Epilogue

Mori’s Journal

Moonscale London

Era left yesterday to move to the GGB. It was a little later than he planned but with the school not opening for another month, he left in plenty of time.

Last night, Alcaster the Cat walked through his death door and I finally had time to process the fact my true-mate was in a battle.

It filled me with rage like no other. So, for the first time in a while, I went to visit Dern.

I didn’t go for advice or to ask him to help me take care of the mercenary bear group, but because I needed a friend who knew the truth about my true-mate and my life.

I still wrote Othoni and Teddy long letters and they wrote back but I hadn’t even told them what I knew.

I didn’t have to tell Dern. He knew already.

So, we drank tea and played a game of Scrabble and talked about a new writer he was watching because from reading his drafts through his scrying bowl he thought he might actually be decent at his craft.

That was a high compliment coming from Dern.

With Caster gone our house feels small and empty.

I didn’t realize how used to having him and Era next door I was.

My wolf and I just hope, whoever moves in next is as quiet as Era was for the most part.

I hope they don’t move anyone talkative in because I’m looking for something in the quiet even if I don’t know what it is yet.

I’ve taken to meditating twice a day and only letting myself check my mate’s online stuff every Wednesday evening for twenty minutes.

I eat a pint of rocky road ice cream and scroll to my heart’s content.

Then, I turn it off and get back to trying to find my center.

Maybe I can’t find it without him. But that sounds like such bullshit, doesn’t it?

Plenty of people live their whole lives without ever meeting their true-mates and turn out just fine.

Sometimes I sit and think for hours, just petting Snowy and wondering what dead people do over there. We know what some of them do but that’s more inside the in between. What happens in the places that living people can’t go or remember? Are our pets there?

I think they are. Well, at least for a while.

I know that Caster plans on being reborn to find Era again but neither of us knew how long that might take.

I hope however long it takes that they end up back together.

I hope Era finds his mate in the GGB and they have the life that makes them the happiest.

Mostly, these days, I just hope dead people stay dead and don’t come back to haunt us all again.
