Chapter 44

ZOE

Twelve weeks later…

Would I be bragging if I said my magic saved an entire species from a devastating war? Maybe, but it’s also true. When Seb killed Roman, he forced the Saint’s Order underground. Dragons have returned to civilian life, but there hasn’t been a single act of violence since.

Seb and I moved out of the safe house and into his Holmby Hills estate. Although we’re already mated, he took Beyoncé’s advice and put a ring on it. We’re planning a wedding in Italy next year.

“One more time, Zoe,” Crew says over the speaker in the recording studio. “It’s brilliant, but I think you can take it to the next level.”

He’s right. It’s the end of the day, and I’m getting tired.

But then Seb walks in and stands behind Crew, our eyes locking through the glass.

And this time when I sing, that golden edge returns, and it almost feels like I’m ascending.

This time, when I reach the bridge, goose bumps march across my skin.

“…Take me away

On wings of gold

Sing to me of

A world unknown

I’ve been lost so long

my skin’s grown cold

But lend me your fire

watch our dreams unfold.”

Tears run down Crew’s cheeks. We finish recording, and he just shakes his head. “That’s it for the day, Zoe. Brilliant work.”

I’m beaming as I set down my guitar and rush out the door, straight into Seb’s arms. “This album is going to blow the roof off the charts,” he says, swinging me off my feet.

“Let’s not count our sales before they’ve hatched,” I say through a huge smile, but in fact, I feel it coming like a blessing on the wind. This is my best work, and I have to believe people will feel that when they hear my voice.

He says his goodbyes to Crew and the rest of the team and ushers me out into the hall and toward the parking lot, where William is waiting to drive us home.

“It’s late. Do you want to grab some dinner to celebrate?”

We slide into the back seat, and I run my hand along his thigh, the muscle flexing under his tailored slacks. “I thought you could make us something?”

“You know I’m only good for one thing.”

“I’m eating what you’re fixing.”

The divider rises between us and William. I glance down to find Seb’s finger on the button, and he raises an eyebrow.

“Are you cooking up something right now, Mr. York?”

“Only if you’re hungry,” he says playfully.

In answer, I throw a leg over him and straddle his lap.

I moan as we fit together, his hard length rubbing against me in just the right place.

I reach between us and undo his fly, springing his massive erection from its prison.

It’s been weeks of this, of not getting enough of each other, of wanting only more.

Seb promises it will ease up eventually, but for now, it’s all I can think about.

“Chocolate chip or strawberry?”

“You’re thinking small again, Seb. Why not both?” I say into his mouth. He pushes my skirt up above my hips and moves the crotch of my panties aside. I’m just glad he doesn’t rip them off me. “As long as there’s plenty of whipped cream.”

He enters me in one hard thrust. “Anything you want.”

I lose myself to sensation as I ride my dragon all the way home, showing him with my body what I know in my heart.

I have everything I’ve ever wanted.

And the way he kisses me, I know he does too.
