SARAH

I stretched, feeling deliciously sore. I yawned. I’d fallen asleep after the best sex I’d ever had. I blushed, remembering how wanton I’d acted.

So what? He’s my husband, after all. But maybe not so wild every time. I can’t limp around the house and sleep off sex every single time.

I giggled to myself. Doran had left the room, leaving me to sleep. I could hear him talking and the sound of Laura babbling back as he pottered about in the kitchen.

“Bob, what time is it?”

“It’s twelve-thirty,” came the reply and I shot upright.

I’d slept away the rest of the morning and left Doran to mind the baby and prepare lunch for him and our guests!

” I hurriedly redressed, stopping to put on a clean pair of panties first. Padding into the room, I found Doran making sandwiches and the baby happily munching on a piece of bread spread with something.

“What’s that on her bread?” I asked, thumbing at her.

“A ground meat paste for babies. The jar said it was chicken.”

“Ah.” I reached up on tippy toes to kiss his cheek.

“Thanks for letting me sleep in,” I said, playing it nonchalant. I didn’t want things to become awkward now. This was our new normal, and I just wanted to keep moving forward.

Especially so I can get me some more of that big D.

I knew rationally it wasn’t all about the size, but damn, he really knew how to use it and his tongue; oh my lord, his tongue had played me like a maestro.

Surely as we got to know each other’s bodies more, the sex could only get better and better.

We’d end up setting the sheets on fire if we weren’t careful.

The thought made me giggle as I accepted a sandwich from him.

Dragonii. Fire.

His nose twitched the tiniest bit, and I could tell he could smell what I was thinking.

“You are alright?”

“Yep. Been a while and you’re bigger than my toys, so I’m a little sore, but in a very good way.” I waggled my eyebrows at him playfully to let him know I meant every word.

He looked reassured. “Good. I feared I was too rough.”

“Well, we can’t do that all the time, or I’ll get too sore, not to mention tired, to do anything, but that was insanely hot. Like, almost set the sheets on fire hot.”

A small smile tugged at the corners of his mouth. “I see.” He leaned down to kiss my forehead. “And your neck?”

“A teeny weeny bit tender. You weren’t kidding about that venom stuff. That shit made me fly. Ten out of ten, would recommend.” I took a bite out of my sandwich. It was egg salad, perfectly made. “This is good. You make it yourself?”

He nodded, looking pleased. “I asked Bob what humans liked to eat on sandwiches and asked if it included eggs. He coached me through the recipe, and then we flash chilled it.”

“Well, it’s perfect.”

Loud knocking rang out through the house.

Doarn startled, a guilty look on his face. “I best get that! I forgot to unlock the front door!”

I burst out laughing at that. Laura looked startled, then giggled too.

“Yeah, Dor-Dor is funny, yeah?”

“Dor-dor! Fuh!” she giggled some more.

“There’s our princess! Daddy’s home and look, I brought Pata with me!” Darren cooed as he and Tarek clattered into the kitchen.

“If you two sit down, I’ll get you your sandwiches,” I offered.

“Sounds good,” came the reply.

“I’ve got it. You enjoy your lunch,” Doran said, coming in behind them. He quickly took out two small plates and placed two sandwiches each on them. “Here you are. What would you like to drink?”

“Just water for me,” Tarek answered. “I’m parched. We had to chase after an escaped hop- a-long.”

“Did you catch it?” I asked.

“No,” Darren laughed. “The little booger got clean away. He was determined he wasn’t going to get back into that crate.”

“Oh? He escaped while being transported, and not from his pen, then?” Doran asked, handing Tarek a glass of chilled water.

“Yup. Being sent up to a freighter who wanted to sell them as exotic pets. The little fellow had opinions on that, it seemed.”

I giggled.

“I’ll take water too, thanks.”

Doran complied.

“So what you’re saying is, your first full day on the job and you’ve already had a jailbreak,” I teased.

Both males laughed.

“I reckon we did,” Darren chuckled. “I gotta ask, though, why was the door locked? You do know Laura can’t do the same thing on her own, right?’

I blushed. “Oh, that, um…”

Tarek excused me from further embarrassment.

“I believe they were otherwise occupied for a short while.” He tipped his head to my neck.

“Oh! Um, well. Yes. That makes sense. Congratulations!” He touched the side of his own neck. “We, ah, did that back on the ship. That venom. Wowsers, am I right?” Aaaannnd I’ll shut up now.”

I couldn’t help it. His awkwardness was cute. “You’re not kidding! Boom chicka wow wow!” I fanned myself.

Both of our mates preened.

“Excuse me, guys, but I was asked to inform you that the boys are on their way home, and Nick wishes to discuss bicycles with you.”

Darren and I looked at each other, befuddled by this announcement.

“Bikes? They don’t have any bikes.”

I shrugged. “My kids neither. Perhaps his do, and they had a squabble over who got to ride?”

His shoulders slumped. “Maybe.”

We ate in silence after that.
