Epilogue
“What do you mean the contest was cancelled?” Cooper demanded, waving his rolled-up design at the girl behind the desk. “Do you have any idea how long I worked on this? It can’t just be for nothing.”
“I’m sorry, sir. I was just told that the stadium repairs have been postponed. They found some ruins underground when they started cleaning up,” the girl said. “I don’t know any of the details, only that everything has been postponed until the scientists are done clearing the sight.”
“Is there someone else I can talk to? I mean, that can’t shut it down forever, that’s our only stadium,” he said, looking around the office. “There must be someone in charge around here.”
“I don’t know…” The girl behind the desk looked around, and then he heard footsteps behind him. “Oh, good. Here’s Dr. Warner, maybe she can help. She’s in charge of the dig.”
He turned to find a very pretty blonde woman walking in the door. Her blue eyes took him in with one quick sweep, and a strange feeling spread through him. It was quickly followed by a wave of attraction when she smiled at him, and he found himself backing away in surprise.
“Can I help you?” she asked, her voice like honey. “Is there something wrong?”
“He wants to know when the design contest for the new stadium will start again,” the girl behind the desk said. “I tried to explain to him that we don’t have anything to do with it, but he’s not listening.”
“Oh, I see,” she said, then smiled at him. I’m sorry, but I really don’t know any more than Marie does. I wish I could be more helpful.”
“Oh, that’s okay,” he said, smiling back at her, the contest long forgotten. “It wasn’t really that big of a deal. Tell me more about what you’re doing here.”
“I’m sure it would bore you to death,” the woman said, looking a little nervous. “And I’m afraid I have a meeting in five minutes, but good luck to you.”
I hope you enjoyed the book!
