Chapter 3
My mouth said one thing, but my heart damn near fell out of my chest when I spotted a guy and his gun in my face when I came out of the bathroom.
There wasn’t supposed to be anyone here but Sparrow and me. That was the downside of having a cat as opposed to a dog. If I had a dog, he would have barked at the intruder or maybe bitten him. Instead, I had a cat who probably hid the minute the door opened.
I couldn’t address him in just a towel, so I quickly threw some clothes on in the closet.
When I came back out, he was sitting on the edge of the bed. Thankfully, he’d put his gun away but wore a mean ass scowl on his face.
“Sweetheart, what are you doing in my cabin?” He licked his full pink lips as he took in my body.
The silk pajama short set was the first thing I grabbed to put on. It had buttons on the front, and the top two were open. The shorts were very short, but none of my ass was out.
“For your information, sir, this is my cabin that I have booked for the weekend,” I told him with my hand on my hip.
“You got a smart-ass mouth, you know that?” My breath stalled in my throat when he stood up. He towered over me as a few of his locs fell forward. The black skull cap he wore kept them from moving too much.
Sultry, dark brown eyes looked down at me. “You act like you need to get fucked.”
I choked on the spit in my mouth. He got a kick out of it because he laughed and backed away.
“Well, that’s where you are wrong. I get fucked very well all of the time.” I lied through my damn teeth.
“Something tells me you are lying.” He tapped his chin with his index finger. “But you still ain’t answering why you are in my cabin.”
“I already told you.”
I wasn’t sure how he’d even gotten in, because I was certain I locked the door. I didn’t want to rush him to get out, because he did have a gun. Something in his eyes told me he wouldn’t use it on me, though. I probably was crazy for thinking that.
He stroked his beard as he stared at me. I shifted from right to left because he made me nervous.
“Clearly, there has been some type of misunderstanding. How about you put some clothes on, and we’ll go to the front desk to get this situated. Or you can leave that on. Either works for me.” He winked as he adjusted himself like I wasn’t standing there.
From the slight motion, I could tell he was working with something.
A big dick didn’t mean anything, because Daniel had a nice size that he didn’t know how to use.
Something about goldie locs made me think he could put it down.
I didn’t know his name, and his locs were more of a light brown color than gold, but that was the first thing that popped into my head.
He cleared his throat. “What’s it going to be, sweetheart? It’s kind of cold out there for those little ass shorts.” His eyes zeroed in on my thighs, and he licked his lips again.
I watched his tongue roll from one side to the other. “Right.” I quickly went into the closet to put some clothes on.
When I came out in sweatpants and a hoodie, he looked at me again and had this strange look in his eyes. I wondered what crossed his mind, but I didn’t ask.
“Let’s get this figured out,” I told him as I grabbed my coat.
We left the cabin and made the quick walk to the rental office. I walked ahead of him, and I could feel his eyes on my ass the whole time.
“Hello, Maranda. I’m in cabin two, and for some reason, this guy seems to think it’s his cabin.” I looked over at him, and he had his eyes trained on me.
In the brighter light, I could see how damn good he looked.
He pulled his hat back, and I noticed his roots were a little darker than the ends.
His locs came a little past his shoulders.
He had a mustache that connected to a full beard.
His thick eyebrows furrowed as he looked between Maranda and me.
“I’m sorry about that. Let me see what happened.” She typed a few things on the computer. “Uh-oh.”
Goldie stepped forward. “Uh-oh. Uh-oh, what?”
Maranda looked down again and typed something else. I chewed the corner of my lip because I didn’t like the look on her face when she looked back up at us.
“So, it looks like the cabin was double-booked.”
“Double-booked!” Goldie and I yelled at the same time.
“I’m sorry. Let me see if I can find another one.
” She went back to typing on her computer again, and my nerves were shot.
I hoped she could find another cabin. It took her all of sixty damn seconds to look at us again with disappointment on her face.
“It looks like there are no more vacancies, and with the impending storm, there probably aren’t any vacancies for miles. ”
I could feel my heart thumping in my ears.
A storm and no vacancies meant I would probably have to share the cabin with Goldie.
He was nice to look at, but he could have been some type of panty sniffer or something.
People did weird stuff. The more I thought about it, the more it made sense that something was wrong with him.
He should have been out with his girlfriend or something because he looked too good not to have someone who didn’t play about him.
“Maranda, is it?” he asked from the side of me. Maranda nodded. “I understand that you don’t have anything else, but I don’t understand how you managed to book two different people in the same room.”
“Mr. Nelson, I can assure you that it was a mistake, and you both will be compensated for your troubles. I can do a free weekend for each of you at a later date.”
A free weekend didn’t sound bad, but that wouldn’t help the problem that we faced.
“That’s great and all, but that doesn’t help anything right now.” He took the words right out of my mouth.
Maranda was on her computer again, but I knew nothing would change. I could pack my shit and head back home before the storm came, but I paid my money for a relaxing weekend. Maybe this Mr. Nelson person could go wherever he came from. I was there first, so I shouldn’t have to be the one to leave.
“I tried to find something else, but unfortunately, I can’t. I know it’s only one bed, so I can send up a rollaway bed.
Mr. Nelson scoffed. “I didn’t pay to sleep on a bed with cheap ass wheels. I came here for a relaxing weekend and to do some hunting.” His eyes cut over to me. “And now you are telling me I have to share a room with a stranger.”
He acted like it was a big deal, when I was the one who should have been scared. Why did he have to say hunting like that, then look at me? Oh, God. He probably planned on skinning me alive.
“Again, I’m so sorry. I don’t advise you to leave the grounds, because the snow comes quickly and sticks pretty fast. I wouldn’t want either of you to get stuck.”
“We’ll make it work, Maranda.” He winked at her, and she had the nerve to blush.
I rolled my eyes and stomped away from the desk. Lord, don’t let me get killed when I was just trying to have a relaxing weekend.
