Jaylen right the fuck now,” I urged, pointing with the poker.
“You’re so miserable and pathetic. What part of he doesn’t want you anymore don’t you understand?”
“Girl,” I said, wielding the fire poker like I would hit her.
Even if she weren’t pregnant, I would never take my anger out on the other woman. Hell, I would have never thought I would do this shit in the first place, but circumstances were extenuating as hell.
“Jaylen!” she yelled.
I nodded. “Yeah, you better call his ass.”
“No, you know what? I’m calling the cops!”
“You like making calls, but you better get your man in here, too, while you’re at it. Don’t make me have to keep looking for his lying ass. Because I will work my way through this muthafucka until I find that coward-ass bitch. You do notice how he didn’t run out here to make sure you were safe.”
“You’re insane. No wonder he left you,” she retorted before scurrying off down the hall.
About a minute passed before she showed back up at the door carrying a bat.
“You think that’s supposed to scare me? Girl, put that shit down before I forget you’re pregnant and make you use it.
I know you don’t know me well, so I’m not going to take this shit personally.
A word of advice, though: I don’t know whatever possessed you to use my phone number, but don’t you ever in your fucking life disrespect me like that again. ”
“You think I care enough about you to call you? The only reason I finally did it is because Jaylen said you refused to accept that it was over. Look at yourself. You’re breaking into someone’s home and causing all this property damage just because a man doesn’t want you anymore.
You’re calling all day and night while Jaylen isn’t even thinking about you. ”
“Jaylen hasn’t told me a damn thing. Why am I still talking to you? Jaylen, get your weak ass in here! You got your woman calling me instead of being a man and talking to me yourself. I gave you ten fucking years. The least you could give me is an explanation.”
“Sage?” I heard Jaylen’s voice before he came into the light, rubbing his eyes. There was no way he had slept through all that commotion.
“Is this really what we’re doing?” I asked him, lifting my brows as I moved closer to the door.
“What are you doing here? How did you even get to this girl’s house?”
“Boy, you’re asking the wrong fucking questions.
She’s been calling and texting me pictures of y’all and your beautiful home half the night.
You didn’t have the decency to tell me you moved out.
You put your assistant up to it. You really are a bitch-ass punk like my daddy said.
Boy, I should—” I said, rearing back with that poker, ready to take his head off.
The sound of someone pounding on the door made Rebecca scurry from in front of Jaylen. He stood there looking at me with sad puppy eyes, ready to spew a bunch of lies.
“Sage, baby, come on. You know I wouldn’t do nothing to fuck you over. I was drinking and fell asleep over here. Rebecca is just tripping because you’re at her house.”
See, I knew I should have just beheaded him when I had the chance. I hated it when someone tried to play with my intelligence.
“Let me take one guess who paid for this place. We’re losing our fucking house, and you’re over here playing house with another woman? I caught your ass red-handed, and you still got the nerve to lie. Is that how you treat your son and the woman you’ve been dragging along for ten years.”
“Losing the house? What the hell are you talking about, Sage?” he asked, sounding convincingly confused for once.
“There she is. This woman broke into our house!” Rebecca yelled and pointed at me as two uniformed police officers rushed me.
The fire poker finally dropped from my hand as I accepted defeat. For the second time, in a matter of minutes I asked myself how the hell did I get here.
