Chapter 22 #2

Only this time, they’d been tailing some Souls. “Think those motherfuckers got ‘em?” His blood pressure was now spiking and his vision was getting that red haze, and he was doing his best not to grind his teeth down to the roots.

Did they go to that goddamn male stripper shit despite him telling Lyric no?

“I don’t know. I mean, it sounded like they were in Bri’s car, so unlike when they were on the club run, there’d be no way to tie them to the DAMC.”

Unless they ran their fucking mouths. With Avery in the car, that was a real threat. “That we fuckin’ know of. God-fuckin-damnit!”

“I’ll keep trying to ping their phones. In the meantime—”

“Keep tryin’. Lemme know the second you get a location. Gonna head over to the apartment to check to make sure they ain’t there. They ain’t, gonna let you know.”

“Do you want Reaper to meet you at the clubhouse?”

“Yeah, send T-Bone, Grim, and Ghost, too.”

“I’ll send whoever I can find. Hell, they might already be there or they could be back home on the farm.”

“Don’t waste any fuckin’ time waitin’ for me to check the apartment, just send whoever you got.”

“You got it, cuz.” She hung up.

As he rushed back into the strip club, he tried calling Lyric. It went right to voicemail.

He called Avery, same thing. He tried Bri next. Voicemail.

For fuck’s sake!

He needed to grab his sled from out back, but on his way, Rage yelled out to Rooster to tell him that he had to go and the assistant manager needed to take over for the rest of the night.

He didn’t even wait for Rooster’s response, he just kept moving. If the Souls had the women, he had no fucking time to waste.

He slammed the back door’s crash bar with both hands and once again headed out into the night.

With the way he was cranking on the throttle, Rage made it to the pawn shop in record time.

Lyric’s cage wasn’t the only one parked at the bottom of the stairs leading up to their apartment. Avery’s cage was parked where it normally was when she worked at the pawn shop. However, Bri’s cage was gone, so Vi had been right about whose vehicle they’d taken.

He jogged up the steps, pounded on the door, then tried to open it.

Locked.

He immediately turned, trotted back down the metal staircase, and spotted Nix walking toward his sled parked next to Avery’s ride in one of the pawn shop’s employee spots.

“Know where your sister is?”

“Nope.”

“How ‘bout Avery?”

A frown creased his brow. “Why the fuck would I know where Avery is?”

“‘Cause you work together.” Like that had to be said? “Where’s Bri?”

“She left early, stickin’ me with closin’ the shop, and haven’t seen her since.”

“For fuck’s sake.”

Nix shook his head. “Can’t wait for the dispensary to open so I—Hold up. What the fuck’s goin’ on? Why you lookin’ for them?”

“Just tryin’ to find out where they are. They weren’t supposed to go anywhere.”

Nix’s head jerked back. “Why not?”

“‘Cause…” Rage growled and shook his head. That shit didn’t matter at this point. “Vi called me, said they were following some Souls.”

“Why the fuck would they follow Souls?”

“No fuckin’ clue.” He wasn’t even sure any of the women, besides Violet and Indigo, knew how they planned on dealing with the Pittsburgh Mafia, so they’d have no reason to follow them. “Need you to stick here and if they show up, call me.”

“Here? Don’t wanna—”

Rage went over to his Harley, throwing a leg over. “Nix! Stay here and lemme know if your sister shows the fuck up!” he barked. He hit the ignition button. “Headin’ to the clubhouse.”

“But—”

Whatever Nix said next was drowned out by Rage revving his engine and taking the fuck off toward Church.

“This ain’t a false alarm this time. They are fuckin’ missin’. Vi can’t ping their goddamn phones.”

“Shit.” Zeke dropped his head and squeezed his forehead. “Why the fuck were they followin’ the Souls?”

“Vi said they were out and about and encountered them on their way home,” Reaper informed everyone else in that room, sounding a fuck of a lot calmer than Rage.

Luckily, Zeke had already been at Church for whatever reason. Reaper, Grim, and Ghost rolled in on their sleds seconds after Rage.

Now they were in an impromptu meeting to figure out their next steps since they didn’t have an exact location for the women. They could be anywhere by now. The only thing Vi knew for sure was they’d been heading north on Fisher Road between The Pink Pearl and Shadow Valley.

That was a damn lonely stretch of country road, especially at night. But it was where they could start the search and look for any clues.

“But why the fuck were they followin’ them?” Zeke asked. “Did they want revenge after those assholes crashed into the Furry Angels?”

“No,” Reaper answered. “Somehow they knew our team is collecting data on the drug runs and they were providing it.”

“How the fuck did they know ’bout that?” Rage roared, slamming a hand on the table. “Who the fuck told them to do that shit?”

Grim shrugged. “They’re women. ’Nough said.”

“They had to have heard it somewhere,” Ghost said next.

“Does it fuckin’ matter at this point?” Zeke asked. “There’s only one goddamn thing that matters right now and that ain’t it.”

He was right. The only thing that mattered at that time was finding the damn women. Not only finding them, but finding them unharmed. They could deal with those fucking Souls later.

The red haze had returned, not only clouding his vision, but his thoughts as well. His insides were tight and twisting like a tornado.

“Why the fuck are we still sittin’ here?” he roared. “We gotta find them!”

When he surged to his feet, he took the table with him, flipping it onto its side and causing everyone to slide their chairs backward.

“Jesus.”

“Holy fuck!”

“Well, fuck. That might be a first.”

He had no idea who was saying what and he couldn’t give a fuck. “Let’s go! We can start at that fuckin’ Pink Pearl if we gotta and work our way north.” he shouted. “Ain’t wastin’ any more fuckin’ time.”

Reaper rose to his feet. “Let’s go, brother.” Grim and Ghost quickly followed.

Chaos announced, “I’m goin’ too.”

“Gonna fuckin’ kill all of those motherfuckers, every fuckin’ single one, with my bare hands,” Rage snarled.

“No, you won’t,” Reaper said quietly. “That’ll just fuck the club up one side and down the other.”

“They gotta pay for fuckin’ with us. Again.”

“They will, brother,” Reaper assured him. “We’re working on that. Needs time and patience if you want it done right.”

“Don’t got time and patience when they’re fuckin’ with our women.”

“Understood. Let’s go find your women.”
